  1. Sunburst isn't a colour, just a default setting
  2. I believe the choices are Parallel / Single / OMG (the latter being a tinkered-with version of series)
  3. When and why did Yamaha get the idea that more we want to spend on a bass, the less interest we will have in nice colours? Most interesting colour available per model: 424 — Red 1024 — Caramel Brown (sombre trans red) 2024 — White 234 — Raspberry Red 434 — Teal 734 — Translucent Matte Black P34 — Midnight Blue
  4. Andy Rourke playing a P? Go on then
  5. Exactly the kind of demo most useful to me
  6. Found the right paint for refinishing a boring natural BB2024x edit: just remembered – there was no natural 2024x .... but there was a 'vintage sunburst' in need of covering up
  7. This gives us a chance to make requests..... Mine would be: your three favourite settings .... first demoed all playing the same music .... then demoed each playing something the setting suits best.
  8. Ideally, we want the undervalued 424/5s to keep drifting up in price, and the slightlysteep 2024/5s to carry on slipping down ... until the upgrade only costs another fiver or so ... 😬
  9. A front man should find being both Joey and Johnny Ramone simultaneously an exhilarating experience
  10. Comparing the studio albums and live recordings of most bands like these makes me feel that more Jimmy Pages should have done what Johnny Marr eventually did and found themselves Craig Gannons. (In Pete Townsend's case, he should have found himself a Johnny Marr)
  11. For £300, I was delighted to get exactly the model I wanted in excellent condition strung with new and good quality strings, at the exact moment I wanted it, delivered. Especially as a few months earlier I had paid almost twice that for a bass that didn't suit me, that needed setting up and which came strung with twangy Daddarios that did the poor thing no good at all. Amongst the huge pile of money I've pushed in a bassward direction in that 12 months, that £300 stands clear as the only sensible, restrained bit. Once I had got my Matt Freeman up to a level where I am just about as pleased with it as I am with the 424, I had spent £600. No regrets, but still, it makes the 424 look an absolute bargain.
  12. The £300 I paid on 30 Dec 2020 for a mint 424 was felt to be a bit steep.
  13. With a pick, the Vintage '62 pickup of the reissue seems slow to sound, dulls the crispness of the attack. The CS '57 on the postmodern seemed much better, as did the Aguilar on the Maruszczyk. For my taste, the fatness of the tone of Quarterpounder seems to come at the expense of clarity, doesn't seem to capture the resonance cleanly. The 1968 seemed perfect! (I was looking forward to seeing how much those thoughts changed when hearing them played unmuted fingerstyle, but the Steve Harris line was a bit too frenetic for that 😅 )
  14. If bashers want HRB to be a bashee, locating them rather more north and east of Somerset would help attract his attention (The problem with that would be the risk of attracting my attention, too)
  15. Knew I had seen it before https://www.talkbass.com/threads/g-l-custom-shop-pricing.1325846/page-3#post-25447654
  16. I don't get non-euclidian geometry.
  17. As a couple of things about Sunbeams make them Not My Kind Of Thing, so this was good to read
  18. [...blah blah blah...] So now I'm feeling curious, and would like to hear who else has enjoyed Sunbeams, on which instruments, playing what style?
  19. If that's been made for who I think it was made for, a guy on TB and bassesbyleo called bdgotoh, he's not short of opportunities for appreciating the L2k – huuuuge collection of G&Ls.
  20. I thought the coming-sooner-or-later MFD Jazzes were to be newly-designed single-coil pickups, not just a pair of L-2000 humbuckers?
  21. Since Reverb take a slice, The Bass Gallery prices on Reverb are all higher than on their own website
  22. It wasn't considered OK in the 80s and 90s, its just that the ____s don't get a free pass to be ____s without consequences anymore. Poor ____s 😢
