D'oh! I need a bit more time here, don't I? Apologies.
No apology necessary! FWIW that particular grammatical cock-up is top of my personal red-mist list, and when eventually it becomes the accepted way of expressing this particular phrase (as it inevitably will) I'll pick up my chainsaw, don my easy-wipe goggles & go out and kill, indiscriminately & relentlessly. That'll make it better. J.

Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
Bassassin replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Haven't ploughed through the text yet but from my (somewhat limited) knowledge of 60s JapCrap, I think it actually is a Teisco for a change - those fretboard edge position markers are supposedly unique to Teisco, according to those who claim to know! Pretty damn cool old bass though, shame about the Dulux refin but that should come off easily enough. In other matters, the CSL Jazz is quite interesting - it's the same as mine (and one owned by Waldemar, of this parish) except it has the later & more common Ibby Blazer-shaped headstock. The Sumbro J looks very appealing for £99 - might even be tempted myself if I hadn't just bought this off the lovely Mr Tino for £25! Don't know if he knows yet.... J. -
"Who would HAVE thought it?" I'll give you "mutilate the language"!
Irony fail. I give up! J.

Just spotted that & jumped on here to post it myself. It prompted me to wonder about a person as delusional as this seller plainly is. Are they just a harmless and oddly charming eccentric who can sometimes momentarily make the world a brighter place with their amusing whimsical fantasies, or should they be locked up, kept subdued and closely monitored, for the sake of their own safety & that of the community? I just don't know. Jon.

They're also very rare bits of horrid firewood and have genuinely become collectors' items. I doubt people paying this sort of money (as they seem to do) will have much interest in using them as instruments, & the red Watkins that's currently at £511 does look in exceptional condition for a mid-60s bass. I picked up a Rapier guitar at a car boot - paid £12 for it along with a wrecked Strat copy - I tidied it up as much as possible but it was still pretty tired-looking when I sold it. I was pretty amazed someone was willing to pay £250-odd for it, but being a collector is clearly a weird thing. Jon.

Just when you think you've seen the lot - fretts, frettles, knecks, knuts, turners, humbuggers (that's right, humbuggers) - just goes to show there will always be new ways to creatively mutilate the language. Who would of thought it? Jon.

Rickenfaker Pickguard on Ebay
Bassassin replied to Dave Vader's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
I might be wrong here, but I think the scratchplate is one part of the 4001 design that RIC don't have a trademark attached to - so you might be able to use the "R" word in your listing. I remember reading a topic about these on Rickresource, and John Hall actually commented to the effect that scratchplates weren't worth trademarking & that RIC sort of unofficially endorses the likes of Pickguardian & WD, who will supply plates for older instruments that RIC don't carry spares for. I sold one a few years ago, think I said it was for a "Rickenbacker or similarly styled" bass - had no problems with that. Jon. -
Hi noobie. Unfortunately your Ric is quite worthless. I'll give you a tenner just to take it off your hands. Seriously though Lewis, welcome. Feel free to stick around after your sale.
Don't listen to him. It's a Japanese Rick copy (trust me, I have an instinct for these things) and I'll happily bung you £250 for it. & , btw! Really though - welcome, and lots of clear & accurate photos of your gear, please - particularly the 4001 because I like to gawp & drool over things I'll never have... Jon.
wow look at this! This is just babbling, hooting, halfwitted drivel:
We only know of Tacoma as an American brandname, but from the little information we can find on the internet, it is originally japanese and came out one of 'Young Chang's" Companys called Fenix, that later became Fender Made by Squier.
What? They're just making up random rubbish! Glad the ferrule fits, Luke! J. -
I may be wrong but could have sworn this didn't sell recently for £200 BIN. Wait til it doesn't sell and PM him with a sub £200 offer I'd say. And yeah, I do agree it looks nice. I'm not at all into these Westone/Aria natural twin cut away Jap things usually but that looks brilliant, I'd happily own one.
It was up a month ago at £250 and unsurprisingly didn't shift. Like I said when we discussed it then, I think he'd struggle to get £150 at the moment. Aria STB Jazz fails to sell

Loud, reliable, compact, flexible - that covers it for me. Can't see me changing my GK700RB 1x15 & Hartke 2.5XL setup anytime soon. Jon.
Exactly what i wanted to know. Thank you mr Twit.
Certainly is - in a 99p, no reserve auction this would fetch about £150. Very nice basses but not worth any £250 - which is doubtless why this one keeps coming back. J. -

I thought £141 was a bit high for that tbh - looks like the seller probably did too, considering the lower BIN. J. -
1mm Dunlop black nylons again - just flexible enough for a bit of feel but stiff enough to dig in hard when necessary. Which is most of the time for me. Jon.

That's the first Ritter that's made me smile rather than wince, so that's a start. Futurama version, please. Jon.

It's a pity & a wasted opportunity, but it seems to be common for "re-issues" of some of the more idiosyncratic vintage designs to cop out & use generic hardware & components, while simply apeing the style of the real thing. The Epiphone Ripper with its P/J pickups, the Aria Diamond Mosrite lookalike (Eastwood do a version of this too) with J pups & bent tin bridge - even the Yamaha SBV is really just a funny-shaped Jazz & only retains the look of the 60s SB series. I suppose though, these are all fairly budget basses & reproducing original hardware & electronics would probably make them prohibitively expensive - particularly for a target market that is likely a lot more interested in the visual style than authentic detail. Jon.

Stupendous bargain for £75! These are probably my favourite Roadstars, love the bound body & Rick-influenced horns. I always though Schecter had these in mind when they came up with this. Jon.

This auction is, in my opinion, excellent in every way. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/160559216667 Read the whole listing plus the additional stuff - bloody marvellous! Jon.

I have a Korg AX3000B multi-effects, I basically have a "straight" clean sound I use most of the time, little bit of overdrive & compression but nothing obvious. I also have a chorused version of the same sound which I think sounds good on more mellow passages, and a huge distorted, flangy racket sound which is used very briefly on two songs. There are also some nice red lights on the Korg, which I like - and apart from those, that's it. Jon.

Correct?
Yep - I had one, ply body, fairly dodgy fretwork, plastic-button tuners - very basic cheapo J copy. The suggestion that these are "better than a Columbus or Squier" is really quite laughable. J.
