I'd like to try a Dingwall but I read that he won't make left handed versions, true or false?
2. 300-400w is plenty, you just need more than two speakers, ie a 4x10" cab and it needs to be efficient. Check the sensitivity ratings of the cabs you are interested in. You could go, preamp- £200, power amp-£200, cab-£400. That way you could have a very powerful and loud rig but then you have to decide whether to get a 4 or 8 ohm cab. It's all good fun at the end of the day.

Which 6?

Buy this bass. £350 Toby Pro, £160's worth of EMG'S thrown in, derrrrr.
4. Radiohead, last night on Jonathon Ross, discuss. The best tv sound mix I've heard in a long time. Great song, great guitar playing and tasteful bass. A joy. Nice suit on the drummer. I hope this stops all the crap about Estelle.
5. You said "dirty back yard".
6. I bet his mum battered him for using all of her nail varnish, the tit.
7. Estelle's band totally over played, totally. I went to see India Ari thinking that the gig would be better than the albums but the same thing happened, completely devoid of groove too many fills, too flashy, no groove, and she had shaved her head.
8.
I just came across this thread by accident - fantastic looking 6 string bass there! I just love Status!
Is that a left handed Status S2 5 I see before me?
9. The Funk, that wasn't for you, I apologise.
10. It's time for one of Alex's screen shots of comparison frequency graphs. There is NO susbstitute for actually trying loads of different set ups in your band. It can take years to find a tone you like, it depends how fussy you are. As for Ampeg not being hifi enough thats a load of bull and the adjective "hifi" used in bass amplification grinds my gears. I totally agree with what Alex says, if you don't want blunt then how much sugar do you want on it?
11. Thank you my fellow left handed bedreaded metal monster.
12. Leave it Ricky! That's a nice colour anyway.
13. A few more pics. The neck is fine now, just a few more tweaks to do. I put some D'addario Pro Steels on it yeasterday, they sound fine but they're tough on your fingers and hard to slide on. It came with a set of nickel D'addarios and they felt much easier to play but I do like the punchy zing of steel strings.
14. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
15. Hi Kev I got the neck sorted, just used a big f**k off screwdriver. These buried truss rods are a pain in the arse to set, It took 4 goes and it's still not there but I had to leave it as I was taking it out to rehearsals. Back from said rehearsals and it sounded great for our heavy numbers but the design fault on pickups, flat pup, radiused fingerboard, meant lower output from the A and D strings. Have you ever seen A.J. smile? He's a serious cat.
16. Bravo sir, that is one hunk of burning love. I will say one thing to you, WOOD DUST! I used to wear a hat while sanding, sawing, routing, filing cause i had long hair, after sanding a rosewood board one day, I got in the shower and the water turned maroon. And it turns your snot purple too. Any way what a great job. As reguards the weight, get a Comfort Strapp and take longer breaks, or get the router out and remove some wood from underneath the scratchplate. Brill, shape, finish, choice of bits. Did you have to level any frets and did you use a thickness planer? Cheers Steve.
17. POP! The bubble has burst. Now I know why the action was so high. The strings are buzzing on the first three to four frets as the neck is slightly bowed back, so I took the neck off and tried to slacken the truss rod to let the string tension pull the neck up but the truss rod won't budge. It's a cross headed nut that looks like someone has used the wrong sized screwdriver on. It won't turn either way. It's late now so I'm not going to mess around with it. Bollocks. I'll have to think about this one.
18. Cheers mate, I know about the strip, I meant the bass in general. I like the look of the strip and the nickel bridge, tuners and I like the sound of this bass, very punchy and it plays beautifully. I'd forgotten how lovely the necks are as my old J.D.'s neck was based on a Jazz. I've never seen a neck pocket so tight and I've seen hundreds of Fender basses.
19. Ordered on Tuesday, tried to deliver it yesterday but I was at work, collected it from the post office today. Three days from order to arrival, not bad, especially as it came from JAPAN! Three days unbelievable. Anyway Fender Jazz, crafted in Japan, 1999-2000. Is it based on a 62 model? (Note the brass strip at the bridge). Can anyone tell me more about the bass, where it was made, what the body is made of? I think Basswood or Alder. The action was scary high so after a bit of tweaking it plays amazingly well and it sounds as good as anything I've played before, it really is superb. But the biggest shock was the weight, it is as light as a feather. It was so well packed that it took about 15 mins to unpack it. I am well chuffed After a good setup and a clean, I think this maybe my number one bass, it's that good. Cheers Steve.
20. SR5 is beautiful, absolutely my favorite colour for a bass and dead, dead rare. I'd love a Fender Jazz and matching Precision in Burgandy Mist, pre CBS, just like John Entwhistle used to have but finding them in left hand would be impossible. The three MM's together look sexy.
21. Bought an SVP PRO preamp from Dan, immaculate, well wrapped, looked great and the preamp was ok too. (Da dum, tshiiii) Sixty quids worth of new valveage, like new, Would buy again from this fine young man. Cheers Steve.
22. Perhaps my KGB Headless should be played by a decapitated member of the secret police from the former Soviet Union. Or a shifty striped producer of honey.
23. I took the Recurve to rehearsals tonight for the first time as it has been back to Alan's to have a couple of tweaks, so even though I got it last year, this is the first outing with guitars and drums. It's a beast. It cuts through like a laser and after four hours on a strap it left no aches or pains and it's a six string. It's also the first time I've played a six string with other musicians so I was apprehensive of making loads of cock ups but because it plays so well and is brilliantly designed my fingers seemed to go where I wanted them to. In a nut shell it's f***in' ace.
24. Hi Alex, from looking at the specs of the speakers and crossover and the frequency that you have chosen to tune the cab to, this is going to sound very powerful with a realistic low end response. I lke the size as well and the intelligent selection of timbers. I'd be very interested in two 8 ohm 15" subs to match my AccuGrooves or one at 4 ohms. With the 3015LF's and your lightweight cabs they would be ideal. PM me some prices if you are going to make any more. Cheers Steve.
