1. I'd look at used gear on BC, obviously you'll get a lot more for your money than new and you don't take a great hit in depreciation if you further upgrade. It is a shameless plug but I may well have a Tech Soundsystems 2x12 cab for sale. It's actually the cab section of a combo without the amp in so you can fit a 2U amp into the inbuilt rack section at the top. In design it is the same as the Schroeder cabs (Tech did it before Schroeder I believe), where one of the 12's is on an angled baffle so that it looks like a 1x12 from the front. If you are interested (it'd leave you £300 to buy an amp) give me a shout and I'll get pics.
2.
Interesting rig! Never seen one before, despite having had several H & K guitar amps which I really liked. The old H & K stuff from when it was all made in Germany was great, extrememly well made and very clean sounding in a positive way.
The bassbase 250 (combo and amp) along with the first series of BC cabs were H&K's first foray into the bass market, closely followed by the bassbase 400/600 amps. As you say the early German made gear was real pro quality stuff and had a fair old retail tag to match and I loved the nice fat but clean tone... I liked them a lot!
3. Switchcraft ones are the muts nuts though the Neutrik should be good... just don't skimp and buy a cheapie!
4.
i have a baggage weighing thing, but it doesn't take too well to guitars!! However, altho the weight changed a little each time, it averages at approx 3kg - sorry can't be dead accurate but I did do it two or three times and it hovered first around 2.97 then 3.06 etc..you get the picture..
Thanks for taking the time to try and get the weight but I've got to confess that even taking your heaviest weight makes that a pretty light bass! I'd certainly be interested but due to past experiences of folks exagerating claims of basses being significantly lighter than they actually are I'd need to be sure that your bass was as light as you say; especially as I couldn't try before buying.
5. Do you have an accurate weight (before you ask... dodgy shoulder)?
6.
H&K gear is awesome. If they decided to bring out lightweight gear I would be very tempted. In saying that,,,,,god knows what kinda price they would be
I know what you mean!
Looks nice and tidy. 2x12..?
2x10... but thinks it's bigger than it is!
My first loud amp was a Bassbase 600 head. In hindsight, it was one the best amps I've owned in terms of useful features, volume and build quality.
I've had the BassBase 250, 400 + 600 and the 600 was awesome.
7. As I was under the illusion that 250w was insufficient power I sold this amp and cab about 5 years ago to a local lad that I'd known from many moons ago. Long story short; I've been thinking of keeping a practice rig at our rehearsal space so I've been watching here, ebay etc. and up pops this. Contacted the guy who hadn't used it in anger since buying it and so I went to get it back. I went to try the rig and it was pathetic. I had input and output gains on full and it wasn't even as loud as your car stereo (assuming you aren't driving a 'beatbox' Saxo). I tried various tricks and came to the conclusion that worst case scenario the amp might need a service/fix but the cab appeared to be as good as when I'd flightcased it. A word of warning... don't use instrument cable for speaker lead! As soon as I got it home I realised that the speaker lead that he gave me was an instrument patch lead, replaced with a proper lead and hey presto! Welcome home old friend.
8. Is the finish by Dave 'Banger' Wilson?
9. Is the E string significantly inboard compared to the G or does one/both run out a bit?
10. My most recent project are seasoned musicians (read as 'old') doing covers and we've all done the pub circuit for some time. It comes as a very pleasant surprise to find that we can and do actually pull in a crowd. In fact mid/late January we did a pub gig which by the end of the evening had been so packed that the landlord professed that they were his greatest takings since taking over the pub 3 years ago (and they have bands on every week); he even went on to say that he'd taken more on the night that we played than he had taken on New Years Eve and New Years Day combined! Not bad considering there were at least two other pubs putting on bands within a mile radius and one of those bands is very highly regarded in the area!
11. Whereabouts are you?
12.
Is their pound of flesh worked out on the total fee (incl p&p) paid by the seller?
