  1. Either uneven frets or a "ski ramp" at the end of the fretboard. Take it for a set-up, they'll quickly work it out
  2. A myth I think! IMHO Billy Cox took that trio to another level
  3. Thats Tommy Shannons white Jazz Bass. He was Johnny Winters bass player at the time - Woodstock era. I read that Hendrix played the bass on All Along The Watchtower as Noel Redding had gone out to the shop.
  4. And its still sounding great!
  5. Got them on my CS 64 Jazz. Current band is about 80% fingers 20% pick and they sound great. With the pick I tend to palm mute them for a soul/60's tic-tac vibe, almost a flat wound tone like that, especially with a bit of compression. I've also played them 'wide open' if you like with a pick in punk and rock bands, again they sound great - really snarly
  6. Got a Trace Elliot SMX head from Dunc in a trade. Fantastic bloke to deal with, friendly, good comms and knows how to pack an amp for transit - awesome stuff! Cheers Dunc!
  7. Fender 9050L break in very nicely - a well set up bass and lots of hours playing on these will reward you. Probably true for most flats, I had a set of La Bella 110’s on a Precision for about 7 years and they just got better all the time. The G died first, just lost its tone, but they were really good for a long time.
  8. I assume they didn't start off by gigging pubs then!
  9. I'd narrow it right down to around 68 - 73. I love music either side of that but for me, everything was at its peak around that time - song writing, recording, production, performance. The absolute peak of modern popular music for me.
  10. I always enjoy using my DHA VT1 EQ DI. Size, odd power supply etc aside, nothing else really has that 'bark' sort of drive that I get from this. It's the only pre-amp that I'm totally happy with going into a power amp/effects return and also FOH. I'd love to have it modded so that a preset level of colour and boost could be kicked in together but for now I just flick those two switched on before the songs that I need it on. Yes, I agree with the Bassman tone comment - but with a 'much' more usable EQ!
  11. Bought a Boss LMB3 from Luke. Fantastic bloke to deal with, great comms and very quick postage. Recommended!
  12. CS '64 Jazz's are great - enjoy your bass!
  13. I get a good kip if I'm connected to a High Pass filter - some yank website reckons we can't do without it......
  14. Bought a bass from Rich. Nice instrument, fair price, great guy to deal with - thoroughly recommended!!
  15. Mostly vinyl, CD's and some cassettes. I already own them and can't see a good reason to pay again to stream that same music. Anything new that I get via download is on Bandcamp as I wont touch Spotify, Apple, etc
  16. This is my string of choice in Eb on a Jazz bass played mainly with a pick - perfect tension for me, quite a low action and no fret rattle. A great rock / punk tone.
  17. Agreed and I'd certainly add Joe Osborn to that list. Outside of Motown, he was a part of the sound of American 60's pop.
