1. That's a lovely example of these old US Custom Shop Eagles.. I had one of these in the early 90s that I picked from The Bass Centre in Wapping and I think it was probably the best 4 string bass I've ever owned. Mr Foxen of this very Parish owns it now I believe... In terms of sound, playability and tonal options these are just fantastic instruments. I have the passive version of this, and it's a wonderful bass too, but it doesn't have the versatility that this one does. Anyway, it's great to see one of these come for sale on here for a change. GLWTS
2. Well done! I think a lot of us bass players have a secret hankering to play the drums. I always have, and you've really got me thinking now..?
3. All PMs replied to but it is still for sale...
4. Bassworld begat Basstalk begat Basschat, is how I seem to recall it. There was some gnashing of teeth between the co-founding cyber overlords for a while (that deprived us of the bass portal we'd all become so dependent on) , but it was over matters far above the understanding of us lowly GAS suffering mortals. I only joined Bassworld in 2006, so I'm just a latecomer to all this really..
5. Thanks Tomas, Have just read both your PMs and will reply soon.. Nik

9. Now SOLD - thanks for looking! Hi Folks Because of an impeding house move, I'm putting this vintage 1970's, UK built, Hayman 40 40 Stereo Bass up for sale priced at SOLD, which will include a gig bag. Insured shipping (which is what I'd always recommend when sending valuable gear) would be on top of that of course. It was set up and strung with a set of D'Addario Chromes at last September's South East Bass Bash and plays really nicely, though it's hardly been used since then to be honest so the strings have loads of life in them! For it's age, this bass is in good working order and condition, though the stereo electronics could do with being checked over and being given a clean. The fretboard is in very good condition and the frets have a lot of life left in them too.. Truss rod is fine and works well and the neck is very stable.. To play, I would describe it as being quite a fast neck, though that's just my opinion and may be in part how I've had the action set up combined with the excellent condition of the maple fingerboard? In terms of sound/tone, the 4040s have been described as being a bit like a hybrid between a Rick and a P Bass, but I think that's only part of the story.. IMHO, the bridge pick up has a mid tone to it that is very reminiscent of the Wal Pro models from the 1970's and the neck pick has more of a P Bass thump - all of which combines to make a very powerful sound with a lot of definition to it when the neck pick up is blended in... It is a 'stereo' bass but I've yet to really explore what the stereo options give you, but I expect that if that's your bag, then the stereo capability would add yet another tonal dimension to it. When I got it earlier this year, I thought it might satisfy a hankering I've had for one of these for many years - partly because of it's visual resemblance to an old Wal Pro bass I had back in the 90's and the very retro hardware (which I really love) - but to be honest, I'm not enjoying it as much as I'd hoped.... And, like most 4 string basses I've had in the last 13 years, it just hasn't managed to displace my BC Rich Eagle from being my 'go to' bass, but that's not a surprise because the Eagle is just awesome! Anyway, as a result, though this is quirky, retro and has a real unique character all of it's own, it's just not getting used as much as it should and right now, and with a house move coming up, it's time to let it go to someone else who's going to make better use of it than I have. When I originally put up this post, I didn't have time to include some links, so here's some that can show you / tell you a bit more about these very collectable basses: http://basschat.co.u...__hayman%204040 http://basschat.co.u...040-bass-value/ https://www.talkbass...n-4040.1066116/ https://www.guitarbr...yman-4040-bass/ http://www.musicrada...c-basses-508349 In the interests of full disclosure, I must point out that this is quite a heavy bass, though I have managed a few gigs with it without too many problems.. But will check the weight accurately and will post it up here ASAP. As ever, I'm always happy to post items and were that to be the case, I would ensure it is very well packaged up indeed.. Much better of course, would be collection in person and anyone with a genuine interest is very welcome to come and visit and try it out at their leisure. Tea & biscuits plus lots of 'Bass Chat' are always on offer to fellow bassists! Though I think I'd prefer a straight sale, a trade for some kind of P Bass could tempt me, so please send me a PM if you have anything along those lines or you have any questions? As ever, thanks for looking and if you've any questions, please ask here or send me a PM. Cheers Nik
10. I recently approached Alex about the Tokai Hard Puncher that he's selling. Although I haven't bought it (mainly because I haven't been able to try it out in person), Alex went out of his way to try and help me come to a decision, including recording a video of him playing the bass just so I could get a rough idea of how it sounds. Whilst I was humming and hawing around for ages, Alex was really patient and helpful with me, which says a lot about the kind of person, and the kind of Basschat forum member he is. So, thanks a lot Alex - sorry it didn't work out this time! And for anyone else looking to deal with him, you can take it from me and everyone else who's already left feedback here, that Alex is a great person to deal with. Cheers Nik
11. A great sounding bolt-on bass is something to treasure, as is a great sounding through-neck bass. Fortunately, I have one of each.. Are they different sounding? Yes, I think so - the through-neck basses I've owned had a sound and feel that set them apart from bolt-ons I've owned, but it's more a case of being different rather than better. Just my 2p worth..
12. Great cab and so tempting.. but I have far too many cabs as it is. Matt is a great guy to deal with btw, so buy with in complete confidence! GLWTS
13. I've been lucky enough to have a play of this bass and it sounds great! IMO, it looks the part too, and it's so, so light as well - perfect for long gigs. GLWTS
14. That's a bargain price for such a great and quite unique bass! GLWTS
15. I'm with rushbo, molan, ambient and TrevorR on this...and Mr Winston Churchill too. In my opinion, learning how to play an instrument, collaborate with others in playing and performing music, developing your communication and interpersonal skills - whilst having a great time doing it and gaining a better sense of self-esteem in the process - are invaluable life lessons and experiences that stand you in good stead for the rest of your life! My only negative thought about this initiative is the amount of money involved ; it'd produce much better long-term outcomes if they would put 5 or 10 times the amount of money into it.
16.
Yes, another legend gone. 2017 please be kinder. R.I.P.
+1 Another unique voice gone... Just too many this year.
17. Yep, we're all different.. Personally, I think she's astonishingly brilliant and unique as a songwriter, singer and performer and that her contribution to British music will stand the test of time. Hounds of Love and Aerial are two works of absolute genius IMHO, and both albums formed the basis of her 'Before the Dawn' live show that I was privileged enough to see two years ago, and I'm hoping that the live CD she's just released will be as fabulous as the show itself was.
18.
"Time" - again the lyrics are almost unbearably true - how did Waters at 28 when he wrote it, understand so well how it feels when one is 60? It is going to be played at my funeral, in the Gilmour "Live at Gdansk" version - that guitar solo is again almost unbearably poignant. I can only listen to it once a year at most, headphones clamped on and weeping.
My sentiments exactly... The lyrics astonish me every time I hear them. And the original guitar solo on the record is one of my favourite guitar solos ever.
19.
6/8 Love the way it rolls along. It can be perfect for a ballad or rocking out. I also love the fact this is a genuine question / thead!
+1 Always loved 6/8
20.
Dark Side's a masterpiece - a band at the point where all their planets lined up.
+1 I love DSOTM, but Wish You Were here is also a real favourite..
