  1. Wow, thanks Douglas. That should get me sorted (and the French version will help me brush up after 2 years) Thank you so much. Much appreciated.
  2. I have Cubase Lite (version about 3 years old) which I believe will function with the M-Audio. However, I don't know if my current Mac OS (Yosemite) will support it. Thanks for the info and advice.
  3. I've been given an M-Audio Projectmix 1/0. I says it connects to my old iMac via a Firewire cable. Thing is, it appears there are different ones (4 pin, 6 & 9 pin) so, does anyone use one of these? (or shall I bin it?) There's no manual, and the M-Audio site doesn't list it in the manuals section. Any help on how I can, or should, connect this up would be appreciated. It does power up so I'm thinking it may be worth a try. Thanks.
  4. As title says, bit rusty on the bit you're going to cut off anyway. Never fitted. 45-105 Phosphor bronze acoustic bass set. I had to enter a price so the £2.00 is simply the postage. Strings FOC. So, if you have an acoustic bass and want just to see what these feel like (probably sound okay anyway) Happy to hand them over. Alternatively, if Jon from (Weston Super Mare?) wants them for his charity thing, PM me.
  5. Bridge for J or P bass. Brand new. It's a cheapy clone I guess. Screws still in bag, Lines up perfectly with the units on my J bass and my P.bass 5 holes at back, 2 at front. £6 sounds about right and I reckon a couple of quid to post if you're not in a hurry.
  6. Seriously cool Menorm AP1 acoustic pick up. Made in Japan and working perfectly. From around the mid 60's according to t'internet. I popped this on to one of my acoustics this morning and ran it through a Marshall AS80 and also my Genz bass rig. it sounds surprisingly nice with a really well rounded tone. Warm, but with enough top to cut through a mix. Takes a mini jack. Fits any acoustic sound hole above 90mm diameter. No pitting on the chrome and generally in lovely condition. So, if you want that old school folk club look, this is for you. Pick up welcome (see what I did there?) or P=P about £3 I'm guessing.
  7. Thanks, Taken 11 months to get and start, his medication. 😒
  8. Been looking for a bass for our son who got diagnosed with M.S. a year ago. Well, anything to keep his stress levels down so started looking on here and Facebook for something cheap and local. Had one on Face book lined up to view about 8 miles away, a Squier VM jazz at just a little suspiciously too cheap. Checked out the main profile, nothing music related whatsoever, just two pictures of a dog on a beach. Can I come to his friend's house? Blew that one out. Found another (see pic) 30 mins away. It's a bitsa, Wilkinson bridge and pickups, possibly Gotoh gold tuners, and an old logo'd up 37mm nut neck. Apparently, all on an MIM refinished body. It was playable, but needed 20 mins of graft to improve it. We agreed on £180 before viewing. Over the years, I've had a total of 5 USA jazz basses including one custom luthier built instrument with the best of everything on it. Although this doesn't compare with the custom one, it knocks the stock Fenders into a corner for playability. A neck oil, a quick tweak on the saddles and a slight recut of the E nut slot and this is up there with any US Fender I've owned. Going to be hard to give this away.
  9. I'd never heard of this before. Now having read up on it via the provided link, I see it states that the process commences by examining and discussing your playing style. Well, as long as they have a s h i t setting, I may well give it a go😉

  11. Yes, America is a fantastic piece. Forgot to mention that one. Damn, I've got the Nice version stuck in my head now😆
  12. Went to Sandringham Royal park the other night to see an open air cinema viewing of West Side Story (the remake) Not that impressed with the casting but those songs!! Bernstein was the man for what has to be one of the greatest scores in history and, despite a bit of messing around with the running order, had 89 year old original cast member Rita Moreno as a new character, actually singing There's a place. Apparently, live on the set. Despite me playing rock, Blues, funk and Pop for most of the last 40 years, I couldn't help but be impressed by this stuff. I'd simply forgotten how great they were. Tonight, Maria, There's a place, Cool etc. Sondheim's lyrics also of course but that music. Wow. Trouble is, when you hear Maria and There's a place, you can't NOT hear Proby singing them. Still, a great evening.
