Back in our comfort zone after the hiccup last year. 2nd from last in the sack race 🤣

I've heard hints of Life on Mars and Design for life so far. But I guess if there are only eleven notes....it happens. Now heard them all, has to be Belgium for me. Only one with a hook that was seemingly written to be accessible to a large audience immediately. All the others, self indulgent minor key Eurocrap.

How old were you when you did your first gig?

Great number, What's going on. Used to open with that in one band I was in. Still have the Album somewhere (On the boards) -

16 years old, in the Mildmay tavern, North London. We were going to get £15 That is, until we were told to leave after the first set as we refused to play "Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner" at 10.15 which was the landlords way of telling the punters it was last orders. We refused because we were a rock band, although the real reason was because we had no idea how to play it as we were s h I t😂 We were called LION and here is that band ( me on the left, 1968. -
A grand? Wow, cod and chips for two at Rick Steins!!

Don't see it as a problem as I don't sit there just looking at the top of the page. Once you scroll down and start reading stuff, it disappears up above.

Anyone playing at Bodelwellyn castle this weekend?
leschirons replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
We're at the Warner's hotel in the castle. (Wife's 70th birthday) and that's what's on. Seems a bit weird then going out somewhere else to see a band as I guess I've sort of paid to see these ones already😄 -
Damn, I was just about to start a thread on the 10 most important threads😭

We're staying here till Monday. Be nice if there was BCer on the bill. Covers band called Viva and a Fleetwood Mac tribute. Go your own way.

Okay, Here we have a Conn alto (called a shooting star due to the bell engraving) These don't generally have the greatest reputation if you're into saxophones however, this one, does not conform to the usual opinion. It's got a great warm and rounded tone, blows superbly, no leaks, pads not that old by the looks of it. Comes with a Conn flight case, a Yamaha 4c mouthpiece and lig and some cork grease and a strap. A great starter sax that will also hold it's own on gigs. NOT the usual Conn starter level instrument. I guess this was the one that got built before they all clocked off for the first round of Tequilas. No real issues except a few age related marks and one screw missing from the lower guard (pic 4) It's £175 which is not a lot for a well usuable alto. Postage no problem or try out, and pick up near Swaffham. Tea/coffee/biscuits supplied. Thanks for looking.

Bought an alto sax from S'manth for my brother (not a member) Fantastic packing job, great deal, instrument as described. Delivered when expected. Five star service all round. Highly recommended. Great seller.

I seem to remember a period (80's?) When bass players and drummers found themselves pretty much redundant for studio work due to the advent of programming. I also remember the next big thing which was software that added the "human feel" back into tracks as they sounded too manufactured. I've always played in front of the beat and I'm aware that I do it. Not saying it's right, or good and try as I may, can't change but eventually, it seems to become integral to the sound that the band has. On the other hand, I suppose it could be any one, or more, of the technical possibilities that have been proffered.

Yes, exactly that. Super stable, but heavy. Apart from a proper bridge, all the rest was odds and sods. -

From memory, the only thing that survived the accident was the neck. The framework I recall, was created by the owner and his Dad. It worked, and funnily enough, sounded like a double bass. -
A few years ago (about 5 I think) I bought, what was later to be called the "Frankenbass" from a BC member (Bloop dad) A superb vision of creativity and feat of engineering resulting from, (if I remember correctly) a vehicle / double bass related issue. I had bought it with a view to learning but also as a bit of a quirky statement. I loved it although It seemed at the time that not many others shared my enthusiasm. Fast forward a couple of years and it was usually then described as my "art installation" In 2021, after settling back in the UK in Norfolk, I decided to sell it as I had a further two EUBs and so, it was sold via Facebook to a lovely young lady called Sophie who weighed approximately half of the weight of the Frankenbass and who also loved and "got the quirkiness" Was it doomed to be forever a conversation piece? No it wasn't. Attached are a few pics. Ranging from my purchase, a first live gig with the new owner, to getting tried out by an old pal of hers (yes, it really is him) and the new make over to give it a more modern appearance and now being played live at least once on a weekly basis. Sorry to bore you all but I just love it when things, particularly instruments which seemed to have stalled, get the chance to continue their journey. I was in an Essex band called Midlife Crisis (South Woodham Ferrer's) at that time, there was even a website dedicated to bands with that name. There were 43 bands registered😂

Well, if I pass Wednesday's audition, I will be a member of " Lady & the tramps" covers band doing stuff by Bonnie Raitte, Samantha Fish, Kelly Clarkson, Sheryl Crow etc. If I don't get it, I'll still be a member of Dereham indoor bowls club which is not really a band as it's a bowls club.

Just a stab in the dark but is there a possibility that the name of band 3, and the term "no gigs" are connected in any way?
