I’ve not tried anything from that period but my favourite Precision so far is my 2008 US Standard. Do you know what the differences are between the older and newer ranges are?

I’m not really a heavy rock/metal fan and Led Zep fans will probably crucify me but ‘Fool in the Rain’ is a guilty pleasure of mine.

Small Practice Amp - PJB or Trace Elliot 1x8 Combo
Velarian replied to Gully35's topic in Amps and Cabs
I have a Fender Rumble LT25 (with built in programmable effects) which I picked up almost new for £120. As with the Rumble 15 it wouldn’t pass muster at a gig but it’s more than adequate for home practice. It sits unobtrusively next to the sofa behind a small coffee table. -
Coincidentally I watched this video a couple of days ago. It might be useful in your deliberations.

Awesome idea. From a quick listen I got: - Poppy Poppy Hey Noggin Methanol Equity

I'm still in touch with the drummer from the band I was in, in the early 80s and he reminded me that he had this broken BB neck. I thought you guys might be interested in the story behind it. This neck is from JJ Burnell's bass which he was using in 1982/83. JJ used the bass during the Strangler's Feline Tour at that time, plus many TV appearances including The Tube 1983, TOTP's - European Female etc. It's possible that it was also used on the recording of the Feline album although I don't know that for sure. It was damaged during the US leg of that tour when his strap failed and the bass dropped to the ground. The Kinkade Brothers in Bristol had made a few guitars for the Stranglers so the bass was sent to them for repair. I don't know the details of the repair but I know they made a new neck and, given that the BB2000 is a neck-through design, presumably they spliced the new neck into the existing body? I'm also guessing that the original fretboard was likely reused. My mate acquired this neck because his brother, the guitarist in our band, was having an acoustic guitar made by the Kinkades and they visited the workshop to check progress of the build shortly after JJ's bass had been repaired. The old neck was lying around in the workshop about to be chucked out so, being a fan of the Stranglers my mate asked if he could have it. Many years later my mate met with JJ in Liverpool and he took the neck along and got him to sign it. Here's a picture of JJ using the bass in question and also the signed neck.

Here’s something a little different. I’ll post the full story when I’ve clarified a couple of facts, but for now, as a teaser here are a couple of pics of a broken BB2000 neck. 😉

Me too! I even turned my sub-woofer up to full but it was only marginally better. I’m now reliving my youth by watching Dogtown and the Z-Boys on Sky Documentaries but will take a look at your recommendation at 10pm. Cheers. -

Just watching Bob Marley Reimagined on BBC 2. Disappointing lack of bass in the mix I think. -
!! 😲 what’s that like?

Sounds more like the original A string broke and whoever replaced it didn’t have one to hand so just put whatever they could find on it. If they didn’t care enough about the bass to chuck it in the skip they probably wouldn’t care about correct string gauge.

I had a quick go this afternoon playing only using 3 fingers. Not a problem at all. Way easier than playing left handed I reckon.

Fender reportedly lays off hundreds of California employees
Velarian replied to MungoBass's topic in General Discussion
I just had a quick look at Fender basses listed on Thomann’s website and of the 169 advertised, only 23 are in stock and they all seem to be Mexican player series instruments. The availability of the American ones is quoted as “several months”. That doesn’t suggest there are warehouses are full of them. Perhaps it supports the theory that they’re moving to a more custom/built to order model? -

Did the bloke also used to run the joke shop that was down Tib Street? I wouldn’t be at all surprised. 😂

Getting practice right for the neighbours

Why not ask them when they’re going to be out? i.e. if they visit the derby and Joan club every Thursday for a couple of hours for example, then try and coordinate your rehearsals with their schedule. -

Also population growth creates a growing (probably unsustainable) market for all goods. When I was born in 1962 the global population was just over 3 billion and is now rapidly approaching 8 billion! It’s scary to think of the consequences of this. Probably a good time to invest in vintage instruments though. 😉 -

I’m pretty sure Midge Ure didn’t feel like that when Shaddap You Face stopped Vienna from getting to number 1 in 1980.
