1. Shame that such a legend has gone. To be honest, I was never impressed with his playing but really loved his voice. RIP.
2. Bought a Vocaliser from Colin. Really prompt to send goods off and great comms. Nice guy to deal with. Very amenable.
3. Just picked this up on Evilbay. Got it today and spent a couple of hours changing strings cleaning the fretboard and setting up the Floyd. I love a bit of pointy head-stock. What a sound through my 40 watt all tube combo. Rings as clear as a bell on clean and really dirty on the HB with tons of harmonics. 5 way switch but my fave is the neck / middle position. Gives a real funky Nile Rodgers sound. Love it. Just need a wig and some Spandex now.
4. Why do loads of bands of 50 years + musos think that "Dodgy Prostate" or "Midlife Crisis" are clever names?
5. The fact that it's got the word "Dartford" in the name should give you a clue as to what it's likely to be like A quality venue if ever there was one.
6. I have no knowledge of Bass Direct but best bring this up with the shop first rather than risk someone possibly getting the wrong idea about them on here.
7. My first instinct was to call the lot of you a bunch of really sad bastards and would have except that my 88 Japanese pointy headstock Floyd loaded Charvel with Seymour Duncans (original pickups included) is now at the distribution centre LOL
8. Are you talking solo act or a band?
9. Not for me, but interesting. Totally changing a song is fine but they haven't done the song any favours. They're obviously a good band but it's like doing a jazzy version of Whole lotta love. You completely lose what the song sets out to do. Thanks for posting though.
10. Well, it's just finished and been re-listed so I guess the answer was no
11. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151632704311?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
12. The only reason it hasn't sold is because "Binkybass" on here hasn't seen it As an aside, do you think it would be any good for metal?
13. Ask if it was any good for metal
14. Just had a nice little Zoom effects pedal from Gaf. Great to deal with as usual. Efficient, great comms and friendly. Nice guy.
15. Well the artistes wouldn't be artistes without the genuine fans and wouldn't have any worthwhile future without you so I think I'd choose that route. Actually contact them and the labels and make them aware of what's happening. You never know, a few of them may just care about the genuine people who follow them.
16.
Just seen some Clapton tracks listed, so feeling brave (but will still put the tin hat on and hide) - Layla, esp that Allman drivel at the end, it's just an horrendous racket! Right, I'm off......
You're not alone.
17.
Should have gone to spexavers
Ooops yes you're right. I must have been too focused on his choice of carpet
18. So what happens if someone does the buy it now deal and he's already got bids on an auction with no reserve listed? 19. I don't have the ears to be able to tell the difference but maybe that's because I know what tone I like and get it anyway by twiddling knobs.
20. I'll be gear sharing on Saturday night. However, it's with the same band we always share with and it works both ways whenever we're on the same bill. They're probably the only ones we would share with though as they are all friends. Re the gig. Nightmare scenario as mentioned, everyone sods off after their mates' band / daughter's dance troupe / or in our case last time "La science d'accordéons" has been on. Despite all these negative points though, I would be uncontrollably drawn towards wanting to see the singer song writer who's intending to hold people's interest with his "journey of depression over the years" just so I can wait for a dramatic lull in his repetoire, look around and shout out "Anyone fancy a pint?"
21. I just remembered how much I hate "I don't like Mondays"
22. Did Alex " thecheesemaster" James need to be there? Is he skint? Probably not. His bass came over fine sound-wise but the song was a total crap 3 chord bash and multi-millionaire Damon Albran looked like he hadn't washed for a month and couldn't afford a dentist. Now I really do sound like my Dad did.
23.
Just hit it with a heavy book and it'll go away.
What book would be best? A novel or factual?
24. Make sure you have transport and good gear, preferably reliable. As mentioned, learn all the classic covers if it's covers / pub bands you're going after. Get your name about as previously mentioned and don't give anyone a hard time. Alternatively, offer to pick up the lead singer and the P.A. on the way. That way, you don't even have to be any good
