4-string-thing

I'd like to see my own signature bass, the 4-string-thing 4-string-thing! It would be a Squier butterscotch CV 50's P with a neck from the Squier CV Tele Bass.

The case is a pretty heavy duty wooden box, already carpet covered with a handle and corners fitted. It is also the exact same width (when on it's side) as the Minimark, so looks the part. Its a bit of an experiment, which is why I'm thinking about cost!

I already have a pair of 15" 8ohm subs that are small, fairly light and I did think about using one of them, but I fancy trying something a bit different. A 4x6 stacked vertically would be unusual!

I like Eminence too Lozz, I've had my Acoustic rig for over 30 years with Eminence drivers, and when I swapped them, I used Eminence Alpha 15's. I like the warm, old school sound, so perhaps they would be a better choice! At the end of the day, its just a small extension cab to get the full 250w from the Minimark and to raise it off the floor a bit.

Yes, it needs to be 8ohms and it looks like nobody does a 6" 16ohm driver! Am I correct in thinking that 2 x 4ohms in series will only have half the power handling of 2 x 16ohms in parallel? (assuming they are all rated the same)

Yes, I did think about moving the baffle and rear panel in a bit to reduce the volume to match the Minimark. Loz, would my knackered old ears really be able to tell the difference if I used Eminence drivers instead? Half the cost, 4ohms and available now, no 45 day wait like there is with the B&C's.

The box isn't much bigger than the combo, just a few inches more height and depth. £90 each is not cheap, is it? But I suppose mixing brands isn't a good idea?

I’m wondering if this is a bad idea, the combo has 2x6” drivers, so another 2 in a cab that stacks 4 vertically is the plan. If so, does anybody know where I can get another pair of drivers the same as the ones in the Minimark? Or an alternative? Geoff did point out that he'd do[u] feet [/u]in the same way, of course, this means gaining access to the inside of the cab, but its probably worth the effort!

Guitarist 1's amp failed after half an hour, that's 30 minutes of HOME USE after purchase, replacement lasted a little bit longer. Amp 3 lasted a while before he sold it. Guitarist 2's amp packed up at first rehearsal, replacement is still in use as far as I know. Why people buy them, I'll never know. Funny thing is, when I was playing with hem, they were always telling me I needed a new amp. My reply was "my amp's 30 years old, yours struggle to last 30 minutes"

I had a pair of very old, useless, Selmer cabs with Goodmans drivers in them, sold 'em on fleabay for £120 ..... Lord knows why he wanted 'em, but he was more than happy to take them off my hands. I've got a couple of small wedges with Celestion guitar drivers in them from the early 70's too somewhere, they'll be going on there at some point.

Bought a Markbass minimark from Pete a couple of days ago, lovely bloke and a nice cup of tea on arrival! Would buy with confidence from him anytime!

I've used a Markbass rig before and did like the sound, although it was a much bigger rig. I was thinking along the lines of the Phil Jones Briefcase or Markbass micro to be honest. I also like the idea of a promethean or clone. I've used the same rig for over 30 years, so don't actually know much about modern amps!

There's a couple of small combo's in the for sale section that I'm keeping a eye on and was after some opinions. I've just been offered a role in the backing band for a folky singer/acoustic guitarist and I feel a new amp may be in order! It looks like I'll be playing a mixture of electric and double bass, so if I have to transport an upright, an electric and a rig, the rig is gonna have to b a lot smaller than my current stuff! So, just how good are these micro combo's with 5"or 6" drivers and is 100 or 150w loud enough for an acoustic (amplified) band? I've recently sold my house and got a new job, so money isn't really an object, but wouldn't want to spend any more than around £600.... Go on, recommend me an amp!

I saw Wilko when I was 15 or 16, it was 1978 or 79..... It remains one of the best gigs I've ever seen, and I've seen a few!

I have a Brunswick baritone uke, its tuned the same as the top four strings of a guitar, so chords are quite easy!

Probably the CDR sent to me by John Otway for my 40th birthday. John Otway and Wild Willy Barrett live at the roundhouse 1977. Copied and signed by the man himself.... If I ever get to meet Wild Willy, I'll be asking him to sign it too (along with my vinyl copy of their first album, also signed by Otway about 25 years ago)
