How's the tension of the Pure Blues? I have 2 Sandberg V's , a VS4 with a vintage toned pickup and a VT4 with the stock Delano's The VS4 has the LTF's that I want to replace. Maybe I'll give the Pure Blues a go.

Revisiting an older thread. I've had a little break from bass playing during lock down but have come back to it over the past few weeks, mainly using my J bass with rounds. Picked up my P Bass last night which I'd restrung with LaBella Low Tension flats and didn't like it at all. So I'm probably going back to Roundcored roundwounds. I've previously used Sunbeams and liked them but I've not tried Pure Blues at all. Does anyone have experience with either of these and can summarise the differences?

Rock Songs with Non Standard Time Signatures
PatrickJ replied to PatrickJ's topic in General Discussion
It's great- I've been learning both the acoustic and bass parts. The other song i put forward was Luminol (well the first 4.5 mins of it) - I'm really into the bass lines though I can't decide on pick or fingers Drummers choice was Lune by Periphery which keeps the guitarist happy due to excessive use of delay effect -
You could buy my Sunburst / Tort VS4 from the market place to keep you going and then sell it on when yours arrives, or keep it as a backup 😀

Rock Songs with Non Standard Time Signatures

Loads of great suggestions - thanks guys. We settled on a couple of Steve Wilson and Porcupine Tree songs to have a play with which I guessed strayed into prog somewhat but not too far. Though the drummer and I are in dispute about what time signature Trains is actually in (for the main riff the Acoustic guitars play) - any thoughts? -

Sorry to hear this Stu - very sad news (on a few levels). Fingers crossed things do improve in the near future and you can get your spot back.

I was doing really well - since this post I've sold 1x bass and 2x guitars and have a another bass currently for sale on this forum. I did buy a new acoustic which was part of the plan as I'll now move on my beat up old SP6. However, when you have the proceeds from aforementioned sales burning a hole in the virtual pocket the GAS strikes hard. Not helped when you find @gareth is selling a lovely looking YoB P Bass in my colours not more than 45 minutes away from my house ....

Purchased these from Best Bass Gear earlier in the year for my custom build. However they didn't work well with Nordstrand Preamp as the stacked shaft for the treble/ bass control was too tall for the stacked knobs. They are in good condition with brass shims fitted to step the shaft diameter down to 6mm. Here's the links to the items on the BBG website. - https://www.bestbassgear.com/large-black-aluminum-knob.htm - https://www.bestbassgear.com/concentric-stacked-black-aluminum-knob.htm £20 including 2nd class signed for delivery to a UK address.

I have 3 virtual boards set up on my HX FX right now. Board 1 is for use in front of my ashdown tube head! It's got a PARA EQ, Compressor and a drive pedal and that's it. This is for jamming with my buddies at the studio which is primarily rock based music. Board 2 is dubbed Jazzcapades and is for use in front of my Markbass head. This has a bit more going on! 2x Para EQs that are set to match the EQ points of the Little Marcus MB heads, a compressor, Octave pedal and a Tilt control to roll off the high end (adjusted via expression pedal) to allow me to switch between modern and vintage tones. I dep'd a few times for rehearsals with a couple of jazz bands before lockdown and I built this board incase I got another call back. Board 3 is labelled Deeper Underground. This is full of Synths, filters and Octaves for jamming along to Jamiroquai tracks, only at home I can't find anyone else who wants to play these songs.

@TRBboy DM me if you are interested but I have 3x single knobs and 1x stacked Sadowsky style knobs that I was looking to sell (I have a fully paid up selling subscription). I bought them for my custom guitar but the stacked knob didn't work too well with the Nordstrand pre-amp as the pot shaft was too long. I ended up replacing them with East control knobs which fitted better. They're in good condition - the shaft adaptors are installed ton step them down to 6mm but they should be removable if you ever need a larger diameter. I bought them from the US on the Best Bass Gear website.

He did ask if anyone had bought from them recently - was just confirming I had and that they were dispatched quickly. Though they were in stock strings, nothing custom and so it could have been anyone working for Newtone that shipped them - I doubt Neil does that himself.
-
I ordered 2 sets of acoustic guitar strings from the Newtone website on Wednesday. I got a dispatch notice the next morning. I have a set of their roundwound bass strings on my Shuker that I really like. I just wish they did flatwounds.

I think this is the real risk with custom basses. Because you can't see and try the physical product before you commission it you're never quite sure what you are going to get. Although on paper everything should be perfect it may not turn out exactly the way you had pictured in your mind. So why not just sell it? Well that's hard, it's not just the monetary investment it's the emotional investment too (almost a feeling of failure) so you keep trying to make it fit and fall in love with it. The reality is if it hasn't after all this time, it's not going too. Once you commit to selling it I think you'll start to feel much better.

Hi Guys, I need some help identifying a number of rock songs that incorporate some non-standard time signatures within them that aren't prog metal. I've picked up a few ideas but would like to come up with some more (need to keep our prog loving drummer engaged in Jam nights post lockdown) Ideas thus far ... Times Like These - Has those 7/8 sections Mountains - I believe the verse is in 15/16 time with a few sections being in 3/4 too Black Dog - The 5/4 guitar riffs over the 4/4 drums The Ocean - The 4/4 and 7/8 riffs through the song (plus the walking bass at the end of the song seems fun to play). Limelight Thanks

Any recordings of the Parallax @fretmeister ?

Anyone tried any of Neural DSP plugins for bass? https://neuraldsp.com/products/darkglass-ultra-plugin A guitarist colleague of mine showed me some recordings where he used one of the guitar editions of the NEURAL DSP and they sounded incredible. I was wondering if anyone had tried the Bass ones at all, the darkglas ultra's being of particular interest to me. Any other recommendations, I've never got on with Amplitude very well.
