Odd that 2 people have commented on the weight of Warwick basses and yet with my latest obsession in bass weight loss I've only found ONE bass that is lighter than either my SSI or SSII (yes the 2nd one is Afzelia which can be heavy)! I'm not here to stand up and defend all Warwick basses (regardless of the fact that I have 3 for sale ) and I've no idea what model the references were aimed at but I do know that the OP stated Warwick = heavy but would love to try a Spector; I've owned 2 Spector Euros and recently have tried 2 USA Spectors... ALL of the Spectors weighed more than EITHER of my Streamers! Not entirely different basses Warwick/Spector but it is amusing to see how prejudices can be formed Hmmm

If you work from the assumption that a lot of your tone is in your fingers then you really can open up your search to cover a lot more bases/basses It may not be your cup of tea but the guy who just bought my Warwick SSI fretless has a Warwick Pro M fretless (one of the earlier Pro M series) now going spare, I've no idea if it suits your needs or is something that even interests but I'm speaking to him later today so I'll get some details any way.

If you are on a pilgrimage across the Pennines, you could turn left (hoon it a fair few miles up the road ) and you could blast through my DB12s and I'd likely as not be able to persuade WoT to bring along his Berg 2x10s... maybe the above mentioned SWRs
I hope it sells quicker than mine did, lots of compliments no cash im afraid.Nice guitars.
Oddly enough last year I considered buying an identical high gloss lacquer bass to this in the same see-thru red and the two that I found couldn't be bought for less than £1000. The strength of the Euro and the Dollar might make things more interesting, so I'm probably going to put all of the Warwicks up on TB and see what happens, especially as I've found a very reasonably priced International courier.

Why you should never defret a wenge neck Warwick
warwickhunt replied to warwickhunt's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
'Quell surprise'... it's back again and the seller is warning others of some nasty buyer who either didn't pay or returned the item; can't understand why! '88 Warwick Streamer Stage II 4 string *SOLD*

The clear out continues! I traded this for a Warwick +cash and it stands me about £750, I would hope to get as close to £700 as possible. There are no issues with the bass; it plays nicely, has a very healthy output and is in excellent condition. I think that I am right in saying that due to the fact that it is a 2007 bass then it will be loaded with Lakland's own pups. The guard is a minty/off-white colour and the body wood has a very striking grain to it, I'll take more pics in the daylight tomorrow.
Selling all these Warwick's , will you still be able to retain that user ID? What's the action like on this one? Cheers, Lee
Oh I can still rightfully be named WH... My Mrs reckons I am any way! The action on this is low/medium low as it is strung with flatwounds but the neck can be set ram-rod straight if you want the action right down and you play with a light touch. I should add that I have a few sets of brand new round wound strings if a prospective new owners wants the bass set up with those instead (though you'd have to describe how you play; do you really dig in or do you have a light touch etc.).

'88 Warwick Streamer Stage II 4 string *SOLD*

Good condition for a well gigged bass with lightly flamed rock maple body, a few dings or dinks and minimal worming. I have the action pretty low on this and as a result there is one fret a smidgen high @ about the 18th fret on the G string which gives a double note when fretted there and the next fret up. I'm only mentioning this as I've not been bothered by it enough to get it looked at (action just a mm or two higher i.e. 'normal' would mean this would disappear)... best thing is that I can refuse to play Free's 'All Right Now' because of this double note! The bass is superbly balanced and @ 9lb 6oz not a heavy weight for an all maple bodied bass (excuse my obsession with weight but my shoulder is fecked ); fingerboard edges are nicely rolled as per that period Warwick and the tone is superb (2 band EQ). I'm not in a rush to give this away so I'm open to sensible offers (certainly looking for close to 4 figures) and I'd be open to trades/swaps for a downsized, lightweight bass such as a Sadowsky. I'll get more pics as and when the camera emerges from it's hiding place.

