1. Forgot to add, I've got photos of the finished article .... I'm just not posting them until I get my grubby mitts on the bass first.
2. Yeah that's fair enough. But ... I should have added that Jon let it sit fully finished for a week before he said he would courier it. That I understood and was happy with :0) So I gave him a week with it settling before he said he'd courier it on the Tuesday, i.e. a week and a day ago. That I'm no so happy with :0(
3. OK, here's my first moan about Jon. Sorry ! My bass has now been ready for the last week, maybe a bit more. For whatever reason Jon hasn't sent it. I've paid him in full and there's always a reason why it's not been delivered. Was supposed to be last Monday, but because he takes Monday holidays it was Tuesday. No bass, so phoned on Thursday and Jon says the Courier is booked for Friday. Phone Friday and the road is closed so no pickup. Phone on Monday, shop closed so phone yesterday and courier booked to pickup today. Bottom line is, I've waited more than 7 months on a 12-13 week build and it's taking more than a week just for a courier pickup. Am I just too nice on the phone, I always tell Jon it's no hassle and just to send the bass when he's ready. I know he's busy blah! blah! Looks like my build always gets moved to the bottom of the pile. Sorry for the rant.
4. Nah, 6 months is nothing although quoted time was 12 weeks. I waited a year for my Sei with a quoted time of 6 months, so it's all relative. Come to think of it, yeah I am a gibbering wreck... Nordstrand pickups were about a 6 week delivery I think, but I had hoped he'd order with plenty time to spare. I'm guessing he had to wait until the latest shuttle launch to gather some stardust for my sparkles, cannae think of any other reason ;0) S
5. Mine was supposed to be shipped yesterday, so I might get mine today :0) 6 months from ordering.
6. Hahahahahaha you forgot to change your avatar ..... oh & that's a stunning looking bass by the way ....
7. This isnae fair ... I emailed Jon on Monday and he reckons mine will be another week or two. He said it was finished, he'd done the scratchplate but he still had to do the wiring, levelling the frets and set up to do. Have I already mentioned that this isnae fair ...

*edit*

Get one of those auto-mute cables from our very OBBM They do just what they say on the tin, pull out the cable and it auto mutes itself, no pops or anything. So simple, yet brilliant ! S
9. Yeah me too .... everybody after me .... What do we want? A Shuker Jazz. When do we want it ? Now ! What do we want? A Shuker Jazz. When do we want it ? Now ! What do we want? A Shuker Jazz. When do we want it ? Now ! What do we want? A Shuker Jazz. When do we want it ? Now !
10. Blimmin eck, very nice MikeB ... just shows you don't need fancy facings for wood to look good ... Mines at the same stage as well so we've got a 3-way race to the finish line. Jon was cutting my scratchplate yesterday apparently so it can't be too long before he calls asking for his money. Just checked back the emails and it was 10 April so 6 months wait for my bass ! Flippin 'eck I was quoted 12 weeks or so.
11. He said he's been lacquering my bass last week and this week, finished now and waiting on it curing before a final polish at the end of the week.
12. So the race is on .... There seems to be 3 or 4 Shukers in their final stages and it'll be interesting to see who gets theirs quickest. Pics required to prove it ;0) Mine is, I reckon a couple of weeks away yet as the sparkle finish meant Jon had to use a different lacquer and more coats of it so it's another week or so over schedule. Buga ! Anybody had close to the 14 weeks quoted before ordering ? Mines been at least 6 months I reckon, probably more. S
13. Never tried the Audere but I've had the OBP-3 and the J-Retro Deluxe in similar basses In my opinion the J-Retro does colour the sound more than the Aguilar preamp but in a good way. That's why I've settled for the J-Retro as my preamp of choice. I found the OBP-3 added a lot of boost to the bass volume so whenever I added bass I had to cut back on volume. The East circuit doesn't do that, it just add bass. Beautiful tone from it too.
14. Yeah, I was actually thinking the red blocks would have stood out better with a maple board myself when designing it. However, a Candy Red Jazz bass with matching headstock MUST have a rosewood board. Have you not read the Jazz owners manual ? S P.S. Can anybody show me a picture of a CAR Jazz bass with matching headstock AND maple board ?
15. Hehehe, she's all red & sparkly now .... Jon's said that the colour is slightly darker than is shown on the pics, probably more a dark(ish) Candy Apple Red He's also advised we wait a week or so for the laquer to harden then it's on with the wet look glossy finish and I guess then the hardware. This pic was sent last Monday night so hoping things will be finished in the next fortnight ;-)
16. As much as I'm happy with my Ashdown ABM 500 I'm still never completely happy. Some people call it GAS !!! So, anyone own, or used an Aguilar AG500SC amp and got opinions on it. How does it sound ? Would it match my Schroeder cab ? How might it compare to my Ashdown ? Cheers, Stephen.
17. That's what I meant Bass Ferret. If you're after a cabinet that's light & portable then that's different but of all the cabs I've tried, none give me the low-mid bump like the schroeder does, not lightweight anyway.
18. Just seen the Sei website at £2995, 15% of £2000 ain't £995 unless my calculator's bust .... but have a free bump ... Beautiful bass by the way, just one string too many for me.
19. Schroeder alternative ? IMHO there isn't any ... sorry
20.
I can tell you that Sei's break down a lot and McIntyres don't
Have to disagree with you on this quote. Other than James Leech's Sei bass, and I'm not sure what problems he's had. I haven't heard anyone else have their Sei break down on them. I'm happy to be set straight though ! S
21. Hi Russ What's the difference between this and the LMK II ? If TheRev fails to deliver I may be interested. Cheers Stephen
22. Yep Peted, the necks going to be glued in place. More neck-thru than bolt on. Jon's also going to install the low battery circuit that John East has designed, probably on the back near the battery compartment. See the post in the J-East section of the forum.
23. OK, having sold one of my Sei Jazz basses and the 20% hike on Sei's prices I've opted to go with Jon Shuker for my next bass build. Been a while in progress, more than the 12 weeks quoted but the Nordstrand pickups have held things up by a few weeks. Anyway, for those that's interested here's the specs and some build pictures too. The whole idea is a Jazz bass to match the drummers red sparkle Mapex kit. That's show business ! Shuker Jazz 5 string in traditional styling 34" scale 21 frets Maple set neck with rosewood fingerboard and block inlays Red side LEDS Nordstrand Big Single pickups Shuker 3-band EQ with active/passive switch Red Sparkle finish with matching headstock Vintage White scratchplate Chrome hardware I also asked Jon for a Fodera-style neck join as I want an oil finished neck but a painted body and I thought this would look good. See the pics ;-) Fingerboard ... Body ... Body & Neck Join ... And that's all for now. The pickups arrived on Wednesday and Jon was going to be doing more routing then and prepare for finishing. I'll post more pics when I get them. Until next time .....
24. Just picked up on this thread. I always wonder why so many name players, especially in a band play Ashdown gear. Some of these guys can get any endorsement they like, so why Ashdown ? The Who (past tense), U2, Foo Fighters, Oasis etc. ! By the way my ABM EVO 500 RC II is great.
25. Hi Chris You've no chance with the pickups record ! That honour goes to Mr Derek Smalls of Spinal Tap fame, Burning Earth Bass S
