What Guitar would a Bassist grab?

Les Paul for me. There's something comforting and familiar about the weight and bulk. -
Choosing Songs In A Covers Band
Newfoundfreedom replied to SuperSeagull's topic in General Discussion
This was a constant bone of contention in my old covers band. We were all from very different musical backgrounds and liked different things. Rhythm guitarist was a punk. Lead guitarist into old school rock n roll. I come from a rock / metal background. Drummer was into jazz, and we had a female singer so certain male lead songs just didn't work. We weren't a professional band (as in doing it for the money) so there were certain songs I just wouldn't play. Anything by Oasis or The Shadows for example (both were suggested). It might sound selfish or stubborn. But it depends why you're doing it. If you're getting paid then yeah sure. You have to give the audience what they want. If it's a hobby then you should be playing things you enjoy, otherwise what's the point? -

Guild X 500 semi acoustic guitar near mint
Newfoundfreedom replied to JottoSW1's topic in Other Instruments
Nice. But why are there 10 pictures of the back? 😂 -
I'm more a buy it then get used to playing it kind of person. You can get used to playing almost anything with a bit of time, and trying first is pretty much impossible where I live. Worst case scenario, move it on and buy something else.

Anybody else smell a scam??
Newfoundfreedom replied to TheGreek's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Doesn't look particularly suspicious to me. What makes you think it's a scam? -
Never heard of it. Where is it?

The Basic Fundamentals course by Mark at Talking Bass is pretty good. It starts from a very basic level and gradually builds your skill and knowledge. Plus I really like Mark's no nonsense approach to teaching.

I've managed to avoid all this kind of hassle by having never been paid for a gig. 😂

W sounds A bit Nonchalant when it comes to Keeping a band together. It sounds like Everything he does needs to Revolve around him!

Pretty reasonable price too. Unusually for Fender.

Yes. That's how it should be done.

I believe that's exactly what will happen. I believe the internet rather than being improved my AI, will become pointless and unusable the more AI grows it's roots. We're already starting to see this with saturation of AI content in YouTube making it harder and harder to find good content.
-
Not too mention, despite all the waffle tell you absolutely nothing about the thing you're buying. I haven't sold anything on eBay for over a decade. Is the AI thing now a built in feature, or are people just using external tools like ChatGPT?
-
I've been saying for a while now that this all could (hopefully) have the opposite effect. Social media, internet, streaming etc will become so overrun and over saturated with AI so quickly that it will essentially destroy itself because it will be almost impossible to find genuine original content. This would force people back to the "real world" if they want to experience anything of any substance. Which could in turn lead to a massive increase in the demand for live music, live venues and analogue media. We're already starting to see this with the increased popularity of vinyl records. Maybe a best case scenario. But a boy can dream.

Basschat Marketplace: do you haggle?
Newfoundfreedom replied to Phil Starr's topic in General Discussion
Not a problem here. It's impossible to lose because of the way the couriers operate. I post the goods. The buyer goes to his local office inspects and pays for the goods and the postage before the goods are released. The courier then pays me. It's a superb system which should operate on every country in the world and takes all the risk out of selling / buying anything. -
Basschat Marketplace: do you haggle?
Newfoundfreedom replied to Phil Starr's topic in General Discussion
Well I've just this minute sold a bass through Facebook market place with no haggling whatsoever. "I'll have that. Please send it". Job done! There's a first time for everything. 😂
