Our playing years are limited so make the best use and get gigging. Also Many bands are not democracy's. Almost none of the successful ones are so refusing to compromise (and walking away as a result) is a fault in my book not a strength.

You've got this far without reading so I guess this isn't a skill that is necessary to your bass playing. If you're looking to take your playing abilities further I'd have some lessons and extend your technique in different directions.

I'll get a set list; check the keys and versions we're playing; listen to the numbers and write out charts; play them as much as I can; sound good so (hopefully) any mistakes won't matter too much!

If a new guy is good enough he can make new rules. If they are "better" than the old rules go with it. Then again, what do the audiences think of this new direction? Is it working? If it is then my instinct would be to go with it. IMO it doesn't matter who's calling the shots. . . . as long as they are good shots. This is always going to be the problem facing the "fun" player who wants to play some of their "favourite" tunes with some "mates". You can't leave every band when you run into something that you don't like, cos there's always [i]something[/i] not to like! I never want to play my favourite numbers in bands. That way I'm never upset when they mess them up or fed up when they drop them. Never mind what it was, is this a good band now, with good players? I'd stick around.

16 ohm and 8 ohm cabs equal 5.3ohms so can be handled by any SS or D Class amp. The 16 ohm cab will see 33% of the power and the 8 ohm cab will see 66% of the power.

Also. . . . it's fine running cabs that are not matched watts-wise, [u]as long as you are running within the range of the least powerfully rated cab. [/u] So, if you're running a 210 and 410 both 8 ohm, you have to ensure the power you're running your amp at to be within the range of the 210 cab. Then rather than the 210 working twice as hard the 410 will be working half as hard as it could and no damage will arise. If you want to permanently run 2 cabs then I'd match them properly but for occasional use just consider the weakest link and you'll be fine.

I don't know what MBE is. I have always bank transferred from my bank. I then use Interparcel and usually choose UPS.

I haven't been in a band that has advertised for a member since I joined through a Melody Maker ad in 1985. This is the difference between the fun bands and the guys who are more serious. Every band I've been in already had a short list when a vacancy cropped up. Blue is right. The jobs worth having are usually by invitation only.

3" castors won't de-couple the cabs from the floor. 3 feet might but 3" will be OK. I have both dolly boards and folding aluminium trolleys and I'd use the trolley every time. Mine always worked well with various 12's combinations.

Fender Bassman 410 combo's have been used by guitarists for many years.

As was pointed out the new amp is 650w at 4 ohm, not 8 ohm.

The term has been co-opted by many others but to me [i]a gig[/i] is a performance to an audience.

Your MAS45 is the 4x5" Mike Arnopol cab? And it's farting out with 250 watts at 8 ohm? That doesn't sound right. This cab should be able to handle 250 watts. On the MAS website, this cab looks like it's used in conjunction with a sub. Maybe it is struggling to handle the big lows that a DB can push out. I'd definitely try it with your HPF. Do you get this problem with the other amps in your sig?

[/quote] Depends how good your ear is and if you can tell the difference. I've just bought a serious upgrade to my amp of many years and I'm loving it with my 10's but not my 12 's cabs. Why? It's definitely a better amp but, for me, the sound doesn't work as well as the other amp. I've had the same happen with strings. Some parts of your signal chain have a synergy and others don't. Just one of those things that unfortunately costs you more money than you'd like to spend in order to find out. You have the solution (EB Slinkys) and now you know.

I believe the XLR socket on a Wal bass needs to have a jack in the other socket to work. Maybe OW basses are the same?