I've not looked into that but you can bet your bottom dollar there's something in what you say!
Basically because of the T&Cs it's your responsibility until they get it. Regardless of how the buyer wants it sent and for how much.
Hmmmm... I know what you mean and despite the fact that I've now clearly stated that insurance is at the buyers risk/option, it'd be just my luck to get scr3wed on this. All in all I might have to rethink my strategy!
13.
i guess the fact that you're adding options to pay for insurance complicates the 'free'ness of the postage. also what courier are you using. i gather that most companies DO NOT insure musical instruments.
I admit it 'clouds' the issue of free postage but at the end of the day I WILL send it free with no insurance. Both UPS and DHL offer insurance for musical instruments BUT it isn't cheap to add the insurance... hence my offer.
14. I've got 4 basses listed on ebay at present and I've offered free 'basic' delivery on all of them. Now though I confess I'd not be happy to send an expensive bass without insurance, I'd decided that I'd leave the issue of insurance up to the buyer and they could add that to whatever level they like. This seemed about the fairest way to be sure I didn't have accusations of inflating delivery costs and it also made it appealing for prospective buyers. However... I've had a message that I am contravening eBay rules/T&C by trying to bypass ebay fees and my listings may be terminated if I don't either include a delivery fee OR offer free delivery but remove the request that buyers pay insurance! Now how the hell they come to that conclusion I have no idea but I'm at the point where I'm tempted to say stick it and close my account. Tw4ts!
15. I've no idea if it is the pups, pre, fingerboard/body woods or neck-thru design (most likely culprit) but you are right that 'some' SSI basses do sound more compressed than other basses and though it may not be to your taste there are loads who, when they find it, 'love it'! I don't think swapping out components will get you the sound that you require (i.e. a Jazz sound) so I'd sell and buy a Jazz... Tip - Put it on ebay.de as the interest is MAHOOSIVE compared to the UK.
16. He doesn't look best pleased with your negative feedback! Be aware that when this is resolved (best to keep your powder dry so not before) you can add to the feedback and respond to 'his' comment re you leaving him negative feedback.
17. Looks like good clean players dort to me!
18.
I had one of those in 1987, cracking rock bass, good luck.
+1
19. You will be leaving negative feedback... yes? It's the only way to ensure he doesn't keep pulling the stunt and he can't neg you.
20. TBH mate it'll be worth more than you paid for it (£0) but a lot less than you'd probably hoped for! That's the pain of being a Warwick owner at present; I'd advise advertising it in Europe either on ebay or via the Warwick forum. As for price either do a search of completed listings on ebay or a search of sales of similar instruments on BC (and there have been a few identical instruments sold on here).
21.
How can you tell someone has been shill bidding?
Thems trade secrets, known only to the ebay Police... However, if you look at the bidding history on his last 'THREE' Decade sales you might see the pattern.
22. Not that it matters because you were prepared to bid more than £500 anyway but you do realise that he's been shill bidding his basses up to £500! Those with a good detective's nose (Inspector Beedster ) will be able to find the evidence.
23. That string extension is a first for me!
24.
Just found this link to clear up any confusion from Hans himself
No disrespect to HPW but I've learned to take 'the gospel according to official Warwick sources' with a pinch of salt! You'd be amazed how many times people quote official Warwick responses (inc those from HPW) and they have glaring omissions/inaccuracies. In fact if your response is cut and paste from HPW, there's a humongous one (or more) staring you in the face in that statement!
25. How come I go away from the PC for 5 days and stuff like this goes by! Had one of these and has been said it's often referred to as a 'Streamette' and as Mart stated they are not as urban myth would have you believe, the earlier 91 Ltd Ed 'Infinettes' with the necks chopped off (among other things for the reasons that Mart outlined). The numbers of this bass vary depending upon who you listen to (if it is a seller you are listening to there are only 20 in the world... ) but seeing as how I've owned 2 and seen a dozen or more for sale I don't think that there are as few as people say!
