  1. It may not be classic Motorhead, but it certainly won't be the worst thing you'll see from Glastonbury this weekend!
  2. The Stagg GAS-4.2 is a good buy on ebay, works great with my Markbass CMD121 and is less than half the price of those two at about £15!
  3. Great stuff, I'll be buying/sharing.... I once supported Basil Brush at the Loughborough Christmas Lights switch on.... Biggest gig I've ever done, but I came away a little disappointed after finding out he's not a real fox!
  4. Some more... The theme from White Horses. The soundtracks from Grizzly Man by Richard Thompson and Pretty much anything from The Wicker Man soundtrack, except the one they sing whilst dancing around the maypole, that's bobbins!
  5. It was quite tempting to stop and glare at the drummer, as it was literally the first bar of the first song, so I guess a we could have probably called it a false start and laughed it off. There were little mistakes here and there, but I guess there always will be, the best way to get good as a band, is to do more gigs I guess...
  6. Our guitarist uses a 12 string for a couple of songs, so we play them 3rd and 4th in the set so his guitar gets changed just twice. I use the opportunity to engage with the audience, and captivate them with my witty banter....
  7. Sorry to resurrect this thread, but as it happens, I needn't have worried after all.... The gig went well, a couple of mistakes (amazingly it was the drummer who made the only glaring cock up) And reaction was good. My new lightweight Markbass rig sounded awesome and I can't wait to do it again! I feel that I now actually WANT to do gigs! Not just feel that I should do them...
  8. Prime Mover or Backseat Education by Zodiac Mindwarp & The Love Reaction, both great quirky rock tunes!
  9. This! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgRdR4xGbtY Or this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLgNPYw9QMw
  10. My Harley Benton, bought for £60, head re-shaped for £45, ashtrays £25! [sharedmedia=core:attachments:165037]
  11. Played an outdoor gig yesterday with my CMD121 and a brand new NY121 I got from Bass Direct on Friday (completely untried) Easy to transport, carried them both to the stage with my bass on my back (about 300 yards from the car) one trip, piece of cake. Sounded awesome, gain and output both at 11 o clock, had to turn down at one point as I couldn't hear the guitarist! I'm a convert...
  12. It's got to be a combination of everything you use to produce the music you're playing hasn't it? Having said that though, I've recently changed almost everything in my set up, gone from a 70's Fender P to a Harley Benton 50's P. A big 80's Acoustic rig with 15" cabs to a small new Markbass rig with 12" speakers and you know what, it still sounds like me.... All the right notes, sometimes, in the wrong order...
  13. Almost a YOB bass for me, but as Ken Bruce would no doubt say..... One year out!!!! Still, looks gorgeous!
  14. I have a Modern Player Jazz bass that I took in a trade for sale. It's a really nice bass, just not for me sadly. It's a passive in Arctic White and in almost mint condition save for a little chip in the finish on the rear of the headstock. Lovely slim neck, low action and plays, looks and sounds like a dream. I would prefer collection from NW Leics, but I could package up if you wanted to arrange a courier. As I said, I took it in a trade because I'd been gassing for a Jazz, but after a couple of weeks I've decided I prefer a P Bass after all.... As for trades, I'm looking for a Markbass cab, a NY121 Ideally, or a TRV 1x12 at a push....
  15. To be fair, they reckoned it wasn't the design of the amps, just the cheap valves they came fitted with and once they were changed the amps were ok...
  16. I was in a spoof hair-metal band a few years ago, both guitarists used Blackstar 200w half stacks. Well, they did between trips back to the shop.... One lasted 5 minutes at it's first rehearsal, another about 20! After 5 replacements between them they finally got two that worked. I don't know if they lasted very long as I left the band for the sake of my hearing.
  17. Sold my Ashdown practice combo to Peter, top man!
  18. Predictably, another Precision.... This one has an S serial number making it a 77 or 78. I've owned it since 1979. I don't play it much nowdays, but will probably never sell it.
  19. Leave the alcohol til after the sessions are finished. I once read that a well known producer (I've forgotten who) used to have a sign on the studio wall that read "Boring people make boring records, and there is nothing more boring than someone who's drunk" And as someone who used to run a small demo studio, there is nothing worse than watching people waste time and money sitting around drinking when they should be working! Well, except bands who clearly haven't worked on the songs enough, arrangements etc (which I'm sure you have)
  20. I don't think I have really ever liked valves for bass either, changed from Marshall to the Acoustic and instantly preferred it! I've finally succumbed to a lightweight rig though, and to my knackered old ears, Markbass sounds as good, if not better than anything else I've ever tried.
  21. Rob, that's a problem I'd like at the moment.... Oh well, there's always DV247, Gak, Andertons or Gear4music.....
  22. I can get the homepage ok, but when I click on the products link I can't get to the amp/cabs section....
  23. Anyone else having problems accessing the Thomann site?
