  1. Because one of the total number of the band is yourself. Interesting. For me it seems always to be a very dynamic and fluid situation. My little band 4111. Started off 4030, moved swiftly to 4300 until about 18 months ago but we weathered a storm and came out of it slightly differently to how we entered it. Bon Jovi band started maybe 5031 then swiftly moved to 5040 but I believe edging towards 5400. New blues trio - early days so 3020
  2. It is my pleasure to break Ash's radio silence. He bought my JV Precision in the most straightforward of transactions. He is a lovely fella Enjoy the bass, Ash - so glad it has gone to an appreciative new owner!
  3. Absolutely. Not point setting a precedent. 😁
  4. I'm sure if you ring the box office they can tell you.
  5. There was some talk a while back of using backing soda and superglue to fix a broken nut as the two together make an incredibly hard thing. Parsimonious fellow that I am, I used that tip and adapted it to glue together a pair of Mrs S's spectacles where the little thingumeebob that holds the arm into place had snapped, preventing the little screw from biting into anything. Worked a treat - albeit the arm is now fixed and not able to fold in. No point wasting £1 on another pair!
  6. I missed off my smiley. I'll do it now.
  7. No way. I wasn't allowed a bit of gentle bass laundering, so upgrading on that scale is certainly off limits.
  8. 🌵 Found it! never knew there was a cactus emoji, so thank you. I may use it from time to time.
  9. If you look for metric screws for Japanese Fender bridges you'll get a choice of lengths depending upon how low you want the action. I don't know how that translates into the thread diameter but this sort of thing would be fine - I've bought several before in order to prevent shredding my hand on the pokey out bit. saddles screws on eBay
  10. Perhaps like some modern art. Look at a painting by, say, Rothko, and it is, say, an orange square. But Mrs S assures me that because there is a back story to the orange square and that it was painted by Rothko it is art and not just an orange square. Having said that I don't understand scales, modes et al any more than I do modern art.
  11. Bought some stings - good price, dispatched promptly, nice padded envelope. Good comms. Top easy deal!
  12. I routinely sit on my Supercompact during tedious rehearsal bits. I weigh 100kg +/- and a lot of that weight is going to be on the cab. I wouldn't hesitate to stick a 25/30kg head on top. The voice would change quite dramatically if you changed the 110 for a second Compact, you would lose the punchiness and upper definition. My Barefaced 'journey' (!) started with a Compact. I added a Midget a shortish while later and when used together that changed the sound quite a bit - added the tightness that the Compact alone missed. If you like the sound of the 15/10, the Supercompact sounds exactly like Compact plus Midget, btw.
  13. Not being a fan of Jaco or scat I haven't listened to any of it. But perhaps the lady in question is pulling faces because of her sunburn? Looks a bit sore in that pic - maybe some Aloe vera gel or something.
  14. Someone who is potentially going to book the band, for one. That was very good indeed, enjoyed it much.
  15. I actually have a couple of 7lb 5ers, Pete. A Fender MB-5 and a Yamaha BX-5. Both are serious instruments, too. But, of course the 4 string variant of each would be even lighter. But yes, overwhelmingly, 5ers tend to be heavier - almost by definition because of the extra stuff the additional string generates. When I was on the lookout for a lightweight 5 String Precision I simply couldn't find one - had to have one made.
  16. I went through a short scale phase and really enjoyed playing them. I had a Fender Musicmaster, Squier VM Mustang, Squier Vista Series Musicmaster, Epiphone EB0, Danelectro Longhorn. If I were to choose which I would re-buy it would actually be the Squier VM Mustang, which to me sounded and felt like the one MIJ Mustang I once tried. It sounded and played like a bass far above its price point. The one I wouldn't bother with again would be the EB0, didn't enjoy that for many reasons.
  17. Hi Matt - I am just up the road in Benfleet but was brought up Chalkwell/Westcliff. Lots of us Sarfeest essex geezers on here.
  18. I am kind of scared this would happen to be by chopping and changing so I stick with 5 strings now*. I've got quite used to hopping around frets 5-7. Something I've just thought of - it is almost like playing a short scale, which I always enjoyed. *Except my EUB and new acoustic. Damn.
  19. Adrian stuck one in the case when he sent my bass to me - nice gesture. Lovely strap, too.
  20. I'm pretty upbeat about it myself. If I ever damage a new or pristine bass it is purely by accident. Stuff happens. Part of the instrument's history. For me it isn't anything to get precious over. The only time I had a refin done was one time when I bought a bass cheap and it was a colour I couldn't live with. I tried to refin myself, made it look even worse, ended up with Andyjr1515 bailing me out
  21. I would throw Danelectro into the ring. Longhorn and the 56. Seriously good fun if you like the look, which granted is absolutely NOT Fenderish, and vibe. Lighter than a feather, too.
  22. I've just joined a new blues power trio and have started to really listen properly to stuff I have been familiar with all my life. I believe I am becoming obsessed with Stevie Ray Vaughan - always been a fan but never REALLY listened to him and dissected it. My current ear worm is this one:
  23. Neither do I, Warren, frankly.
