The Bottom 40 cover is an example of great musicianship, unfortunately, it's also a great example of "less is more" They've completely lost the point of the song in that the original really does want to make you dance and be happy. But, thanks for posting. Nice to hear some good players at any time.

I don't think the seller is a dealer as such as this is on Gumtree too. Seller is in Aberdeenshire and also has a pushchair, kitchen table, bathroom cabinet and child's slippers up for sale. Give him a chance to explain the "we" before sentence is passed. The "we" could mean him and his Mrs. Just my opinion

This is the one that really comes to mind for me. Jack Lancaster's prog production of Peter and the wolf. Used to play this a lot. Judging by the list below, he had a rather well connected phone book.
I remember buying his 'Nothing Rhymed' single back in 1970-ish and he was pretty big around that time. Last I heard he had an expensive legal run-in with his management company and he seemed to disappear for many years. Glad to hear he's still around.
From what I remember, the legal run-in was only expensive for his old management. I seem to recall he won about 6 million over royalties. Hence, moving to Jersey.

Go West..remember them....tidy basslines...Pino?
leschirons replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
Great band. No idea who was on bass but it was the late great Alan Murphy on guitar I believe. Saw them some years ago on one of those weird 80's revival gigs supporting Tony Hadley (not as his backing band) They were brilliant. -

11062 (age 64) Sounds about right as it's pretty similar in range to when my wife is telling me to finish the utility room tiling.

Anyone got, or tried a Vintage Gordon Giltrap sig electro acoustic?
leschirons replied to leschirons's topic in Guitars
I've got one of the GG signature 12-strings and it is actually very nice! The neck, compared to my Washburn Cumberland 12-string is quite slim (or maybe the Washburn is quite fat!) and is very playable, the fretboard has a decent radius that makes it quite easy to fret barre chords all the way up the neck, and it's possible to get the action quite low without losing too much tone and incurring rattles and buzzes. I'm not too impressed with the plugged sound, but I have that issue with most electro-acoustics. However as I only use it at home or for recording, this isn't a major problem, and the pickup and eq system is quite flexible, so maybe I'm just not spending enough time to really find a sweet spot.
Only just noticed your reply. Thanks for taking the time. Funnily enough, I've been using Washburns myself (6 string) An old 80's Festival and one of the little known Millennium 2000 models but really need to retire them both and was really looking something a little louder unplugged than the Washburns which both have slim bodies. From what you say, maybe the neck isn't as chunky as people make out and that was really my only concern. I'm back in the UK at the end of March so may well try and source one to try then. Thanks again for your reply. -
Just heard. Sad news. And apart from a run in with the tax-man, seems to have kept his nose clean over his whole career too. RIP.

Whatever happened to the cronos bass?
leschirons replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
Are we talking about Cronos from Venom?
I wouldn't want to play one of his basses in case he hadn't been wearing underpants. Puts a whole new twist on buckle rash. -
I'm confused. The only way this can happen is if you are playing 8 bars over the same chord. Otherwise you have to go back to the first bar as soon as he starts his solo. Unless he realises and comes in on the second bar and plays the changes with you. This is a situation where your theory comes into play. If you're playing the same chord you just have to watch him for his cue to say he's finished. He'll give the cue subconsciously even if you haven't agreed one. Or am I misunderstanding?
It's a hypothetical situation. Lets assume he's playing over the riff to Rocking in the free world then (3 chords Em D C but the trio repeat 8 times)
Not so imaginary in my case, and all the more troubling as I'm the drummer..! These 'senior moments' crop up on odd occasions; I have to bear the mild approbation from the others and try to turn my inappropriate fill or ending into some sort of sense and get back to the essentials. Doesn't happen often, but too often for comfort. Blast this advancing age..!
Don't beat yourself up over this, it will only ever be the guitarist's fault. Everything is always a guitarist's fault. Late solos, out of tune instruments, sloppy performances, taking the wrong gig, vehicle breakdowns and even all the problems in the Middle East. I play guitar in another band sometimes and I've been blamed for everything because it's never their fault. Trust me, I know.
-
This is just out of curiosity due to the subject coming up at a rehearsal. You're on stage, for whatever reason, the guitarist starts an 8 bar solo, a bar late. Do you, Go back into the song after he's widdled for 8 bars or go back into the song after 8 bars from when he should have started? I've had this situation occur a few times over the years and the outcome has usually depended on whether the solo is a well known "set in stone" affair or not, and the on-stage communication abilities of the band and luckily, never ended in a car crash (so far )

I leave Basschat signed in on every device in the house so it probably looks like I have nothing else to do. I tend to look at the stuff for sale most days and if I really have nothing to do, look for any threads that stand out enough to take my interest. There are times where I don't look for days and I guess when those periods get longer and longer until you don't bother at all, you've sort of left.

I did a few of gigs like this last year. We have a sort of unofficial rule whereas the "mates" of the client who want to offer mates rates usually play for less so the other non-mate members get their usual cut. Works for us.

And he still wants 25 quid postage to the Channel Islands?? That's just being unreasonable.

The really funny thing about this is that the seller states that Justin Hawkins has apparently been added to the top 100 all time great guitarists
Absolutely.... what's £24,000 between friends..? And the fact that a Genuine 1960 stack-knob Jazz would cost, in a retail environment, £18,000 at the very most? I think it would be a shrewd investment on your part.
Definitely. And all I'd have to do then, would be change the scratch plate, route out the body, buy some jazz pickups, get a 61 Jazz bass logo on it (Ebay 5 quid) et voila.
-
Wow, these early Jazz basses certainly do look a lot like Precisions. Very interesting.
Yes they do but it's okay, the vendors comments state "very good" for the entire narrative and also that delivery is free so I may just go for it
