1.
Its no dissing of 'Modern' Bassists, nor Warwicks, its just the age old...."He uses X" advert vs whats actually used in the studio,I dont hate Warwicks at all, never had a beef with them, but they aint what they were when I started out...its an old complaint, but they changed summat in the early/mid 90s...But hey its a company decision,as is the endorsement rollcall...I recall an audition I had and one of the 'hooks' was a Warwick deal....I didnt get the job. There isnt such a thing as 'Classic' metal..theres just Good and sh*t,and then theres respect.... Geezer had to fight a war with Producers and engineers to get his 'sound' onto tape..and to say he was not fighting against distortion???? Kid are you crazy??? Iommi's tone EATS space,to make it heavy to quote 'With a heavy riff it just HAS to have distortion'...Sabbath IS Metal, yeah they made a few off the pace records, and the Ozzy stuff in the comeback years is ..file under..errrr...but the 'Heaven and Hell' stuff..that Lakland hes using is taken from the specs of the old P used from Black Sabbath to Master of reality. Ive noticed a few things in the 'modern' age....Not to many guitar solos and not many 3 pieces...I reckon with modern tones a 3 piece wouldnt stand up,and theres an awful lot of reliance on boxes and digi stuff to make up for lack of technique or just plain crap amplification..I used to diss the old duffers with only 20 frets, but they had a point and they had a tone that worked....I learnt that the hard way,and the tone still works..its still on records now.
Agreed.
2. Eb C# B G# F Eb C# C. Marvelous. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-opY4qcidFk
3. Hi Marcus, you are a nice guy, be hard and play well is my philosophy. Have a good Christmas, to you and your family. Great bass.
4. I'm a TB member and have found people to be generally ok. It does seem though that every high-end or vintage bass "plays like butta" in the for sale threads. I bought a preamp off TB this year which developed a problem a couple of weeks later, I told the seller and he paid for the repair, he could have said deal with it, you're 5000 miles away, awesome dude! I got a warning once for asking if Far Eastern production of a certain amp had anything to do with the reports of failure that were being posted. They do like their clubs, I think there is a club for nearly every facet of bass, all good fun though.
5. To be honest, I just like looking at it. It's way more than I would ever spend on a bass, I've totally missed out on getting a good, playable 60-70's lefty Jazz bass for a realistic price by about 10 years. The money that these basses are going for is mind boggling, I'm more tha happy to play my CIJ Jazz and I don't care if I never see a 1966 Jazz bass in Fiesta Red with matching headstock.
6.
Guess i can put these here now too, and here with my Rumour, James.
James, that is incredible. It is the loveliest Spitfire. I would love to see it in the flesh. Excellent choice of woods. Wow.
7.
I really hope that isn't the case (they don't have my money but I'm thinking of others). If it is then 'Karma' is working in reverse (though technically not, as Karma is about balance) and has turned around and bitten BassChat in the ars* after we helped out with the Jake Day fiasco. Alternatively I think this is just a case of REVERB leaving all of these (long gone) offers on their site to get people in to look and even if a few people think 'what the heck' and buy something else when the bargain turns out not to be in stock! I do know people who have bought off that stock list so they were genuinely there to begin with. It'll be interesting to get feedback from those that did place orders.
Hi John I really hope you are right. I was thinking exactly the same thing about Karma and Rob and how totally sh*t it would be if ,well.... What we need to do on here (Basschat) is have positive vibes to all involed who could be burned but we also have to understand that you can't have something for nothing.
8.
Well i just rang them, There was only one White musicman at that price. He cant tell me who got it as the orders havent been sorted and it wont be sorted til after christmas. Considering how long it took me and budget to get an order through i doubt either of us have got it.
Hi Rob I really hope this gets sorted out for you and you don't lose ant money.
9.
Mmmmm......
Errrr, am I the only one and Beedster who is thinking that you all my have been royaly scr..... A MM 5 string for 499, DERRRR!!! I've heard of loss-leaders and sweeteners to get you to look at other items but it is scary how some old heads on here have shown interest in these items considering where the economy is at the moment. I lost money on a cooker ordered from MFI in the Summer that was supposed to arrive last month, the bastards still took the money before we had it, I really hope the same doesn't happen to anyone on here, or anyone else for that matter.
10. What a fantastuc amp, our guitarist got the 100 w head and 4x12 new in 1992 and played his 60's Jaguar through it (which cost £650 in 1992!!!), what a sound. If I had the money I would buy this, no hesitation.
