  1. The same thing happened with my nephew. He lost the whole of his monthly income in one night just after being paid and then tried to take his life because of the guilt. I bailed him out. Less than a year later he did it again despite all sorts of controls being supposedly put in place with the online betting companies. My sister bailed him out again. It impacts the victim’s wider family as well. 👿 He said he thought he could win some money to pay some debts because he’s “quite good at it”. Clearly he isn’t!
  2. I think I read somewhere that the IV doesn’t actually mean anything. Apparently they just put it there to confuse people, which it has!
  3. Short of banning it completely they should only allow bluntly truthful advertising along the lines “you can bet with us but understand that the odds are stacked completely in our favour and you will lose a sh!tload of money and you will not solve whatever problem you have, in fact you will make it worse”
  4. I’m amazed at the prevalence of gambling advertising. I think it ought to be treated the same as tobacco.
  5. The One Show item was presented by Watchdog's Matt Allwright and he invited anyone let down by any online marketplace to contact: [email protected] As I mentioned in the other thread on this subject Matt Allwright is a guitarist so it's likely he would be interested in this story.
  6. On the One Show tonight there was an item by Watchdog’s Matt Allwright about people getting scammed on the Vinted web site. Not dissimilar to the experiences here. At the end of the item he said if there was anyone else who’d been scammed on any online marketplace to get in touch and report their experiences. I know that he’s a guitarist so he’ll probably be interested in hearing from anyone on here who’s been affected. I would suggest all affected members to get in touch ASAP to create some noise about this story.
  7. For me The Raven is one of the key Stranglers albums. I find it to be a worthwhile progression from the first three albums. I think it’s atmospheric and moody, particularly the title track. This probably has a lot to do with me first seeing them live on the Raven tour in ‘79. That gig was dark and moody and really cemented the album in my musical experience.
  8. Oh my word, this is even nicer than the other one you put up! I want it but absolutely don’t need it. 😩 GLWTS.
  9. I always felt that the front cover was a bit odd and the back should have definitely been the front.
  10. I have one identical to this and it’s my favourite Precision, the one I instinctively pick up first. There’s something about the neck that just feels right. I don’t need another but I would echo the comment that if anyone is thinking of buying, Just go for it. GLWTS.
  11. I think you’re right about the sound being gone. In fact I don’t think it lasted much beyond the first three albums. I’ve seen them live many times and on many occasions the bass sounded like a muddy mess. Whether that’s to do with JJ’s rig or poor FOH understanding of how it should sound, I don’t know.
  12. I should point out that it was his Fender Precision his early sound was known for. The Yamaha BB2000 in that picture wasn’t particularly representative of his bass tone on the early albums but featured on later ones. And just in case anyone missed it on the BB Mega Thread, here’s the actual neck from the bass in the picture: -
  13. Probably “Sometimes” by the Stranglers. I’m hoping to verify this soon because apparently our drummer has a cassette recording of our first gig, albeit very poor quality. If he can find it I’ll take a digital copy of it.
  14. The sound was pretty consistent throughout so this would be my guess.
  15. If he did that at my house he’d get a bucket of water over him!
  16. What make is your chorus? Perhaps the same manufacturer’s flanger will be suitable for bass and will match the aesthetic?
  17. Nu-X mighty plug? £60 from Amazon or Thomann. https://www.nuxefx.com/mighty-plug.html It plugs into your bass output jack and requires a short wired connection to headphones but that’s it. It has built in effects and also allows a phone or tablet to connect by Bluetooth for audio to play along with. There’s no latency issue because Bluetooth only handles the external audio source to the device and your bass is a wired connection from the device. The default presets are not particularly useful for bass but it’s extremely configurable and can be easily tweaked using the mobile app.
  18. Presumably photographing it in front of an expensive looking SSL console is designed to enhance its apparent high value?
  19. If that’s Ellen Alaverdyan I believe she plays a short scale model and they weigh around 3.5kgs from what I’ve seen
