I was in a party/ function band in the 90s for about eight years. We had quite a few Police numbers under our belt and one night the vocalist, during introductions shouted ..and on bass, Spam. And so, I became Spam.

Me too, both parcels had unbreakable Gorilla tape handles that wrap right round a couple of times. I even write "Handle" on the handle😅

We lived in France for 17 years and never had a problem with La Poste. Great compared to the cowboys we have to use here. I guess that's a geographical issue though. We were in the Limousin, an agricole heavy region so probably far less problems than in the big cities. Our french postie used to fetch and drop off medical prescriptions, collect an elderly neighbour's shopping and even stopped and changed a wheel for my wife.

P.bass now delivered and apparently in one piece. Buyer happy. That's the important bit. Now on hold to Royal mail to see if they can confirm the combo is actually where they say it is (and has been for 10 days) No doubt I'll be cut off before they answer.

I sold a P bass to Adrian. Very prompt payment and when things went absolutely pear shaped courtesy of Parcelforce, he was most understanding and patient whilst I sorted things out. Nice friendly BCer.

Sold two items here, 1; EBS Session combo. Service Xpress 48. Currently resting in Chorley, Lancs PFW hub, where it's been for 10 days with no further movement (assuming it is actually there and not in the local cash converters or a bin, in pieces) Just refunded the buyer having initiated a claim. 2; P.bass. Service Xpress 24, dropped off at local Post office, tracking had no movement at all. Popped back to local post office yesterday and guess what? it was still there after 5 days. Apparently, ParcelForce hadn't been to collect anything for nearly a week !! At what point was I actually going to find out or be told? After much wrangling and proof providing, they gave it back to me and I took it to a main office yesterday afternoon. Tracking now says "Delivery today" Luckily, I'd sold on BC where folks are understanding but it's still embarrassing. You really can't make this shit up.

Has he actually asked what you think or, are you worried that he might? If he's already asked, how was it left? It's not really clear in the post. I have been in this situation and when my opinion was sought, I said, (laughing) I'd never ask that question in case I got an answer I didn't like. My friend then expanded a little and explained why he'd asked, he was totally aware that there were problems in his band and was actually looking for confirmation. Then, I could be honest.

I'm not really sure what constitutes a boutique bass. Is it just a very expensive instrument from somewhere other than one of of the big name big quantity manufacturers? Is a Fodera a boutique bass? They seem to make quite a few as there's usually two or three for sale on here or, are boutique basses made for an individual?

I've depped loads over the years but usually for bands that had mates in and that I'd seen play on occasion. I've never been a pro musician, I was, in my opinion, never good enough for that so, I'd agree to play just to get their problem sorted and then happily take whatever money they offered me after the gig. Takes a lot of pressure off when you don't need the money for a mortgage or food. It was mainly classic rock or Blues so I had the advantage of being relatively old as I'd either played, or was just familiar with 95% of the material. I loved it. A real buzz for me depping. Had a few Blues deps where no setlist was provided, not even on the night. Vocalist would just shout the next number and guitarist would give me the nod for the key and hope the drummer would signal any stops. Loved it.

As far as I can recall, I've never, in 57 years of gigging, come across this problem/situation in a band scenario. Could that be that we, unbeknown to ourselves, all shared the same views and mindset? Could it be that the gig was the most important issue so conversations of that type never happened? Could it be that I was never on the lookout for new "besties" but simply people to play good music with? Who knows, however, I have come across plenty of people who have a dislike of the elderly and who have, either directly kept me out of a band or guided my decision to not join a band.