  13. Weight is of no importance other than what feels comfortable. Regarding tone, we're just bass players. We stand at the back going boomp boomp boomp and nobody in the audience cares if we live or die😉
  14. Vintage guitars will, in my opinion continue to be sought after. Of course, there are players who insist that this or that 1965 whatever sounds and and plays better than a new one, but people simply like to own stuff that others don't or can't. You can buy a waterproof watch for £19.99 that keeps infinitely better time than any Rolex yet, if folks have the money, they will happily pay £10,000 for a 30 year old tatty GMT and risk having their arm chopped off for it on a Saturday night in town. The reason my reply has quoted this one is down to the referenced example of a 73 Strat which I found interesting as there was a time when only pre CBS was the main interest. The 70s period instruments were considered bad quality crap however, now all the pre CBS stuff is safely locked away with investment bankers or in Joe Bonamassa's bedroom, stuff like 70s Strats have become the new vintage purely, because that's what's left to buy. At some point, it'll be 80s Strats no doubt.
  15. The worst bass solo in history was mine. I got a one off gig with a (relatively) known french guitarist at a huge Fete de musique venue. We had one rehearsal, without him, 2 days before the gig. All numbers I hate due to him wanting to be Jimi Hendrix (as is usual in France) I stated, no bass solos. So, halfway through the mind numbingly boring Hendrix version of Wild thing at it's usual pacey 5BPM, he shouts "bass solo" and walks off stage to have a fag. Couldn't think of anything to do with it so, not wanting to stand there like a lemon, got the drummer pick it up and launched into Another one bites the dust, much to the displeasure of wannabe Jimi 😆
  16. Marcus Miller last night. Brilliant as usual. Reminds me that there's so much more to being a great player than just technique. He's actually producing numbers whilst playing them. All those little nods and winks to drop a solo in on keys or trumpet, changes in the groove and whole atmosphere of the number is being decided as he's playing. Top band with Anwar Marshall on drums, what a drummer. All in all, great gig apart from not being fantastic value for money. No reflection on MM, but £100 for 65 mins? I don't care what's on your C.V. No-one is worth that. But, I guess Ronnie's only holding a tiny audience means a high ticket price.
  17. Unless he uses your kit for rehearsals🤭 I'm intrigued about the trade options seeing as you only seem to own basses with a minimum of 56 strings😆
  18. Ps, the Turkish ride looks as though it has a bit missing but that's a shadow from the adjoining cymbal. No keyholing or cracks in any cymbals. Any further pics required, just PM.
  19. Not France any more😆 We're living in Swaffham now but funnily enough, coming to Harold Wood Wednesday morning so clear a space😆
  20. Now sold. A Jazz bass. I have a 5 but missing a 4 string (MIM + some dosh etc) A dive watch, not fussed about it being immac, it's to wear. (Something like a Longines Hydro, an Oris Aquis or a Certina DS. Poss cash your way if need be) Ludwig Breakbeats Questlove 4 pce kit in Azure finish, in very nice condition. Includes the mounted tom arm and the soft covers which also act as mutes if you need to. Bass drum has new EMAD system head and includes a spare muffler. Three boom cymbal stands, snare stand, hi-hat stand (these kits don't include hardware) Closed hi-hat mount (next to tom holder in pic) 1 x DW5000 (1st gen) double pedal. 1 x 20" Paiste Alpha ride 1 x 20" Turkish Classic ride 1 Pr Paiste 14" hi-hats 1 Pr Turkish 14" classic hi-hats 1 x Zildjian K Custom 16" Dark crash 1 x Zildjian 15" crash (repaired, but fabulous sound) 1 x Paiste 101 16" crash 1 x Paiste 18" O-zone trash. Cymbal case, stick case. A load of spare heads inc 2 x Silent strokes. Second-hand value on the cymbals is approximately £450 so I'm pricing this whole lot at £675 firm. This makes the kit, hardware, double pedal, cymbal and stick cases and spare heads about £225. Obviously collection only from Swaffham or meet up within 15 miles from here. Not really looking for trades but as I've decided to stick to stringed instruments, (bass and guitar) it's worth a PM. You never know.
