1. What? You didn't go with TKS or Barefaced.... somethings not right in the world....
2. Not the same person, but I almost got stung by someone else in a similar deal. What p**** me off most was that I had to jump through hoops to setup a bank account in the UK with ID and all but I later found out that you can get a bank account & sort-code for these Western Union-style accounts. Looks completely like a bank account but operates nothing like a bank. The scammer just opens an account, take the payment & close it again with only an email address for ID! Are the 2 sort codes similar? Google them and see what bank comes back. I really do hope the OP gets his money back.
3. I'll throw-in Ashdown as well. Had to use their after care twice and absolutely superb. Once was sending the amp back & got it before the next weekend's gig. Other was a fuse that they just sent to me FOC.
4.
The BF Retro 210's would be a better comparison to the Hartke, and (IMO) the BF would easily be the outright winner.
On what? .... not if it's shiniest looking cones
5. I had the ABM 500 and got a great tone from it, rolled back on the bass a little it gave me a nice punchy tone. never understood why people seem to slate Ashdowns so much. I'd be inclined to give your amp a chance before changing. The new Evo 4 looks good.
6. I don't get it. What can you do on a 4 string that you can't on a 5?
7. Blimmin' eck, I got it right too! Off to buy a lottery ticket.
8. I'd love to try & convince the guys in the band to go for the FR800's although we do play some larger gigs so might have to look at subs as well. I think the problem with BF as well as some of the other "smaller" builders is getting a chance to hear or demo these locally and also getting spares & fix using a local technician. My biggest bother would be pulling £2K on a couple of PA speakers that we couldn't hear beforehand. It's a giant leap of faith!
9. I'm going to be different and say that cab B has the 10's in it. Totally different sound and to me sounds like the cab isn't big enough for the speakers!
10. it's an Ashdown, they'll never get rid of the VU meter as it's their thing. You can turn a 75W amp down so, personally I think they've got it about right. Agree about a grill though, although these may come in the future if the product takes off. I'd probably get a different wood one made to match the room/house furnishings.
11. I would regard Ashdown as premium, certainly with the BTA and CTM range of valve amps and even with the ABM range. A lot of top bands bass players seem to use them too, so can't be that bad.
12. I tend to use virtual machines these days as opposed to dual boot partitions. Anyway back on track, I like the look and functionality of the Ashdown and a one-stop shop seems like a great idea.
13. Haha, like the comments and yes a generalisation on both Apple & Android users. Dont know who ever said I was an Apple fanboy. Again curious to know how that conclusion was drawn?
14. Out of curiosity, if it's not money that you avoid Apple for. Why is it?
15. at £600 an Apple user will accept this for a functional device that looks the business. Android users on the other hand tend to be more cheapskate and think Open Source means they should get stuff for less...
16. With the prospect of getting more Euro's for the pound should I be looking at buying my next piece of gear from a European company rather than UK? 1000 EUR was about £850 last year, this year it's closer to £750. I don't mind supporting my local music shop, but if they don't have (or can't get) what I'm after then what does matter which online store I buy from. Times are tight, so I'd rather have £100 in my pocket. I'd be interested to see what others think.
17. OBBM cables are great and I've also used www.designacable.com completely customised cables with quality components and loads of different colours if that's your thing.
18. I've always had a soft spot for Ashdown, don't ask me why. Guessing it's the fact they are a UK company and that the majority of the bass players in bands I like seem to play these amps live. Owned a couple over the years and always got a great tone from the ABM amps. Anyway, I came across this link today http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Ashdown-ABM-600RC-EVO-IV-Bass-Head/16AO#full-des Anybody know any more? Guessing it's a NAMM release.
19. Hi Happy Jack, only every had one speaker go "farty" on me and that was a long time ago. However, playing in a wedding/function band and picking up the kind of money this type of gig pays then its my opinion that you carry gear to cover any eventuality. 2 "smaller" cabs instead of 1 "larger" cab is an easy way to make sure I always have a backup cab with me. The new Berg CN210 looks good too, but I've started down the Vanderkley route, personally I like the square(r) shape and their red too! Fickle lot us Bass Players.
20. What should I do? I currently play through a pair 2 x GK Neo 112-ii cabs, nice weight (14kg) nice size (19" rack sits nicely on top & they fit perfectly in our trailer) and decent tone. I prefer 2 have 2 cabs as it means if one cab goes I can keep going. Anyway, GAS got the better of me just before Christmas and I "acquired" a Vanderkley 210MNT cab. A bit heavier, a bit taller (actually slightly narrower) and a brilliant tone! I still think I prefer 10" speakers & know there will be the usual suspects telling me a 15" can sound like a 10" but I've still to hear it for myself. Anyway, question is. Can I get opinions & reasons to buy the 2nd Vanderkley and not just sell the first again? I'm only in a wedding/function band so tight stage spaces & easy lifting are priority. Cheers
21. Always wondered about this, do you have to keep a back line for the rest of the band to hear the bass & do you still hear the rest of the band if you don't mic everything up? Sorry to hijack the thread....
22. Oooh, looks great. Now if only Alex would do a Super Compact version with side port & tolex/cloth finish.
23. I've had Schroeder, Ashdown & GK cabs as well as the BF over the last 10 years or so and hardly a mark on any of this other kit? I might just have been unlucky. I've had my current cabs for 3+ years with covers and they still look like new. With regards packing the van (it's a trailer in our case) all the bulk goes on the bottom, including bass cabs unfortunately and the other kit around it. It was actually the flight case for the keyboards that did most damage to the BF, just with some movement during transport.
24. Maybe, I must be old skool where pub gigs were bands driving round the country in a transit.
25. That's all fine, but aren't "pub" gigs where gear is all thrown into a trailer or van? More chance of heavy things then falling on the cab, not the other way around. I'm sure a lightweight cab would bounce of a bass bin but would a bass bin just bounce of a lightweight cab?
