  1. Depends if you are happy drilling holes? 13 v 11 etc... there are a few on Aliexpress - neck truss as well so watch out... quality is good... This on my Aria Pro Jazz to PJ...
  2. I'm Red/Green Colour Blind... Red and Green does the 'stand-off' or 'behind' thing with my eyes... The Green Pearl looks Wonderful - nice with the maple neck. https://a.aliexpress.com/_mO7snGC
  3. Son had mentioned the sound of metal-on-metal, like a lap guitar or slide... Happened upon this a couple of weeks back... Mistreated Harley Benton... Frets have been removed... Freebie... ...and a little crack in the back of the neck by the headstock... superglue-d... 0.3mm x 10cm x 1m Stainless Shim... £5 Aliexpress... Gotta cut down, glue, trim, and dress...
  4. ...or something 3D printed... ...OK, It was just an excuse to post my P Bitsa with a Maida Vale Alnico IV Split P again
  5. I'll let if go this time... looks good Little shim in the back of the neck pocket, slither of wood, bit of sandpaper... don't take much. Just goes to show what a bit of luck and a few hours arsing about can do...
  6. Tune!.. Some Great stuff by 10cc... Getting my Son to listen to some 10cc and Alan Parsons... I swap stuff every couple of months on his MP3 for his walk to school...
  7. You have the Out going to the jack Ring contact instead of the Tip contact...
  8. These arrived today... thanks to @shoulderpet DiMarzio DP123 Model J Set... look quite 'Moody' with the Hex Poles... Twin coil... for the Silent Treatment... Still after some Grey or Black foam though... Anyone? 😉
  9. @robbo400 I was persuaded against the semi-hollows as a beginner ... But you fancy a Hollow Body... or HB ...didn't want to spend a significant amount on something that I couldn't get on with. Whereas in today's mad world of mixed up priorities and rip-off costs, I can justify taking a punt on the Harley-Benton... Loads before you have taken the 'Harley Benton Punt'... I loves my HBO-850 Acoustic Bass... You should not be disappointed as all they need is a little tickle... ...lucky to know a luthier fairly well... Thats that bit sorted then ...if I have to write it off/sell at a loss as it is literally the price of 2 parking tickets... Who are you trying to convince?.. Yourself or your partner? Us lot on Basschat are already sold on the idea... Harley Benton or HB Hollow Body or HB... Which colour? If not seen, LP Shape ya say?.. i find this very nice... but a 34" https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Greg-Bennett-Royale-RLB-3-Bass-Guitar-Sunburst/1IC7 Or this for less, again a 34" https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/San-Francisco-Semi-Acoustic-Bass-by-Gear4music-Wine-Red/1ICK
  10. ^ little dribble of glue (in the hole -not top surface as it may effect the oil finish...) must have a suitable shard from ya chiselin'?..
  11. Prolly not as the foam you have is full surface, between the feet, and ss long as the foam it not compressed easy enough for the feet to contact the floor. The board would be to ensure the feet don't just dig in to the foam...
  12. Good Darts!... Just had the Hand-drill out for pickup mounting screw pilots...
  13. You going Std Plate and Wood Screws... Ferrule and Wood Screws, or either with Bolts and Neck Inserts Neck plates are Std-ish... Screw Pitch can vary as does the size of the screw, and depth of cutting thread. Have you the Bits? I wouldn't be inclined to make the neck holes tight... so reasonable pilot holes, and make sure they are deep enough... you don't want the screw to go tight before it's seated in the plate, 'cis you will round out the head. Pilot for Screw Size on the web, bear in mind if a dense wood, even more reason to get the pilot big enough... soap or wax on the threads... Align the plate on the back of the body... I'd drill from back to pocket, then tidy pocket... or Put the plate in the pocket, align front and sides, drill smaller pocket to back then bigger back to front... you might want to go tight on the clearance, so there is a bit of hold (no screwed) in the body. The body's i've had have already been neck drilled, so easy to just align and drill the neck... I wrapped part of the drill bit with elect tape to pack out - sleeve - to centre the neck hole pilot drill in the body. Lookin' Good...
  14. @ead... looks like the chrome nut and black spacer are missing... One of these should sort ya... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/386163785379? So you just need the Chrome Nut and black spacer from the new one, you can see the fiber washer spacers on the inside of box. Maybe the lightest dab of a cheap super glue to stop it coming undone and happening again, and on the others too... Only nip-up the chrome nut, as it's in to plastic, and a sandwich bag or bit of plastic over the nut, between socket, spanner (or pliers!) to protect the chrome and paint finish.
  15. Some of the blah blah in my experience may help... here is my Diesel... What is it? Problem with 'just the A string' is the neck is not under the correct tension... I'd start with the tuner nuts, then neck relief, then check the nut... fret third, slight tap clearance to string and 1st fret - I did a post 'Nut Job'... then bridge blade out... Sorting the Ball ends is a worthwhile chore... Post back your findings with pix...
  16. @Dom in Dorset Nice mix of Bob 'n Nik... clocked the 'Nik Turner' vibe before reading... BIG Fan...

  18. Found the body easier to secure, Sandpaper double sided to an off cut of wood... found easier to keep square, and maintain the pocket taper... and around a dowel to blend to the back of the pocket. ... and you need to work a smaller area, only the length and height of the pocket... not the longer flat of the neck, and its fuller depth, that will show.
  19. I'd work on the body... My alignment, elastic strings, workings etc.. might help.
