1. No celebrity former owners here, but Miss.Myrtle did get her own two page spread in 'Performing Musician Magazine.'
2. If I'm playing double bass, I'll always have the Streamline in the boot of the car as a backup, should any accidents happen to the 'big fella'! I usually travel with a four and a five, but one of the two is predominantly used throughout any show. I also carry two amp heads. Genz 6.0 for main & Ashdown LG1000 as backup. You never know when that preamp valve is going to go...
3. THIS BASS IS NOW **SOLD** Thanks for all the interest!
4. Having had boutique basses for the last twenty years (amongst other high end string instruments), I'd be inclined to say that an expensive instrument flatters the player and almost makes them want to raise the bar and play better.
5. Okay, this bass is now under offer. More news when it happens. The owner will not accept trades on this bass, btw. This is a straight sale instrument.
6.
Hi rich , just out of interest , i play in a rock covers band, a soul band , funk band can statuses get alot of different tones in them or are they just status sounding? kindest regards john.
The basses always have that Status clarity and growl, John, but they are capable of a massive quantity of different sounds & styles. No matter what sound you create from your playing position/eq settings, you'll always cut through the mix like a scythe.
7. I've played this little Zon bass & it really is lovely - Massive sound with huge tone & hugely versatile for it's size - Like a wooden Streamline! Best of luck, Barrie - Having played the Victa bass you're wanting to buy, I can fully understand the "everything must go sale"!
8. "Tuxedo Funktion" "Let's Dance" "All For You" On the sillier side, I'd suggest, "Hezbollah & the Katucha Cowboys" or "<<Girl singer's name here>> & those psychedelic sailors on the rocking sea of groove"
9. Yep... Stingray with "SLO" neck option (the thinner profile from the Sterling.) Or, a Sterling - The Sterling has the more hifi/aggressive sound with the ceramic pickups. I LIKE IT!
10. Well done, Sarah! Now who's the Daddy?! (Or perhaps that should be "mummy"!)
11. Sorry you're parting with this so soon, Tony I'd have it back, but I had to cancel my Status purchase due to splitting up with the missus after ten years. Easy come easy go, eh?
12. I've met John a few times & he's a really nice guy - I was meant to be going to see Quo in Frankfurt this month, but splitting with the missus after ten years is proving expensive, so I've cancelled the trip Not only was John's playing with Julie Tzuke excellent, but also with Dexy's Midnight Runners. He's a great all round bass player, is Mr.Edwards. If you get a chance to see his band, "Rhino's Revenge" or the trio he does with his two sons, "Woodedz", get out there and have a look. They're all great bands! Rich
13.
I want..........I'm away to put a lottery ticket on. Can you hold it until the morning for me :-)
I hate to put a dampener on things, but with lottery odds, this bass is not going to be yours anytime soon However, having typed that, I may just be made to eat my words! Rich
14. **THIS BASS IS NOW SOLD** Many thanks for all the interest! Okay, this bass will be with me on Friday (owned by an ex-pupil who's now selling up) and is now for sale at £1350 or nearest offer. More detailed pics to come when it arrives with me. Specs are mahogany body with walnut centre tone block, spalted maple top, a nice amber tint, black hardware, monorail bridge units, Status board 302 3-band eq with micro switch for mid cut/flat/boost & Status hotwires 30-115 double ball end strings. Graphite through neck with two way trussrod & top string retainer capable of taking both double ball end or standard strings. The bass is in excellent condition - Anyone who knows these basses will know that the finish on the poly gloss is one of the toughest finishes around - Status use the same material they use for binding the graphite composites together to lacquer the instrument, so play this bass regularly, look after it and it will still look new in twenty years' time! This bass comes complete with the Status-branded Hiscox lifelite hard case. If interested contact me here, or email [email protected], or call with any questions/queries on 07545 471037. Rich.
15. Thanks, Barrie. The final contest of the tour was a great evening. I suppose the band gets pretty slick when you've done the show forty times since March! Len Goodman was on top form, btw - SEVEN!!!
16. Lovely too meet you, Phil! Yes, I loved the Fodera, but was totally bowled over with Barrie's Wil Lee Sadowsky - Could you tell?! Great to meet Toasted and to have a good chat with Barrie - It's been too long, mate
17. I'm a professional musician, but in the circles in which I play, I'm a bass player most of the time.
18. In terms of fun and developing skill... Learn to read!!! Some songs... Learn a walking bass line for a 12-bar blues/rock - Invaluable for so many jobs. Queen - Another one bites the dust Status Quo - Ain't Complaining (great for fills) Queen - Crazy little thing called love David Bowie - Let's Dance James Brown - I feel good That's all the function band stuff - I could go on and on, but you get the jist... In my world, there are sooo many essentials to know... I'm writing a book of jazz standard bass lines as we speak...
19. Nice, GW - You can do the review, then I must admit, they do look nice. Hope the quality is as good as the CV series.
20. There's a run on Geddy Lee's? Quick, call Gordon Brown - He'll prop up their values with tax payers' future earnings!
21. I've always liked the SR500. Yes, it's powered with Bartolini soapbars, but it's a stunning bass for a mere £400 new. On the subject of P&J setups, the sky's the limit. The immediate high-end ones that spring to mind are the new Fender Deluxe Precision which is a truly excellent bass & a used Sadowsky Metro PJ. Within budget though, you'll have to look through the cheaper Fender, Yamaha and Ibanez basses.
22.
Mmmm..... need to try a Status bass.......
Oops, did I accidentally generate some GAS there?
23. I like to look at it like this... I know I'll always be a Status player at the end of the day, so any other bass I try is entirely optional. I've always broken even overall on trades/buys/sells, so there's no harm in a bit of GAS and trying something new. The interesting thing is that I've met loads of great people in my BC travels & that you always know there's a good network of help behind you. What's the harm? Once you've found your nirvana, a bit of trading and speculating here and there does no harm at all.
