1.
No, the guy I was hoping would give me some lessons seems to be too busy. And to be honest so am I at the moment. I do need lessons though and I may send you a PM next month some time though if things slow down a bit. Cheers.
You're welcome anytime, mate
2. Flamed - Looks expensive to me But judging by comments so far, it would seem "Austerity Britain" is catching on fast! Now, where did I put my ration coupons...?
3. Looking at your gear list, you've already got a nice setup, so I'd say be practical and get a few sets of your favourite strings in. Either that, or put the £150 together with your Dean Jeff Berlin sale and get a classic vibe Squier 60's Precision in Fiesta red. They're lovely things.
4. I used to boil years ago. Now I'll just order some more sets or if there's no time, I'll put a set in the oven on full power for about 20 mins. This causes the strings to expand and all the dirt drops out of the grooves. Okay, so they're not quite like new, but much much brighter. TerryK gave me that idea a while back.
5.
+1. I'm trying to learn how to bow at the moment, I've found it's a great test of the patience of my neighbours.
Are you having lessons at the moment? If not, I can always pop up to York and help you out for an hour - I'm dropping into York for some consultancy work quite a bit at the moment.
6. Best of luck with the sale - Go on Steve, you know you want it!
7. Soundclips sound really nice, especially the piezo sound. Still want the original Warwick Alien myself...
8.
Now you can vote which looks best - if you are really bored! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=90245&hl=
You have no idea how bored I am tonight, mate - But it's all good, as I start 6 days of solid gigs tomorrow!
9. I say keep it standard - The original rosewood neck looks best to me
10. Something fishy's going on here...
11. That'll be the rosewood for me. Original and best.
12.
I think you need to line up behind OTPJ.
Quite right, too - I've always wanted one of those, as BRX well knows! Lovely red Gus 5, X! Stunning piece of bass, that one. Not so sure on the aluminium scaffolding bass, though. Looks cool, but can't see it being a great playing tool.
13. Great sounding band! Where are you all from, btw?
14. Before I (like everyone else) start mentioning loads of different basses, perhaps you could tell us what the issue was with the B2AV? Too thin? Not enough output? Etc etc...
15. Hi again, Scott. You're better off finding a good teacher who will a. Teach you to read music as well as help you with your playing technique, and b. Teach you to use your ears to take down parts for yourself. They're both invaluable skills & the two combined will make you a better bass player.
16.
Dear bass agony aunt, the other half does not understand that the more gear i have, the more my willy will grow! how can i convince her of this fact, and simultaneously have more money for gear (as i am underpriveleged in the, ahem, gear department!) yours, pinkie!
Dear Pinkie, Tell your other half she should reverse her analogy by thinking of all the clothes she has bought over the years - Did said dress buying activities not result in the expansion of her posterior? Yours, The Baby Eating Bishop of Barthum-Wells.
17. Yes, the genuine Fender vintage reverse tuners will fit very well. They're the correct period design for the instrument as well.
18. Very nice as always, Michael What are those curiously shaped wooden plates on the tops of the necks of your basses with the shiny metal bits sticking out for, though?
19. It sounds as if you've got something that's worked it's way loose. Check the tuning keys are tight and not in a "loose spot" in between tensioning one way or the other. It could also be a weather change and the neck's moved a little, making the lower strings just slightly shimmer against the frets at some point. It could also be the truss rod has come slightly loose and is rattling, but that's also an easy one to get sorted - Just check the truss rod adjuster is tight when you put an hex wrench into it and not spinning loose. The other one which people miss sometimes is how the lower (thicker) strings are wound on the winding post - Make sure the strings are wound tightly from top to bottom, with the main string as low to the headstock as you can get it. This improves tension, particularly on E & B strings. Btw, I think you meant "bear with me" - If we were to "bare" with you, I don't think you'd like the results!
20. Very nice basses, Gareth. I'm sure I've seen your new B2 somewhere before. Did the previous owner feature it on Statii or something? I think I made some comments on your B1 a while ago when you first got it - Needless to say, you have a piece of history there. I have a feeling it's the bass you'll never sell Congrats on a stunning pair!
21. I thought the Jaguar had been discontinued from the Fender range? If this is the case, it could move to the Squier range, but more likely than not this is probably someone's wishful thinking.
22. Haha! Sorry GW, I thought you were the OP for a minute. I can't find a link to it anywhere, either.
23. Where did you find this, Grand Wazoo?
24.
It's a cheap wood they use on the Affinity series, not too bad actually.
Quite strangely, agathis is the more expensive wood. The Affinity is made from alder, but the more expensive Standard Series, VMJ fretless and VMJ Precision are made from agathis. I guess you get different grades and qualities of them all, because if my Jazz is made from the same alder as an Affinity, I seriously want to know why!!!
25.
I could probably live with that. Actually why am I thinking of buying two basses just for a blocked board? Stupid, stupid... I should just buy any old Jazz and get some dude to put blocks on it for me.
Or even get a Jazz you really like and sod the blocks. It's only decoration, after all
