  1. I'll put forward the Donna's. However I would also say there is no point forcing it. My kids like what they like, I tried to introduce rock music to them, especially in the car but t any time I forced it too much they told me to put off that 'old music' (for reference this was green Day, we're not exactly talking classical here). My son especially has told me he doesn't like rock music. However he loved ironman by black Sabbath when he was little (you can guess why). There was also a curious episode as a toddler where he was humming along to Rob zombie - let the bodies hit the floor thanks to an unfortunate Thomas the tank engine YouTube video.. He now listens to weird quasi numetal thanks to bands soundtracking Minecraft videos while strongly instigating that it is NOT rock music. My daughter thinks jazz is 'cooking music' and I've caught her singing the chorus to back pocket by vulfpeck from time to time as well. I would say just have music on and be involved with your kids. They won't know it but they will he absorbing all the time and they will associate the good times they have with you with that music, thus locking them into mad prog music whether they like it or not! Sorry for the long post, apparently sleep deprivation makes me wordy....
  2. I remember seeing a thing about this. I'm sure it's a copy of a dance from something much older, I'll need to look that up it's gonna annoy me haha! But if you out them side by side they are identical I think
  3. Ah brilliant thankyou very much. I knew there had to be something out there. The video's great cheers man!
  4. Hi guys bit of a weirdish one, I use an electroharmonix microsynth, but not technically as it was intended to be used. I basically switch the trigger and use it as an unusual sub/octave fuzz, essentially using the filters as a tone control rather than a dynamic filter sweep thing. I love the sound of it but its massive and needs 24v. Its also relatively old so its not gonna last forever. Now my question is: is there anything that sounds like the voice section of a microsynth without being an actual microsynth? It provides a suboctave that doesnt dominate the sound. I have a separate fuzz (devi-ever cherry pop) and octave (ehx multiplexer) but its a completely different sound, the microsynth is so much more 'refined' for lack of a better description and has quite a nasal quality without losing the bottom end. Ive attached a photo of my (current) settings if that helps. I know this is a bit of a weird ask, Im looking to reorganise the pedal board as its a mess and I want more on it (modulation, wah etc) and this and another pedal take up a third of my board alone. Thanks in advance guys!
  5. This is my main guitar - A Gibson SG special. It's got a limited edition blue/teal flip-flop finish that changes colour depending on the angle it's looked at. Swapped the bridge pickup for a bare-knuckle nail bomb and never got round to putting a P-90 in the neck. Also have a Yamaha les-paul type guitar (AES620), an epiphone SG (first electric) and an epiphone acoustic (first guitar) but none of them love with me cos I have a tiny house with tiny children and nowhere to put them safely....
  6. I'll admit I've not experimented much but I've been using a bit of a minky sponge. They come in packs of three I think and are big flat squares. The thickness of them fits neatly under the strings and I would say its adenser sponge compared to your typical yellow scourer. Another thing I liked about it is that I can shape it. I always felt the g string didn't need as much damping as the E and so I've tapered mine accordingly to give a more even response over the strings. Again I'm pretty new to this so don't take this as gospel or anything but it's worked for me!
  7. I'm optometrist working 6 days a week for the family business, largely in deprived areas around Glasgow. Frequently very challenging but also really rewarding. Done in most of the time but can't imagine myself anywhere else 😊 (pretty sure this is a form of Stockholm syndrome but nevermind)
  8. I have a longstanding love of mosrite style guitars and basses. However, after looking out this photo they do look at bit 'melty'. Still love it though, I blame the Ramones! And it's glittery...
