Most expensive bass you've come across
roonjuice replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
I’ve been lucky enough to play and own plenty of expensive wood. Custom builds, namm specials and such from a few builders. Fodera, I get why people like them, and they are beautifully made, but to me they always sound a bit bland and lacking. Kinda generic like if u pick “bass guitar” on a midi DAW .Fantastic as a start point, and play wonderfully but sonically grey, and visually just not my thing. -

Biggest Bass Drop... EVER!!! #Edit:It's come to my attention that the term “Bass Drop" is not universal so may I add that this thread is asking for members to share their favourite Outstanding Bass moments in songs & has nothing to do with dropping fish*

A grand will get you a fully fledged rig if u shop about. U could pretty much get whatever u want with probably a bit of change left over if u went second hand, and not boutique!!! I saw a flightcased Svt and hlf Svt cab going on eBay recently for a chunk less than your budget. That would slam for u!!!

The 4 sounds flat and 1 dimensional in comparison, and feels completely different to play. Tube Svt’s (that are running well) feel “alive”....

Whats you “weight limit” ? i have been lucky enough to try most flagship amps of all kinds over the years class d amps get close. Out of all of them, the Ampeg pf800 is hoofing loud, and obvs does a fairly decent ampeg impression, albeit a bit hissy though, (cheap to buy too), but the best bang/buck/weight/tone ratio is defo a Mesa 400+ in my very humble opinion (coming from lugging Svt’s around......)

Easy now bud, no need to get defensive. You go your way, and I’ll go mine.

And a fully decent engineer will take your DI signal, pre and post amp, and blend with a mic’ ed cabinet and use that :0)

I’ve played through most heads, of all classes, and own various ss, d and valve amps. For me, dynamic feel and a response making me feel attached is worth more than tone when playing. It gives better expression, ability to ride bends and sustain, and makes me feel more connected. Good Tone comes from this

It’s very hard to describe, but I think/feel the difference is kinda like this:- a valve amp is still “active” even no nothing is actually playing through it. It’s charged, all ready moving, just waiting for a signal to work upon, and when a signal is passed through it works upon it in a positive/negative wave, replicating the motion of the strings etc. class d feels like it only reacts to the positive “push” of the strings, making it feel like half the dynamics and depth feel missing somehow. it measures perceptibly as just as loud, but kind feels half there.. what do u guys think?
