1.
Hey Rich, you got any interest in an Epiphone Tunderbird IV with hardcase? Cheers Anthony
Is it the standard sunburst one?
2. Is this the standard model of the new Adam Clayton model? Yes, Martin - Definitely Stryking!
3. **SOLD** Another bass I took as a p/x in the last week or two. A nice cheap Cort in satin black with distinctive pearloid binding around the body & a nicely profiled 24 fret wenge neck. Feels and sounds very Warwick like to play & comes complete with two-band eq & a push/pull active/passive control on the volume pot. Comes with a nice cream Italia gig bag. Excellent overall condition with just a slight scratch on the back above the battery cover. The bass will come strung with a nice new set of DR Marcus Miller FatBeams and fully set up. Can't say fairer than that £200 or make me a silly offer. Part exchanges & trade offers welcome as per usual. Rich - 07545 471037
4. I heard this bass yesterday through my Genz cabs & backup LG1000 amp. Seriously nice sounding Jazz bass - It has the "creaminess" to the sound that all the Japanese J variants seem to have. Best of luck with the sale, Rich
5. Yes, most P style basses do that to varying degrees. Fender do a "greasebucket" tone control (particularly on the HighWay One model) which avoids the volume loss.
6. Well congrats again, Graham Yes, keep the votes coming in - It really has been interesting to see how many Status basses there are out on BC that we haven't yet seen. Some more pics of your pride and joy would be good too. Looking forward to seeing Graham's S2000 when it comes back from Mecca...
7. I'd say that the Sandbergs have a modern "pingy" tone, although the California PM "Supreme" they have in Electro is a seriously nice bass at £1400. I've been very impressed with Mike Walsh's Aero pickup equipped Iceni Funkmeister. Serious Jazz sound with to die for build quality. Definitely worth a look. My fretless is stunning & I'm in the process of ordering a new body for the spare fretted neck from him. These basses have a serious "super" Jazz sound, but not sterilized like a Sadowsky - More like a slightly boosted classic Jazz sound.
8. That's good to hear, Gareth - Yes, I'm playing with my old trio on two gigs tomorrow. We all get along very well, but I've also moved on in life & don't play rock/pop any more. The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the sheer level of volume - I have the new set of filtered earplugs to prove it!
9. Congratulations, Graham What did you study in order to wear the hat & cloak? That was all a very long time ago for me...
10. The Hofner Contemporary Series model is very good. I owned one for a while & the only difficulty I had with it was the lack of dot markers on the side of the neck. Lovely instrument, though.
11.
This guy sounds like comedy gold to me. I particularly enjoyed the "potted" history of Lemmy's career, including "He made it into Hawkwind, and then on his own. His Mother stayed here, and he visited, as and when. Birthday's Christmas, Et cetera. (Probably when hungry too, that's when I see my Mother ha ha!)" But the best bit is the answer to the question about how much it would be to ship it to France - "Bonjour, I'm unsure because the Post Office is closed."!!!!! Ha ha!!!! Proper Del Boy! Listen, if he gets £200 for it then good on him. That's free enterprise. The idiots are the people who've already bid on it.....
Oh, bloody hell - Does that mean I'm not going to get my money back on it?!
12. Sat playing my main 4-string S2-Classic for a couple of hours today - After having played one of my 5-string versions pretty much all year, it's going to be good to get the 4 going again on two gigs tomorrow. I'd forgotten how ridiculously mind-bendingly fast the neck is compared to the wider 5er, which is a damned fast bass, anyway. Really looking forward to playing it in anger for the first time since the pantomime
13. Congrats, GW - Glad you like it - I guess this is the gigging variant of your 25th? I'd imagine the two don't differ a lot, do they? It certainly looks fantastic - From someone else with an eye for quality, sound & playability above mere looks
14. I've just learned to accept over time that a company like Fender will never have an instrument set up to your liking off the shelf, no matter which department it comes from. With my Road Worn & 50th Anniversary, both played like dogs off the shelf, but the basic tone I was looking for was there - The rest is up to me to put on the correct type and gauge of strings & set it up to my preference. Yes, companies like Sadowsky & Status spoil us to an extent - The significantly smaller production output makes the individual attention to each bass so much greater & the product that much better at the end of the day.
15. Bought a bass from Steven this week - Lovely guy to deal with, does exactly what he says on his 'tin Highly recommended!
16. Thanks, Steven - A pleasure dealing with you, mate!
17. It'd be the Sadowsky for me too, although they always feel and sound a bit generic and dull to me. In that price bracket, I'd be buying a bolt on Status S2-Classic 5-string (available headless or headed.) There's nothing better for the job - But that's just my opinion
18. Ouch! Severe GAS tension building eh, GW? Congrats on your new sealed box, anyway
19. The nitro finish on these makes a huge difference to the sound. I compared the one I had to an American Standard and the US bass sounded almost choked by it's poly gloss finish. Perhaps the 'holes' in the finish let more sound out or something?
20. Nice one, Ian - You can't beat a nice Jazz bass
21. Looks like our Michael is the official BassChat journalist from now on Nice work & a nice piece, Michael - Who's next?

23. Whine, whine, whine, moan, moan, moan... Some of you have waaay too much time on your hands!
24. "TheMoo" on here or just plain simple "moo" on Statii.com has a brilliant way of cleaning up the brass bits. Contact him and ask for his trade secret...
25. An ex Status employee mentioned on the other thread that his original S2000 had a wood core with a graphite shell around it. That explains the increased weight of some of the older instruments. Project? I don't think I'll be sawing any of my necks in half in a hurry!
