If you'd ever played one of those early Overwaters, you'd understand how astoundingly good they are. I'm still waiting for 'X to leave me this one in his will!
2. Go in calm and confident, Sarah. If you drop a note don't let on and just keep going. It's all about the complete performance at the end of the day. And... Best of luck! You'll be fine
3.
Are the status massive graphite or is it moulded and filled with a lighter material?
Yes, these days they're all basically graphite shells around another injected lighter material in order to save weight. They're still epically strong and have an even more resonant sound. The older models had a solid wood core within the graphite (like Graham's S2000), so these were a little bit heavier.
4. The Jaguar is worth the stack knob plate alone. If you don't like it, you can always transform your Jazz into a '62 RI
5. Looking good, mate - Hope it plays well for you tomorrow night!
6. Decided to bump the monster Status thread as I'm hoping there'll be some new stock basses to show soon...
7. Ed Friedland's review of the Airline Map Bass was pretty favourable...
8.
Malcolm.
If the poor bloke goes and advertises his bass as a "Fender Malcolm" now, you're going to feel sooo guilty!
9. My Iceni fretless neck is a work of art - Mike Walsh definitely knows what he's doing - It's not only made out of lovely figured wood, but has a proper ebony fingerboard with brass wire lines. Heavenly!
10. I think it's Paul H has a white slab edged one - A bit like an Aerodyne. Sounds nice, too. Here's the thread about the bass... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=88587
11.
I'm only selling this to get another Status bass!!
Top man!
12.
If you put a Fender Jazz neck (the king of necks) on a T'bird would it cure the neck dive?
Nope, the missing top horn is the big issue, but as I mentioned a moment ago, the body is naturally shaped for you to rest your plucking arm on top of.
13.
If a Thunderbird is held correctly (Right fore arm resting on back horn) there is no neck dive.
Quite correct. If you play the instrument at the correct height, rather than stupidly around your ankles or something like that, your arm rests naturally on the body edge, thusly eliminating neck dive. I've owned a couple of the Epi models & have found them to be perfectly useable basses. The active T'Bird Pro is a great bass for comparatively little money with a massive shove to it. I've also spent some time playing a "proper" Gibson model which I have to admit was a very nice bass. The pickup placement, thin neck & use of mahogany make this a great sounding bass with huge playability for every style. Maybe it's the looks that put people off? But yes, T'Birds are great.
14. Yes, the Eclipse was almost seen as a "sport" model in the 90's. They're great basses to play and definitely have "The Status sound" to them Do you have any more detailed pictures?
15. Nice enough looking bass, but a tad ambitious without a graphite neck in this financial climate. Best of luck with the sale
16. Depends on how silly it is - I can always say no thanks..
17.
+1 to Mike.... the only wooden Jazz I'd ever consider
Agreed, Jay - I'm very glad I chanced on mine - Because the Iceni Funkmeisters are so rare, I had no idea how good they were until I played mine in anger. Classic Jazz sound in spades with that extra lift and shove from the preamp. My second body is going to have Nordstrand big singles in it for a bit of variation, though. (The Aero pickups are much more expensive, too!)
18. That's a lovely colour scheme you have there - I preferred my ceramic pickup'd SR5 tp the 4 I had, just couldn't get on with the rough unfinished neck. Maybe I'll get another one at some point and get the neck refinished professionally
19.
I REALLY want one of these but I'm in bloody China!!
Hmmm... The postage would be more than the bass, wouldn't it?
20. The cabs are the Genz Benz Neox 12's. Obviously they sound better with the Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 amp (which I used at the following gig in the evening), but the Ashdown LG1000 head is fine for the Jam session.
21. Does the Variotone switch work properly - No cutting out or anything?
22. Played a couple of the Italia models. Not bad at all for the money. Have a look around the dealers. They usually go for pennies because it's not a well known brand compared to the main competition.