1988 Warwick Streamer Stage II (2) This is arguably among one of the best Stage II basses that you will find this side of a CS... IMHO better! 1988 'reportedly' some of these early SSII bodies are Afzelia Pommelle/Bubinga Pommelle but I would be happier to just say that this is a stunning example of Afzelia! The body, neck and fingerboard are in fabulous condition for a 21 year old bass, with one small scratch to the lower horn which I couldn't even capture on camera. The neck is the slimmer profile (obviously no volute @ this period) and the fingerboard edges are rolled as per the old vintage Fenders etc. Inlays etc are all excellent and the bass has never been mistreated or damaged in any way. Pups are the original EMGs and the preamp is MEC. The output jack socket was replaced a couple of years ago, so no issues there. Nut is the original MkI brass 'adjust-a-nut'. Bridge and saddles are all adjustable with no seized or corroded parts. This isn't desperation and I don't 'have' to sell any of my basses so I won't be giving them away, I simply don't play these as often as I used to. By all means PM me an offer and if you have a Sadowsky or similar quality 'downsized' Jazz, Precision or PJ bass then that may be of interest but NOT full sized heavy basses.

That colour may not be Kev's idea of heaven but I'd beat folks off with a big stick to get to a bass in that colour, gorgeous!
A friend of mine used to describe my action as one whereby a person with a top hat on could limbo dance underneath the strings - slight exageration perhaps?
Come on now Howie, we both know that you don't mix with the aristocracy; I'd possibly accept a flat capped, whippet walker but top hat...!

As always, a pleasure to deal with the man! It isn't the first and I very much doubt it'll be the last... especially if I get to liking these 'big planks'.
-
Nice one Kev! Looking at the last couple of pics I am a bit concerned that you are preparing to tune the bass up already...

Anyone know of a similar design to a Wal Bass?
warwickhunt replied to Soloshchenko's topic in Bass Guitars
Must resist temptation, must resist.............. Alternatively, I could strap on one of your dimunitive W basses and catch sight of myself in the mirror, that should do the trick Unless I'm mistaken the JB model looks like it has a slightly more conventional body size, so I might just get away with it. Don't tell me you have one of these as well?
Unfortunately no, I don't have the 'W' JB model... though I am presently the owner of 3 Jazz basses so I need to reduce that number very soon! -
Dont tell Warwickhunt, but I'd really really like one of those. If only they'd do a five string fretless version for less than the price of a house.......
Ha! you didn't think I'd spot this but I have. Liking a Warwick Gibbo/Walesque design is the thin end of the 'wedge', when I call round to yours tomorrow I'll bring a variety of 'W' designs and we'll see if you 'crack'! -
The serial number reports the place and date of manufacture, all consistent with a GL, but so far no-one can confirm what model that number is for, any where on the net that can correlate Serials to model type? Unfortunately I'd forgotten you can't cancel an auction once someone has bid on it, so our mystery bidder gets to eat his amp after all! I guess I'll have to go through the bidding round.

It is possible...
As WoT says there are ways and means. If you need advice drop me a PM but it is straightforward.
Yup, all the Geddy Lee's (and some of the other signature models like the Jaco) are made there. I've contacted the vendor, he's happy to let me have it for the BIN price, but I want to be sure it's a Geddy Lee, the bridge doesn't look like a Badass in the pics. He'll be back in Scotland on Tuesday and he's gonna have a look at the bridge. Wateroftyne was right, he doesn't know what it is.
Not the best pic' but it looks like a BA to me. Surely the serial number will allow you to check what it is (loads of websites with this kind of info).
It's a Big Body man !! It's a smidge under 9lb (on my bathroom scales) as a comparison my Ultra light Sadowsky UV 70 Metro is 8 1/4 lb (as measured by Dave Wilson on his scales) I'd class it as a "good weight" for a Jazz to me that means on the light side of mid weight
Living with this Squier & Lakkie JO I'm kinda getting used to those big old planks! The weight is my main consideration these days, I knew your UV was light but I didn't realise it was 'that' light.
