1. I'd be aiming around the £550-£600 mark, personally. There are people selling 08 onwards American Standards for around £650, so the older S1 models are naturally going to be worth less. Put up some pics of your bass on this thread & I'm sure someone will come along and buy it soon enough.
2. The Status basses are all strung on the Status Hotwire 30-90 (or 115 in the case of the 5-strings) sets for speed and flexibility. There's usually no loss of tone with such a powerful preamp, so the thinnest strings possible are a boon with the stability of the graphite neck. Wooden neck'd basses I tend to run on 40-100 sets of either DR FatBeams or Elixirs (I think the Elixirs are actually 40-95 sets.) I love the tone of the DR FatBeams. As I've said on here many times, I don't think anyone makes a better string set. The compromise between sheer bass end shove & high end sparkle is just about perfect with these.
3.
The status I was talking about the other day, which is it again Rich? its lovley!! & sounds Monster, really does! a keeper ( if a bit roadworn) Ill vote for that one!
Yours looks like one of the original S2000 models - Hang onto that one - Prices are going up on these!
4. **NOW SOLD!** Thanks for all the interest, guys! One 2010 Fender 50th Anniversary Jazz Bass! Features: Candy apple red nitro finish (including headstock.) 60's headstock logo (with the "offset contour" in the original position.) 62 reissue "chunky" neck profile with nitro glossed neck-back & posiflex graphite rods. Buffed rosewood fingerboard with pearl block markers. Hipshot ultra-light "F" tuners. 50th Anniversary neck plate (as pictured below.) 75 Reissue pickups. 70's pickup spacing. Vintage High Mass bridge with through body stringing. Chrome covers. American Vintage series hardshell case in black with black interior. So what to say about this magnificent Jazz? Well, if you want the "Marcus" sound, this one has it in spades! The combination of the 70's spacing & the thin nitro finish let the sound pound out & this bass is not short of output by any means! The 75RI pickups give it a seriously creamy punch with a lot of top end and it's a joy to play. Of all the Jazz basses I've owned the ones with the 75 pickups seem to have the best sound by a country mile! So it's a dream to play & looks great - The condition is utterly A1. I've treated the nitro finish with kid gloves & it still looks as new as when it came out of the store. As for the money side of things, I'm looking for £1400 for this instrument. Feel free to offer me something as a px towards the cost, such as a RoadWorn Jazz or cheaper Sadowsky, etc. In fact, let me know what trades you have (preferably with additional cash in my direction) and I'll politely answer any offers. Payment is to be via bank transfer or cash on the day. No PayPal. Any further info required, give me a shout on 07545 471037 - Rich. Here's a quick YouTube demo of the bass plugged directly into the computer mic socket...

6. I suppose I could take it off your hands. I have a spare fretted neck knocking around from my Iceni fretless bass. Maybe it would fit? What sort of money would you be looking for on this? Also, are all of the electrics still on board? I'm only about an hour away from you, so I could always drop in for a look. As for your output woes, there should be a plastic screw on the preamp board. If not, try moving the pickups closer to the strings. Rob recommends 4mm on the bridge pickup and 6mm on the neck pickup.
7. Nice to see so many Status players coming out of the woodwork, as it were
8. Careful Doddy... The 'build of that church looks intricate and delicate for such a massive sounding rig! Love the Shuker - Any more pics of it?
9. Young Felix has some serious gigging to do in order to get the BOD back, then! Nice to see it all resolved, but is it just me, or does the BOD look all wrong in the hands of a hard rocker?!
10. Get yourself a couple of double bass books - Yorke Method for double bass vol.1 & OUP's Double Bass solo 1, work through some of that stuff and use all of the double bass fingering. Then see if you can find a copy of "The Literate Bassist" by Fred Paterno on ebay or Amazon.
11. Are you sure this time, mate? Best of luck with the sale! I'm half tempted myself, just getting really into my latest fretless, but I also have no Alembics or Sadowskys, only a Jazz 50th Anniversary with the proper '62 chunky neck profile, but you'd have to prise that one out of my cold dead hands at the moment!
12.
Just the Streamline for me Rich (but you already know that). Would love a Stealth at some point tho.
Nice to see you again the other day, mate - I'll mention your wish for a Stealth to the Status gods of Val-Colchester-halla. Maybe they will be feeling generous?!
13. The "Matrix" tag was given to the headed models when they first came out in the early nineties. So you get the Series 1 Matrix, Series 2 Matrix, Empathy Matrix, etc. The original Matrix bass was a headed S1 with P & J pickups, graphite shell over walnut body & stacked treble/bass controls. Highly desirable bass.
14. Very nice rig, Sarah - Nice to see your Dean in the flesh at last. Lovely looking bass
15.
..but you couldn't hear the tone, let alone a difference! I love muse, but i don't understand why he has stopped using the pedulla live in the last few years, his tone has seriously suffered..
His tone? How can you possibly hear "tone" through all those nasty effects?!
16. A 4000 pickup? You're in! thanks for the reminder, Merton - Groove situation now rectified
17. With my favourite basses being in a few recent threads, I was wondering just how many Statii there are out there on BC at the moment? What attracts you to your particular choice of Status in terms of sound, playability & quality, etc?
18. Nice example of a Matrix Empathy there & an astonishing price as well. As for your query on the controls, the two small controls at the top should be the same size knobs as the others on an Empathy. Someone's changed those. The one closest to the front pickup is the pickup pan & the one closest to the micro switch is the volume. That's the correct order on a Status The three lower controls are of course active treble/middle/bass. Does this bass have the two way micro switch or the three way?
19. Most of the earlier model SII's during the mid-late eighties had a little toggle switch for active/passive. The S2000, S4000, S5000, etc only had the four rotary controls. Later "lesser" models had the three control layout with a single mixed treble bass control labelled "active boost." The S2/Matrix & Empathy ranges had either the four our five control layout (5 on Empathy) & usually no switch. When the micro switch returned on the S2-Classics fitted with 300-series preamp boards (to present, including KingBasses), it operated three ways for mid cut/flat/boost. So yes, some have the active/passive switch, but mainly earlier instruments. Remember though, this is just a rough guide - Rob has made a huge amount of custom instruments, so some will have extra added options according to the wishes of the original purchaser.
20. You won't find much better out there - But then again, you know that...
21. Here you go... Listen to the original recording from the Miles Davis "Kind of blue" album on you tube and follow this copy through. It'll all make sense
22. Hi Seb, the solo section is anything you like based on sixteen bars of Dm7, eight bars of EbM7 and then eight bars of Dm7. Scan coming through in a few mins...
23. So What is a bass-led line where you basically play the head. As soon as the drivers install for our new office printer/scanner I'll scan my lead bass sheet for you. It has the full layout on it
24. The easiest answer is to play more gently and turn the amplifier up I tend to get more wear and tear on the left hand fingers from vibrato, etc.