  9. Admittedly this was in my guitar playing days but we had a gig that had went really well. Pretty much no-one was there but the people that were made it a really great night ( encore, stage invasion etc) and we were doing our usual 'make a load of noise at the end' schtick. In a brief moment of madness I decided it would look/sound cool to let my guitar drop onto the ground (base of guitar on the ground, me letting go of the headstock and let gravity take over). It did sound cool but when I picked up my (set neck) Gibson SG there was a massive fracture at the Headstock. Was very sad and embarrassed taking my baby up to string out guitars in Glasgow to see if they could save the patient. Good news is they are awesome and you wouldn't know something has happened to it to look at it today. I am a lot more careful these days and don't listen to the little voices in my head as much! 😬
  10. Currently indulging my new found love of Joe dart by attempting to learn some vulfpeck songs. So far got most of conscious club down and beginning to work through Cory Wong. Also have a couple of acoustic gigs coming up with my band, meeting up with the guitarist tonight to attempt to pull apart our set list and rework our songs for a more stripped back sound. So considering a couple of covers. I'm hoping the guys will be on board with flight of the conchords but sadly I don't think they share my love for New Zealand folk rock ☹️.
  11. I'm just curious, this thread has been ongoing for over two years. Has anyone's opinion changed regarding compression or has this been a spectacular argument with no end in sight?
  12. My 2003 (I think..) jazz bass. Bought it brand new. Took me a few dayd to notice the bridge pickup was gubbed and I was too shy/stupid to get the shop to sort it out so put up with it for a year before I nodded it with a quarterpound PJ set. Oddly I've hardly used the bridge pickup since I've had it installed, at the same time I'm really reluctant to look at anything else without one just in case I change my mind one day! This has been my only bass since then, GAS has finally kicked in and I'm looking for a new addition with the plan to convert this back to a traditional jazz, then change the pickguard to tortoise shell. But still I love it. It's my baby and I'll never get rid! PS please excuse the wife's PJ's!
  13. Well as well as being technicologically challenged, I have the memory or a fish/can't red. Good choice sir!
  14. Ok I'm on my phone and can't link YouTube videos but I'm amazed no-one has mentioned Christmas wrapping by the waitresses. The bassline alone hasmade it one of my favourite Christmas songs since I was 19, one of the few bareable songs on a repeated playlist when I worked in ladies clothing it kept me strong 🤣
  15. This may be sacrilegious to some on here but I have an EHX octave multiplexer that I really like the sound of. I should point out the only octave pedals I have played with to date are the aforementioned, the TC electronic sub'n'up and my Electro-Harmonix microsynth so I may be misinformed here but you can get one cheap it's worth a bash!
  16. The best christmas song you've never heard.....Well I think so anyways
  17. Thanks guys, power amps were another thing o wanted to ask about. I don't really know where to start. If you search on eBay for power amps all sorts show up. So stupid question number one, would any power amp (ie a PA amp) work out, apart from looking a bit mad? Are there good brands to keep an eye out for. Thanks for all your replies so far this is exactly what I'm looking for, I'm basically playing the long to medium term game on eBay and keeping an eye on different brands so just wanted mark sure I hadn't missed out on some options. I'm really hoping for a trace elliot to show up that's not the other end of the country but it's early days!
  18. Hello, Bit of a weird one here. In my current (and previous band actually) I haven't had an amp. Up until very recently I have been getting on just fine with my sansamp into the PA and either using house amps for monitoring or the PA monitors. However I've had two gigs now where I've had issues. One in a place in Workington were there was a PA but absolutely nothing on stage so I had to rely on my sound bounicng off the back wall, which just about worked and everyone was too drunk to care anyway. Second was more recent at a charity gig in a function hall where the PA turned out to be minimalist to say the least. So I have decided to not get caught short again and just get an amp setup. The only issue is I have no money. So my question to the great bass wizards is this: what is the cheapest but passable amps out there. I'm aiming for second hand and 200 watts or more I would say. I've managed to score an ashdown 1X15 for 31 quid that's the level I'm dealing with! Im a fan of ashdown in general bit I'm not holding out for much there. I've heard good things from Peavey's but what other brands should I be on the lookout for? Currently also looking at trace Elliots bit none are showing up on eBay in my location this far. All suggestions welcome and yes I'm well aware I'm taking the fosters with the budget restraints but getting the cab has given me some faith In my miserly endeavours! Thanks guys!
  19. Heres my (slightly messy) board. Needs a rejig but recently reintroduced the memory man back on to replace the DE-7. apart from that it's pretty much distortion
  20. There's another in Cumbernauld called Paul's halls. Equipment isn't amazing but if it makes life easier for you guys?
