1. I've got one of these and they're absolutely perfect for small gigs. Bump!
2.
I dont want to waste a load of the time I have trying to find the "right" teacher.
It's a bit like asking: "what meal will I like eating?". Only you will know.
3. I've got a Status neck on my Stingray which feels really nice. Factor in around £400 for that unless you want to drill the machine head holes and fit it yourself. Quite a bit of dosh. ...esp as I still end up gigging the G&L!
4.
Well I have given it a bloody good ironing and it didnt work sorry
"Welcome to 'Iron Your Bass'...." Don't worry about it - pretend it's a Fender and think of the value rising as it becomes more and more damaged.
5. Why have you stripped down a washing machine in your front room?
6. Musicmans are great secondhand buys at the mo. Try before you buy though - because they are heavy - esp Stingrays. Great live basses though. Edit: Worth checking out G&L Tributes too. The L2000 is a good blend of Stingray and Precision.
7. Scott Morriss from indie band, The Bluetones uses one I think. They're flipping expensive by the looks of things. Can't post it, but there's a photo here: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/136/3190096...70a19ca.jpg?v=0
8. Great amp for pub gigs. Bump.
9.
I use partysounds website which is free and has a filter for your area http://www.partysounds.co.uk all the best
+1 on Partysounds. Had good results with that.
10. Oh I'm liking that! Black on black, block inlays and a pre-amp? Where do I sign? Edit: If you don't mind revealing it - how much did all that cost please?
11. Jees - that's a monster! GP11 head will be around 1984/5.
12. Looking cool - can't wait to see it finished/turn up and use it.
13. Westone Thunder 1A (1985) Bought: £150 Would cost now: £331.50 You could buy a new Fender for that!
14.
Picked up my daughter's Encore electric guitar over the break and I've been playing it more than my basses... I've had so much fun going back to stuff I used to do... power chords, blues licks...
Guitar's more fun at home - but I know what I'd rather play at a gig. [s]The drums[/s] Bass, of course!
15. +1 on BBs. Great gigging basses, great neck and good tone. People say the BB414's the one to get. Not sure about that pickguard though!
Couple of questions what are the pickups like on these BB's and can you change the bridge i.e. a swap version like Badass on Fenders without drilling?
Yep you can, the screw holes are the same as a Fender. I swapped the bridge (which is poor) for a Gotoh with no hassle at all.
16.
MB1. Too Late me thinks!.....Whereabouts in the U.K are you?
You can't resist a slapper, can you MB1?
17. Sounds rubbish - venue to be avoided!
18.
WARNING!!! time wasters will be extremely sorry!!!
You tell 'em. Next thing you know, this will turn into a forum where people talk about basses.
19. Not an Ashdown fan either, but it sounds like they treated you well and gave good service. Top marks! Edit: and many of them are ex-Trace Elliot, so double points.
20. Try the bigger stores in city centres - like PMT or Reverb. There are still good local stores around like Andertons in Guildford.
21.
I don't understand (other than the usual age thing) why pre EB's are so coveted.
Like anything, it's part nostalgia. The older ones weren't as well made (some of the later ones were slapped together out of the parts bin when Leo Fender has a big bust up with MusicMan) but people seem to think there's more heritage to them. A bit like old Fenders. Also there's a bit of snobbishness about Ernie Ball taking over and churning them out (albeit to a higher standard). If you pick up a good old one, they often have that 'worn in' feel which makes them better to play but that's true of any bass, I think. In the 80/90s, people apparently sniffed at the poor quality 70s Fenders, now they're coveted as vintage!
22.
Now, this cab is rated at 500watts RMS, so it shouldn't be distorting being played with a peavey probass500 (375watts at 4ohm where i have it with another cab). But I find that when I turn the pre-gain/post-gain above half-way, it distorts like mad, and isn't even very loud.
Sounds like the cab the problem - rather than the head. Rated at 500w, it should be giving you a clean sound whatever the head.
