  1. You can call me Al - Bakithi Kumalo for Paul Simon. Sledgehammer - Tony Levin for Peter Gabriel.
  2. I'm amazed that it's still there! A proper old-school half pipe that is (no flat bottom). Anyway, on with the bass stuff.... as you were.
  3. If anyone has an Amazon Prime subscription the digital version the September edition of Sound on Sound is available as a free download. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0B9ZGWCN5/
  4. I bought a set of new strings from Andy. Very quick to respond and he got them sent out straight away. Efficient transaction and he’s easy to deal with. Cheers.
  5. The Duck and Drake is a real old spit and sawdust type pub. Well it used to be when I lived in Leeds around thirty years ago. We spent every Sunday evening there watching a band that had a residency. It was a fantastic atmosphere.
  6. I was in Leeds last night. Started off in Whitelocks, The oldest pub in Leeds, est. 1715. Worth a visit, but it’s too small to host bands. I Drank far more than was sensible though and spent today regretting it.
  7. I sincerely hope the law catches up with him first. A nice custodial sentence ought to keep out of harms way.
  8. As this is clearly now a trade scam surely Trading Standards, who dealt with his previous scam that resulted in a conviction, should be informed and no doubt they would be interested in taking him on?
  9. This sounds like something I must have known back in the day but have now completely forgotten! 😳
  10. I played Cornet in the school band (45 years ago) and could read simple to moderate treble clef music. I always struggled with sight reading but could eventually work a piece out. However, the passage of time has dulled what little knowledge I had. I regret not keeping up with it now.
  11. I’ve not tried anything from that period but my favourite Precision so far is my 2008 US Standard. Do you know what the differences are between the older and newer ranges are?
  12. I’m not really a heavy rock/metal fan and Led Zep fans will probably crucify me but ‘Fool in the Rain’ is a guilty pleasure of mine.
  13. I have a Fender Rumble LT25 (with built in programmable effects) which I picked up almost new for £120. As with the Rumble 15 it wouldn’t pass muster at a gig but it’s more than adequate for home practice. It sits unobtrusively next to the sofa behind a small coffee table.
  14. Coincidentally I watched this video a couple of days ago. It might be useful in your deliberations.
  15. Awesome idea. From a quick listen I got: - Poppy Poppy Hey Noggin Methanol Equity
  16. I'm still in touch with the drummer from the band I was in, in the early 80s and he reminded me that he had this broken BB neck. I thought you guys might be interested in the story behind it. This neck is from JJ Burnell's bass which he was using in 1982/83. JJ used the bass during the Strangler's Feline Tour at that time, plus many TV appearances including The Tube 1983, TOTP's - European Female etc. It's possible that it was also used on the recording of the Feline album although I don't know that for sure. It was damaged during the US leg of that tour when his strap failed and the bass dropped to the ground. The Kinkade Brothers in Bristol had made a few guitars for the Stranglers so the bass was sent to them for repair. I don't know the details of the repair but I know they made a new neck and, given that the BB2000 is a neck-through design, presumably they spliced the new neck into the existing body? I'm also guessing that the original fretboard was likely reused. My mate acquired this neck because his brother, the guitarist in our band, was having an acoustic guitar made by the Kinkades and they visited the workshop to check progress of the build shortly after JJ's bass had been repaired. The old neck was lying around in the workshop about to be chucked out so, being a fan of the Stranglers my mate asked if he could have it. Many years later my mate met with JJ in Liverpool and he took the neck along and got him to sign it. Here's a picture of JJ using the bass in question and also the signed neck.
  17. Here’s something a little different. I’ll post the full story when I’ve clarified a couple of facts, but for now, as a teaser here are a couple of pics of a broken BB2000 neck. 😉
  18. Thanks for the recommendation, I really enjoyed that. 🙂
  19. Me too! I even turned my sub-woofer up to full but it was only marginally better. I’m now reliving my youth by watching Dogtown and the Z-Boys on Sky Documentaries but will take a look at your recommendation at 10pm. Cheers.
  20. Just watching Bob Marley Reimagined on BBC 2. Disappointing lack of bass in the mix I think.
  21. !! 😲 what’s that like?