11.
Oh, seriously man, that's so unhelpful. I'm not stupid ok? I don't need you to patronise me with some asinine comment about "ooh, just try try everything you can". I need some advice with regards to best buys for my requirements, what sort of wattage comparisons, that kind of thing. Really, could you BE any less helpful. But thanks for that yeah.
Bass Ferret speaks the truth on this one. Think about it for a minute, do you want to go into a shop and buy the gear with the highest specs, or do you want to find something that sounds good to your ears? You only have £400 to spend. I'd be trying everything out. Good luck.
12.
I've been waiting on these lightweight German items of beauty for months, but boy was it worth it!! Kork DTR2000 tuner, Tec Amp Puma 500 head & Tec Amp M212 cab. No name modified Jazz (BadAssII, AC 02 Pre, Bartolini P'ups (not shown). And my 1980 Wal. Total weight of rig about 25 or 26kg. D.
Gorgeous rig, I should have bought that Wal when I had the chance.
13. Good call.
14. I had the IP310 for some time and IMO it was a truly beautiful sounding cab....but it was limited by being a stand alone unit, ie, you couldn't add another cab for extra umph. I heard a IP112 plus extension and that sounded nice but the IP310 is the daddy. It sounded like what I wanted it to sound like with an Ampeg SVP PRO, an Avalon U5, then an SVT IIP but it sounded the best with an Aguilar DB680, which I still have. Slap sound is how you play and what you put in front of it, for me, it was agressive, crystal and punchy in the gut, amazing pieces of kit. Having said all that, I now run the DB680 into a QSC PLX3102 into a tech soundsystems 6x10" and this is the new Daddy.
15. I teach from home in the study, which has Cubase, amps and comfy chairs, I will teach at a pupils house but at mine, I have the benefit of recording pupils and then showing the progression with a history of recordings.
16. My cousin bought one of these in the 80's and the fingerboard fell off.
17. I've created a monster, I tell you. I love some of Jacos stuff but some of it, like the instructional video is awful. I would not have liked to have been stuck in a lift with him, as I don't get on with braggers and show offs.
18. Hello, I'm Conway Twitty.
19. "Its why Finnbass exists, its like the chillout room, some of us are welcome..... " The best post ever on Basschat.
20. Argh, Skank, you now this to be true.
21.
WTF !!!!
I am a shop, I am an island. (line 12)
22.
I've never really had a view on him until watching that clip. All I can say is what utter dog sh1t. Firstly, stop twiddling with f***ing knobs you gay. No one wants to see that. Also, its all loops. No one likes looping apart from Steve Lawson. And whats with that distorted noise? That ain't music where I come from. That's a f*** up. I cannot believe anyone could tap their foot to that. The audience are on the verge of starting a slow clap. By the end of that, I'd be looking forward to listening to that split-arse singing about a yellow taxi. I have a simple rule with music. If an musician is only liked by people who play that instrument, stay well clear. As for being a total f***ing dude - I'd describe him as a f***ed up junkie who should have been more careful when picking his fights.
Why is Joni Mitchell a split arse? Is that how you think of women? I think you do have a simple rule with music and that is that you don't like it (you have said this yourself), if that is the case, why are you a member of basschat?
23. Just looking at vinyl and cd's I have, Godspeed you Black Emperor, Loop, Edwin Collins, Stump, Art Blakey, Blamange, Human League, Earth, Wind and Fire, Bootsy Collins, James Brown, Motorhead, I could go on, what I'm trying to say is that for me, I don't have a genre that I passionately guard, I just love good music. I'm sorry about the 14 year old boy quip (ARGH), I love some metal too. I originally posted the Jaco clip to show how cool I thought he looked, it was a different time back then, we live in very uptight times, (nearly as uptight as Jacos white keks). This being Basschat, I'm not suprised that this has turned into a "my dad's bigger than your dad's" contest.
24.
Metal Its the genre you Jazzers fear, because it out improvises you,and the musicians are stronger, and far far more innovative, both in note choice and equipment. And best of all.......WE AINT SMUG ABOUT IT AND CHICKS LIKE US!!!
If being a 14 year old boy all your life is your thing, then fair play to all Metallers. Heavy Metal FTW.
25.
Thats got to be the best nonsense i have ever read on any Bass forum.. Garry
Lewis Hamilton can drive a car....alledgedly. Supposedly.
