1. Well, I wake up in the morning, tell me baby what do you see? I see my baby and she walks up and she kisses me....
2. Said Red Molly to James, that's a fine motorbike A girl could feel special on any such like
3. I'd have been more worried about his awful vocals to be honest....
4. My car goes, Chicago Every weekend I pick up some cargo I think I know the bloody way by now Frankie And turn the goddam radio down, thank you
5. [sharedmedia=core:attachments:194105] [sharedmedia=core:attachments:194104] [sharedmedia=core:attachments:194107] My 77 or 78 (not sure which, but it has an S8 serial number) is a sort of custard yellow, which I assume is (was) Olympic White. I bought it in 1979, I don't ever remember it being any other colour though...
6.
Which itself, of course, is a copy of the double bass.
Well, that's not really the case....
7. I'd love one but sadly don't have the space.... I do have a 1950's Magnus chord organ though, which sounds a bit like a harmonium. And yes, it is hard not to do an Ivor Cutler impression....
8.
Hate Hades himself!!! Very nice guy, unfortunately the only times I've had to deal with him have been funerals (Mum/Aunt). I don't live up there so not had a chance to see them play classics like Coalville Girls or MILF!!! Will have to combine a trip to see mums old mates with a gig!
I did trawl youtube for their other classic, Piss For Free, sadly it doesn't seem to be uploaded.....
9.
Did he used to drive a black Merc with a very memorable reg No. ?
Not sure about a Merc, but he did have a black people carrier and a big black Chrysler with a very memorable reg number....
10.
That is very true. So why not just go straight to the source?
Damn it, I'm off to my Mums house to get mine from her cupboard and rediscover just how good the real thing is!
11. There are bound to be good and bad examples of every bass on the market, depending on age, set up, damage, your taste etc. Fenders are no different. One thing I've always thought though, is that EVERY other electric bass is, to some degree, a copy of the precision.
12. Ok, I can definitely recommend Paul Reno Photography if anyone in the Leicester area needs some pics doing! Even I look half-decent in some of them! I was quite nervous before the shoot, but he made us all feel very relaxed and comfortable within just a few minutes. We actually had a really good time and have more than enough quality pics to make sure it's going to be a fair while before we have to go through it all again! Here's one of the ones he's sent me so far...
13. Richard Thompson is on next week and his new bass player, Davey Faragher is well worth a look!
14. Actually, I've just got home and I think it went quite well.... I'll post a couple of the results on here once I get them. Paul was pretty good at making us all feel relaxed and had a great imagination when it came to composition and finding interesting backdrops etc. We didn't fancy studio shots, so we went to the area around our rehearsal room which is in a pretty run-down part of Leicester, so lots of graffiti, derelict buildings etc. Hardest part was not giggling and responding to instructions like "grimace a bit" and "look mildly despondent" Probably ought to wait to see the results before I recommend him, but if anyone in the Leicester area needs any publicity pics, his Facebook page is Paul Reno Photography.
15.
When my mum passed away I dealt with a funeral parlour in Loughborough and got chatting to the chap in there about bands, yup, he is the lead singer in Iron Python! Funeral director by day, wig and make up screaming lead singer by night!!! A right piss take by the looks of it!!
That's my mate Kris, he is indeed the manager of a funeral parlour. That's not me on bass in the video though, I'd left by the time they got round to doing their own songs....
16. Seeing as we can't play at the minute due to our drummers broken wrist, to keep things ticking over we've organised a photoshoot with a photographer friend today. Weird thing is, I'm actually getting quite nervous about it, much more than I ever get before a gig (pre gig nerves have never been an issue for me) It's not like anything hangs on it, it's just a way of keeping the interest going while we're on an enforced break for a few weeks. Even so, I'm getting jittery and the butterflies are starting to go a little bit mad! Anyone else get like this in front of a camera?
17.
Evetything my band does - though Viva! Lyme Regis probably just pips the rest
Brilliant!
18. Coalville Girls by my old band Iron Python.... You probably have to be from or near Coalville to appreciate the lyrics though.... http://youtu.be/AJOvkq7V4do Failing that, Bunsen Burner by John Otway, which also features Basschatter Seymourfluid .....
19. The singer may well be "The Star" but the overall sound should be balanced....
20. Sounds like someone needs a wireless kit, and to get out in the room at soundcheck... If the drums aren't mic'd, you should all be playing to their level. If he can't hear himself when it's all good in the room, he needs better monitoring. Could be that if he's out front and you're standing right next to your rig, that you are too loud and you're not in "The cone" ie, the bass goes past your knees? So you turn up til you can hear it but by then it's too loud further away. Also bear in mind that a lot of singers are like a lot of guitarists, in that they think they should be louder than everyone else because they're the star!
21. I'd never even thought about a spare amp until I joined Basschat and read about amps failing after a few months or a coupe of years...
22. Just saying, in my case I'd rather take a spare amp than a spare bass.... In practice have never bothered with either and have never had a problem (but I guess there is always a first time) As for taking a spare bass/amp and then leaving it in the car....
23. Yes, there is the PA option, but if it's a small pub gig with a vocal only PA and you have a stroppy singer who isn't keen on putting a bass through his 12" cabs....
24. I find it quite interesting that lots of people think it necessary to take a spare (quality or otherwise) bass to a gig, but very few have said they take a spare amp. I'd be much more worried about an amp breaking than a bass (even one of my cheap, crap ones) Especially as the advice dished out on here in every "which amp?" thread is always "buy second hand, you'll get much more for your money" So, many of the people who only use expensive basses because they're more "reliable" quite often advise others to buy second hand amps...
