Hi Guys,. I'm looking for some thoughts on the Barefaced cabinet range. I'm considering a new cabinet, possibly a barefaced option. My current set up consists of a GK MB500 head (used as a power amp, with a Tech21 BFR as the Pre-amp) partnered with either a Hartke Hydrive 112 cabinet for rehearsals, or a GK CX410 for the few gigs I've done. The Hartke cab came with the head as a combo package but I'm not sure I like it that much. I certainly prefer the 410 but the size makes it impractical to take out to rehearsals and is a bit overkill for the size gigs I've been playing and are ever likely to play. Looking at Barefaced product range I couldn't decide whether the Super Compact or the Two 10 would be a better fit. I like the idea of the Two 10 given my preference for the CX410 but I understand it's voiced to be retro and so there might be some additional coloring added to my tone that the Super Compact might not give. I couldn't find a comparison demo between the two, does any one have any thoughts or experiences. What non-barefaced alternatives exist, i'm aware of TKS and obviously all the major brands such as Peavy, GK, Ampeg - does anything particularly stand out.

Luckily that is not something I've had a problem with, that would be super annoying! Yes, I would have really liked an FX loop on the BFR, especially if like the boost you could select where in the chain it sat.

I do some times wonder if perhaps the best thing for me to do would be to focus on learning more of the basics around bass line creation and improvisation and waiting for the kids to get a bit older, then re-do the band thing when I have more time to focus on it.

I was a late starter with bass, I'm almost 40 but have only been playing for only a few years. I got the opportunity to join a local / casual band around 18 months ago and it's been fun experience with a few gigs along the way. However, I'm in the situation now where i fear my ambition is outstretching my ability. I get increasingly frustrated with the band's lack of commitment and playing time, they all have busy lives so I get it but I'd like to be rehearsing and gigging more regularly and maybe gigging more too. I have 4 young kids so I can't invest the time to play in two bands but I'm very much considering quitting with the current guys and starting my own thing, playing the type of music I most enjoy! The only thing that holds me back is a lack of confidence in my current playing standard..

I've just read through this thread and it's been interesting hearing the experiences of others. I really like my BFR,, the simple compression and chorus controls work really well for me and the Sansamp section sounds great. However, I've not been able to get much from the Octafilter section.. Has anyone has had success with this? I'm trying to get a decent envelope filter effect out of it, the demo's on YouTube from Tech21 sound great but, I can't get the same intensity from mine. I have to really dig in and even then the effect reminds reasonably subtle, especially with the range dial at 9 o clock or above.

I just finished watching the YouTube demo's on the Silver Peg, the pedal sounds great especially with the gain button engaged and volume cranked. I read it was modelled on the V-4B which was actually my favourite sounding amp in the video I posted earlier. Decided to take the punt and ordered on off eBay too.

Thanks, I'll take a look!! Can't seem to find one any where in the UK though so it might be a case of watching demo's and taking a punt. It seems to be much cheaper than the Zvex.

Good to know as I ordered one online last week after watching some online demo's. I spent some time last night dialing in some fliptop and VT style tones I liked into my flyrig, but I find unless the character knob is above 3 o'clock you don't get a lot of drive from it, I think the SFT will help me get a dirty fliptop type sound. I'm also still considering the Basstortion as it does have that VT grind appeal, and some stores have them on offer right now. Next on the GAS list some vintage sounding cabs to replace my Hydrive, barefaced seem to get a lot of love here.

OK maybe it is a little bit of one of those threads.... Sorry. I've only been playing bass for a few years and during my journey I've been experimenting with different gear and effects. I'm coming to the conclusion that I'm pretty sure I'm an Ampeg guy. I listen to countless of records and think, I really dig that tone, and when checking in on the gear it's usually involves an Ampeg rig (or a Tech21 clone) of some sort. I can't afford a full on SVT amp and 8x10 cab' actually I really want to go ampless Geddy style, minus the washing machines perhaps. I have a Tech21 Bass Fly Rig which I really like as a Sans Amp solution. I dial the character over to the SVT side and add a little drive as my go to clean tone. What I'm looking for is a dirt pedal for a higher gain sound that has some of that classic Ampeg vide. On my short list from some online research: * Catalinbread SFT * Zvex Basstortion * Ampeg Scrambler (I've not spent much time looking into this one yet) Any thoughts on these pedals? I have a Boss LS-2 which I could use to blend the clean tone to help retain bottom end clarity. Any other options to consider? Cheers Bass Guru's
