1.
Long may it continue to serve you well. I don't recall exactly what happened to mine (I think mine might have been a 120, rather than a 220) but I do remember the tech who repaired it saying that it wasn't an uncommon problem. While I did like it, I never really trusted it after that, and sold it on. My immediate replacement was a Carlsbro TC60, which I've still got. I wondered at the time if it would be loud enough. It was...
I also bought a non-working 120 with a cab (because I wanted the cab) The guy who sold it to me said it had just stopped working mid gig. I switched it on briefly and it did start to smoke quite badly! I sold it to MrFoxon! I did have a look inside, and the 120 is nothing like the 220, about half the circuitry!
2.
I had an Acoustic head went up in smoke, literally, during a gig 20-odd years ago. I've always carried a spare since then, and never needed it ! Never leave home without a BDI21 too these days. You're round Cambridge way, are you not? A bit late now perhaps, but drop me a PM if you get stuck in future.
Just the opposite of my experience then. I've gigged with an Acoustic 220 for 33 years and never felt the need to take a back-up amp. I did buy an Ashdown 600w, thinking it would be louder (when I was in a spoof hair metal band) It wasn't.....
3. Is that on Warwick Rd, Knightsbridge? If so, I once fitted the signs there!
4. In my experience, the smaller the kit, the better the drummer!
5. Mature (ahem) bass player looking for a band! Loads of gear/experience, transport etc. Into almost anything except metal or funk. Happy to travel a bit, covers or originals. Not into doing loads of gigs, once or twice a month would suit me best.
6. Thanks chaps, am already on Bandmix, have just joined Lemonrock and am about to check out the others...
7. Anyone know of any other "Musician Wanted" type sites apart from Join My Band and Partysounds? Sites that actually work maybe? I've got ads on both of them at the minute and they seem to be just full of timewasters really. Thanks in advance!
8. Looks brilliant, where did you get the decal from? I was going to get a custom one made for my 50's lookalike.
9. And now that I've had the head re-shaped and put the ashtrays on!
10. Howard Smith (0116 2706862) in Leicester has just done a brilliant job for me, great price, quick turnaround and a nice bloke! Highly recommended!
11. Hi Chimike, I have the original speakers for the 402, I swapped them for Eminence Beta's to give more power handling when I use it with my Ashdown head. I'll be putting them back in one day as the MAGs 575w is no louder than the 220s 180w!
12. Very tempted by one of those HBs... And the equivalent 70s style jazz... Must remember I'm thinning the herd... I believe that the chap I bought mine from, has the Jazz for sale too!
13. My latest purchase, stands me at £70 so far!
14. I am quite practical and do own all of the above tools, I'm just a bit nervous about taking lumps out of a brand new bass!
15. I’ve just bought a Harley Benton 50’s P copy, which despite being a cheapie, is a great bass and I’m very pleased with it. The only thing that I find a bit annoying is the shape of the headstock. It’s way too modern and I’d like to re-shape it to something a bit closer to the original design. How easy would this be for a less than confident amateur? What’s the best tool for the job? Jigsaw, router, fret saw? Also, how easy would it be to patch up the satin finish? Or would I have to refin the whole neck? Lastly, is there an easy way to remove the decals, without sanding? Cheers!
16. Just bought a Harley Benton bass from Tom. Great bass, arrived quickly, and very well packed! Am very happy!
17. Kodiakblair, what's the neck like on these? I tried The Squier version a while back, and didn't like it much.
18. I've always found gigs to be more trouble than they're worth.
19. I was hoping there would be a couple of late 70's P basses to compare mine to, as It's the only one I've ever played! (I've owned mine for 35 years)
20. Damn, no excuses now, as it's only 10 minutes away! 1. Si600 - No gear, I expect to be too busy and I've nothing exotic or interesting! 2. Roland Rock - '78 P, W&T Ergon 5, Rocket Rig or GlockenRig 3. 4-string-thing - '78 (77?) P, Kala U Bass and either my Acoustic 220 or Minimark 4. Pantherairsoft - 5. KevB - Tea and biscuits 6. Doyle - V940, ME-20B, Random self build 7. intime-nick - maybe my Shuker, Sandberg, rack & pedalboard etc 8. andydye (if I can get agreement from swmbo) - ACG 5'er fretted and fretless, MarkBass LMIII, EAD Foundation 212, some pedals
21. Yup, right on my doorstep, so count me in!
22. I seem to spend a lot of my free time trying to find a band, or people to form one!
