1. It's the main reason I have a 2 cab rig. Currently have two 2x10s but have had two 1x12s in the past. Never actually had a faulty cab but have had a dodgy speakon that meant one cab not working during a gig. Was able to finish the set before hunting out a replacement lead.
2.
With trepidation, and a touch of inspiration from Mr wallbassist, I've ordered 2 new Eich 115XS cabs, which are virtually identical to those Tecamp cabs. Should be here in 2-3 weeks.......
I feel another amp/cab get together coming on....
3. In my opinion it's the Basschat effect. There are people on this forum that read all the articles & want to try out the next great thing, sometimes it's basses but it's typically amps & cabs. The TH has had its 5 minutes of fame and now there's new stuff being talked about. Mesa Subway & Magellan for amps at the mo' and TKS for cabs.
4.
A good heavy amp is good and a good light amp is better than a bad heavy amp, a bad light amp is still better than a bad heavy amp because its lighter to carry!
But is heft>light because if it is then a bad, heavy amp is better than a bad, light amp.
5. I think the fact that yer' fecked after carrying a heavy amp makes you appreciate the tone more.
6.
I don't see why being 'less able' should preclude anyone from doing gigs. I agree that a Class A/B amp weighing 12kg isn't heavy - unless you need to carry it for a considerable distance. It's not always possible to park directly outside a venue, especially in large cities.
Apologies discreet, my last comment was supposed to be a bit tongue in cheek. I thought us bass players were supposed to lug around heavy gear. It's what makes us better than all other musicians. I just moved back from class D back to a hefty amp and more than happy to put up with the extra weight.
7. I think, like some others that there's a compromise. A decent non-Class D amp is still only 12kg or so and lightweight cabs weigh not much more. It's not "micro" but my amp & cabs is still light enough for me and I hope will be for another 10 years at least. I appreciate some fellow BC'ers are much less able but these players should really stick to bedroom playing, I'm not really sure how they manage with a 10lb bass wrapped round there neck for a couple of hours at a time
8. This... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Zon-Sonus-Classic-Standard-5-Black-with-gig-bag-SCB5-/291392894911?hash=item43d85eb7bf:g:6AgAAOSwBLlU72-x
9. Thanks for the replies, I can't replace the strips as I would need to drill out the rivets and then redo them. I don't have that sort of kit, unfortunately. I'm going to try drilling a single hole, punched a guide hole already so keeping my fingers crossed. Unless anyone else has any suggestions. Cheers again for the speedy replies.
10. I've recently acquired a new 2U rack-mount amp. Problem is my current rack has holes cut on each 1U at positions 1 & 3, so nothing cut in the middle hole (why do people do that). The new 2U amp needs fixed at holes in these middle positions so I wondered if I can just drill new holes? Ideally square, so drill & file to fit the rack bolts, but worst case I'd just drill fit normal bolts to the back. Out of curiosity, I thought there was a thread on flight case builders but can't find it. Any suggestions as if the new amp works out, I might treat myself to new "red" flightcase to match the Vanderkley cabs. Cheers.
11. & you really should get a pair of blue shoes too with black laces
12. I've no doubt the S112 would be great in a band environment. Funnily enough when I play with the 5-piece my bass tone becomes very middy to cut through. My only reservation with the little cabs is that I'd rather be able to dial back the bass than not be able to add anymore, if that makes sense.
13. For the record, my 2 x 210mnt fit perfectly in the boot of the A3, enough for them, a 3u flightcase with the amp and space for a lead bag. Parcel shelf on and you'd never know they were in there.
14. First of all, I'd like to thank Deek (deksawyer) for use of his rehearsal space. And a massive thanks to both him & Jose (mcnach) for bringing along some great gear. Like Deek said, all a bit geeky & sad but 3 happy bass players. Not sure what Jose's girlfriend thought of it all. She does play bass too so not a lost cause. I think what came across last night was all the gear, thankfully including my own, sounded top notch. To put things into perspective, I tend to play with a low-mid tone preferring a bit of "honk" in my sound, preferring that to deep, rich lows & crystal highs. I must say that the opinions below are purely my own. We played through each set of cabs (never one on its own) using the Mesa Subway D800, Genz Streamline 900 and MoMark TA800 amps. The TKS 1126 are beautiful looking cabs, even the red vinyl didn't look bad and matched Jose's shoes beautifully. Tone using the Genz and Mesa was scooped to my ears, a clear, defined low & bright highs. Using my own MoMark the tone was closer to the sound I like, more even a bit of mid-bark to them. My amp was set flat at this stage. The TKS S112 again are beautiful looking cabs, I wish I'd worn my blue shoes to match Very light as well. Tone was definitely more mid-setting. Even using the deep switch on Deeks' Mesa amp didn't give me enough lows and I'm not after much. I reckon that the tone from these cabs would sit very well in a band mix with PA support. I wouldn't like to use them without but that's just me. The BF Compact & BB2 weren't so good looking, sorry Jose. However, tone-wise they were very nice. A lot of bottom-end & highs, again a little scooped sounding to my ears. But bringing in a touch of mids sorted this and gave me a lovely tone. Very loud and would be perfect if you didn't have any PA support. The Vanderkley 210MNT were great looking too, size & weight very similar to the 1126 cabs. Tone, I felt was in between the blue & red TKS so more "heft" to the sound but still with the natural mid I like. Sorry guys, but thankfully this was closest to the tone I prefer. Must be the 10's These can definitely go loud as Deeks deep-switch on the Mesa proved. In short, I'd be happy with any of these cabs they all have their pluses. However, thankfully I'm happy with my own cab choice. I was surprised with the tone from the Streamliner, I owned a 600 for about a week and sold it as I never got a usable tone from it. I know Jose has the EQ set all over the place, big Bass cut & highest mid setting but it sounded great. The Mesa was also fantastic and if they did a rackmount-version I'd get it. My Markbass is very mid-sounding in comparison (I know it's not but both Mesa & Genz are bass heavy IMHO) but I'm OK with that and can dial in a bit of extra bass if I need to. And that's my thoughts. I'll let the other guys add their tuppence worth too.
15. The cabs are home, happy to meet at Dek's rehearsal space wherever that may be. Nights are better than weekends.
16. My cabs are in the band lockup but I'm gigging tonight so will bring them home with me. Next gigs not for a fortnight so got a 2 week window if that works for everyone.
17. The OP could always play while sitting in a nice armchair? No need to raise or tilt the cab then and wouldn't even be too tired for the drive home at the end of the gig.
18. Can I ask the weight of the bass? And are these the models that have the 16.5mm spacing or can it be adjusted. Beautiful looking bass by the way.

20. It'll be interesting to hear how you get on mcnach. I'm only across in Fife and have a couple of Vanderkley 210MNT cabs, might be cool to do a wee comparison "shoot out" one day if you fancy a get together. Now that the bridge is open again, not too big a hassle popping across for an hour or two.
21. Wouldn't the standard SS2 have ying yang inlays too? Guessing this is a custom.
22. Cheers Dood, I didn't realise there was a Shuker FB page and will now spend countless hours trawling this too. I'd better start saving! Like 2 isn't enough.
23. I once bought a new 410L cab from Jorg Schroeder and his carpet covering smelled of cherry tobacco smoke. Rumour was that this was the tobacco in the pipe he puffed away on, while covering his cabs.
