  1. None really. Played probably a thousand gigs over 55 years, played with some great players, made some great friends and quite a few quid without having the pressure of relying on it to keep a roof over my head or put food on the table. However, selling the Roscoe Beck was a big mistake.😂
  2. Think Stan the man is still gigging.👍
  3. Isn't there a tad of irony in your first paragraph given the title of the thread? Especially the last four words😉 That translates to "It'll do for now but I'm sure there's something better out there"😂
  4. The greatest guitarist for me personally, Is the one that DOESN'T, constantly widdle in between numbers, or play far too loud at rehearsals or demand that everything gets done in keys that avoid an Eb chord.
  5. Got in with a local covers band recently and noticed "It's my life" on their set list (Talk Talk, not BJ) great bass on this, so, learnt it about three weeks ago and the song's been stuck in my head ever since. Mind you, there's worse stuff to have as an earworm😂
  6. I thought I was better than I actually was. I'm basically lazy and these days tend to learn stuff at the last minute. I think I'm an asset to a band but not particularly to the art of bass playing. Back in France, I was in a hugely popular band (departmentally speaking) where other bands even struggled to get gigs if up against us. I played with some great musicians there and was quite in demand however, there's always a possibility of " big fish in a small pond" syndrome which I think, led me to believe I was better than I actually was. I get the impression now, that my popularity was more down to stage confidence due to a huge amount of gig experience which rubs off on others and makes the show more successful, an ability to busk a lot of stuff, and a vocal ability, be it lead or BVs. I'm now recently back in a covers band here in in Norfolk and can probably name a dozen other local bassists who are far better than me despite my 40 odd years of playing bass.😂
  7. Sorry to hear this. It's a real bummer. Hope yours gets sorted soon. I have arthritis in both thumb joints too as well as the tendonitis.
  8. Donna Summer with McArthur Park. I know a lot of people don't like the original either but it was a masterpiece of composition and production.
  9. Just for old times sake, went to see Wishbone Ash last night. Didn't know what to expect as it was only Andy Powell left out of the original lineup. Really pleasantly surprised. He's surrounded himself with three excellent players who've really done their homework. Great mix, lovely venue (the Apex in Bury St Edmonds) and they gave the audience exactly what they wanted. The other guitarist had what I'd call the best ever sound possible from one P90 pickup. All numbers played to the original version. £30 well spent.
  10. First off, lovely looking bass. I play an Elwood 5a with La Bellas with a 135 B string. Action is Rizla low with no buzz anywhere so, you should have no problem achieving what you need.
  11. Yup, we're off to see some old prog rockers in September and that was the first question I asked.😂
  12. This wouldn't happen at a Wishbone Ash gig, that's for sure.
  13. One can only assume she's aware of it even if not actually her decision. Unfortunately, there will be fans who still think it's value for money.
  14. It was read out to me by our daughter, who's also not into Beyoncé.
  15. Seems that Beyoncé wants $155 for tickets to hear, but not see her perform. The seats have no view as they're behind the stage but you'd be able to hear her so... that'll be $155 please. Cheapest seat with some sort of view, albeit probably on a screen...$300. Can't help thinking that we're just so lucky to have people like this to entertain us.
  16. Sold John some wall hangers and messed up the P+P and despite it being down to me (obviously) he was kind enough to add the extra postage. Top guy.
  17. The best Jazz I ever owned was a Roscoe Beck. However, it didn't have Jazz pickups, it had toggle switches, it had graphite rods, it had a hi mass bridge so in reality, it wasn't a Fender Jazz. I've no idea why I said that. You know, hmm, dirty knees, jumpers for goalposts, " is tea ready mummy?"
  18. Who's idea was it? In my experience, whenever someone says "maybe you and I can get together and work on that a bit" it usually means that one person, isn't happy with what one other person is doing. You'll either end up addressing, but not necessarily sorting the problem, (possibly risky) or spend three hours delicately sidestepping it. Good luck though, in principle, a good idea.
  19. Bought an effects pedal from Patrick as a present for a family member. Good deal. Nice guy.
  20. Bought a bridge from Loz, great to deal with, great price and great packing. Genuinely nice chap.
  21. Norm bought some books from me. Nice and easy to deal with, prompt payment
  22. Squier Bronco, 30" think the colour is called Torino red. Had the bridge changed like the newer ones but the original two bridge piece one is included. Plays nice, holds tuning well, weighs about as much as a Richmond sausage, ridiculously light. This is an Indonesian one, not Chinese. Sounds great, could do with a set up and a real set of shortscale strings. Truss rod not seized, and fully working. Comes with a not great gig bag. Belongs to a mate's daughter who's lost interest hence, I've been handed it to sell. Play as is or mod for a project. Actually quite surprised how easy these are to play. Anyway, there it is. They're about £160 new so £90 seems fair. Pick up from Swaffham area or can post at buyers expense and responsibility.
  23. Three books. Jaco, by Bill Milkowski (with the CD) 17 Watts, by Mo Foster Jazz in perspective, the background of the Blues, by Iain Lang (1950s?) All in good condition Can post if required, probably about £4 for UK as 2kgs
  24. Nine wall hangers, the type that's marked "UP" Left over from the days when it wasn't unusual for me to have 25 guitars and basses. They swivel so as your Fender head stocks don't dictate a wonky display 😅 One, has one rubber sleeve missing. £20 collected or £29 posted UK.
