  1. Yes, I'm enjoying iReal Pro very much. My old iPad wouldn't support it so I had an excuse to go and buy a new tablet too :). The transpose feature is excellent, I used that a number of times last week when the singer casually mentioned, can we take this down a tone. Boom, no problem at all just let me click this button. It seems that I also spoke too soon on the callbacks. Guitarist asked me to dep again for their rehearsal this Sunday. He even gave me two days notice this time, I'm obviously moving up his speed dial list. Unfortunately I can't make it which is a shame because I've been practicing.
  2. So my jazzcapades continue. Aforementioned guitarist called me (again at 24 hrs notice) asking me to step in as bassist for his other band at a rehearsal. Again in a move that's totally out of character for me I agree to do it. Smaller affair to last time, a bunch of standards I'd never played before, but with just drums, guitar, singer and sax. Again all very patient with me but perhaps this time it wasn't quite so warm and welcoming. I guess with the smaller ensemble, the lack of a solid walking bass line left parts of the songs feeling very bare and my lack of experience really stood out. I'm not expecting any callbacks anytime soon but another great experience for me. I've subsequently started an Online SBL course called the beginning Jazz survival guide or something. It's funny that one of the first things @devinebass calls out in the intro is you can't fake playing walking bass, you can either do it or you can't - something my recent experiences can whole heartedly attest too.
  3. Thanks for this! I got to see Snarky Puppy at the Royal Albert hall, was tempted by the Ronnie's gig but perhaps I'll go for this instead.
  4. That, and the Nathan East presets were my favourite on the Spectracomp. The Red Headed Bastard was quite transparent IIRC
  5. No problems at all, I had a few folks interested in that one so hopefully at least one person will have PayPal. Patrick

    STRAY - UK Tour

Feb 28th, you're playing my home town!! Whoop! @Al Krowwe still thinking of a BC get together March 12th? @King Tut my old Eden Cab going on tour with you?
  8. I cut mine, but always bend the string and cut just after the bend. I seem to remember watching some video on YT that advised to do it this way to avoid the string going dead - something to do with stopping the core from slipping IIRC.
  9. If you figure that out let me know, I had the same experience with mine.
  10. It's a lovely instrument, very well balanced, light and super comfy to play. Jon has done a great job and he's a really nice guy. Specifications of the bass: - Alder body with English Elm Burr drop top - Birdseye Maple fingerboard on a maple neck - 40mm neck width at nut, 19mm string spacing at bridge - ABM single string bridge pieces - Schaller Light Weight Tuners - Aaron Armstrong Handwound J pickups - Norstrand 2B Pre-Amp - Luminlay Side Dots I may try a few different pickups to see what I like best, I'm tempted by some Nordstrand J Blades. However, I'm also wondering whether I should have just gone for Soapbar pickups. I mentioned it to Jon today when I collected the bass and he said it would be no problem to re-route the pickups if I wanted to.
  11. And I finally have it ...
  12. Just read this thread, did you ever figure out who produced the bass?
  13. And it's a P Bass and thus against the principle of this thread.
  14. Pachyderm (Les Claypool designed)
  15. Nice to see the Shukers and ACG's being put forward.
  16. I always thought this Fodera was stunning. Single cuts are not normally my thing but the Kestrel inlay is beautiful.
  17. Very pretty
  18. The Rebel Bass 😁
  19. Love these
  20. Inspired by the ongoing debate in the Ashdown Basses thread on what does not make an original or pleasing design of Bass Guitar I'm keen to hear the opinion of the Basschat collective on what our favourite unique bass guitar designs actually are. Pictures and reasons please, only rule is it can't be a Jazz or Precision based.
  21. AAF were rhe first band I saw live when I moved to London , dont remember if Tye was playing his sig bass or not, I wasnt a bass player back then so wouldnt have cared. Some of those Master built Fenders aren't bad at all! I like the body shapes and wood finishes on 1 and 2. But again, that's my personal preference and wouldnt appeal to the many I'm sure. Not keen on the control layouts though but again that's only my preference.
  22. I assume Tye was heavily involved in the design of it, so it was probably quite personal to him. +1 to this, but I have no problem with other companies making their own versions, I love my Sandberg P basses (Type II's) and my custom is a tweaked J bass design. It's just what I like. Bringing this thread back to Ashdown, I can't see a compelling reason to buy one of their basses when they are near identical clones and more expensive than an official Mexican model (even the deluxe ones). In the video posted earlier even Mark himself didn't seem very excited by the P and J's and the other two designs didn't really seem that special.
  23. They did for Tye Zamora and his custom 6 string bass.
