One thing from my guitaring days...
The convention of delay last means you get more of the same... repeats are the same.
Placing the delay earlier in the chain... before modulation, such as a phaser, means the delay repeats are changing...
Not a fan of tort, but likes a pearl on a jazz... a little flamboyance, in a coloured socks or bold tie kinda way... not the full blown ponce cravat...
I would imagine attract each other...

Alternate between, or a bar of each, fretted and open, same note but different tone and timbre...
Throw in the odd 5th and octave in the courus... just to keep the blood flowing and stopping ya fingers nodding off...
Honestly... it could quite easy be a stylish fretboard to body transition with truss rod access. I wouldn't be half surprised... Ibanez 'bring it' with the 'woods 'n looks'
