I will try to sell my Les Evans, Zoot Custom fretless 5, Bass collection SB320 and Bongo 5 H/S next year I promise The pile of cases and gigbags in my spare room is ever so impressive. Not on the ceiling yet though. Peter
No need to rush... you'll only regret selling them in the end, I always do
Indeedy - next time it shall not be the car park of Tesco's followed by the car park of a pub! (Hope the lunch was OK btw!)
Definitely! Lunch was good thanks...
  3.
It was... it's now in Italy.
Sincere commiserations WoT
  4.
I've just put the old pots back into my Lakland DJ and bugger me I can't get the control knobs back on - even using quite a bit of force. Is it possible they've shrivelled up with age or do you think it's possible they're the wrong knobs. The Gallery fitted the J-Retro I just took out so I'd be surprised if they belong to another bass. Is it time to get the Vaseline out or a hammer? Shall I warm 'em up a bit in the oven?
Difficult problem - sounds like a WD40 or Vaseline job Homer I reckon... Worried about this cut and paste though from your post: "..and bugger me..knobs.. using..force..shrivelled up with age..they're the wrong knobs..time to get the Vaseline out.." I know you like your DJ4, but that's going a bit too far
  5.
Coincidence, I've got 14 basses. Sold my R1200GS this year and gave up after 37 yrs of biking. Peter
Thought you had a big bass clearout recently Peter? Or has the GAS come back even stronger this time?
  6.
My first bass was a Kay "Gibson Les Paul" shape that cost me about £50 out of my mum's catalogue! I paid for it myself from my earnings from my paper round. The action on it was terrible. The strings were about 2 inches above the neck. Maybe that excuses me all my bad habits nearly 30 years later
My first bass was a Kay bass, similar to the one you've described.. Cost £22 from Woolies in 1975 (I think) and it was pretty awful, but it got me started. Then I persuaded my Mum to buy me this Hondo Ricky from a catalogue, which I still have! This year, I've done a bit of work on it; replaced the tuners which had broken, had the neck sorted out etc, so it's vaguely playable again.. But really it's there as a memento of my first years in a proper gigging band and, more importantly, of my Mum.
  7.
Indeed, the Silverfox is the man. I have had the pleasure of two clandestine meets under the cover of night at Clacket Lane, and each one has been rewarded with good gear (musical I hasten to add), incisive conversation, and good humour. Defo one of the good'uns
Cheers Chris! "Defo one of the good'uns" yourself mate Am getting Clackett Lane withdrawal symptoms to be honest but haven't got anything to sell at the moment and am full up in the bass dept. so can't buy either of those two very nice P-basses you're in the process of selling..
  8.
I think that the current financial climate, proximity to Christmas, increased fuel prices and he fact that the market is full of kit is resulting in very low prices.
That sums it up just about right. Plus of course, there is so much great gear around it actually makes it possible to be a bit choosy..
  9.
I am currently considering selling my Lakland Darryl Jones 5 Stringer in order to fund a new "project" (all to be revealed at a later stage). It's in absolutely mint condition and comes with the official Lakland hard case (which has a few dings). The bass is white with a maple fingerboard and has 3 pickguards with it; white, black and tortoise (made by Jeannie's Pickguards). In addition, it now has a John East J-Retro fitted to it (I still have the Lakland Passive unit safe too). I've put a couple of photos up. I'll try to take a few more, but it really is in mint condition, so you'll pretty much know what you're getting anyway. Price-wise, I'm looking for £880 including the J-Retro and £830 without it. P&P to be agreed at a later stage. You could probably find cheaper if you looked around, but you won't easily find one in this condition for this sort of money. It's also set up beautifully and is incredibly easy to play. I'm not looking for trades at this stage, but PM me if you have any questions at all. Thanks for looking.
I've got the passive model in LPB and they are wonderful sounding basses! Good luck with the sale, looks like a great bass.
  10.
Like, I need an excuse...!
That Antigua Jazz is beautiful!
  11. probably a few more than this if I sat down and thought about it but, thinking back, I should have bought a Fender Musicmaster 15 years ago for £75.. and about 8 years ago, I should have bought a beautiful Musicman Sabre for £600..

    Merton
Well I've sold a couple of bits now, selling or giving away a couple more, time to tell me how much of an ass I am!
Just bought some Celestion drivers of Merton and it was as easy and straightforward a bit of business as I've ever done on Basschat. He's a great bloke and I'd totally recommend him to anyone here who's thinking of buying/selling their gear with him! It was really good to meet up with you Merton; thanks for sorting it out so quickly! Look forward to seeing you again at some point soon, hopefully with that Status Groove 5 tucked under your arm Cheers Nik
  13.
Perfect! Just met Nik in person to hand over the two Trace/Celestion drivers, lovely bloke to deal with, nice and simple "transaction". Thanks
Hi Merton Pleasure to meet you yesterday.. Thanks for the drivers and for delivering them and for the feedback - much appreciated! Equally, it was a perfect transaction for me too. Will leave you some feedback now... Also, thanks Ped + Peter for the positivity; totally reciprocated of course!
  14. I use a DBX MC6 which is based on the DBX 160a model, so it's pretty good quality technology. Very easy to use, has an auto-mode so it'll do it all for you and can be used on any instrument or even your recordings to great effect. It's not something you see often but it is a great compressor for the money - better than any Boss Pedal I've tried or the Trace Elliot SMX pedal I had, though I've no idea how it would stack up against DHA or EBS etc. It's not a rack model or a pedal design, so has to be looked after carefully, but I wouldn't be without it now... Picked mine up new off Ebay for £25.00 from the States and it cost me £12.00 to get it shipped over. Nik
  15.
...and so it goes on.... The maple neck's the new Kylie, the rosewood Danni....
Lovely 70s retro vibe Chris! Do you have to wear flares when playing them Nice speaker in the background too.....
  16.
It's all about context. Discussions about compromise are all relative because time, space and the immutable laws of physics are a compromise in an absolute sense, but all limitations are also gateways to liberation... stay thoughtful, Steve
That's good advice - not just about music but about life in general, I'd say! Totally beats 'my amp go up to No.11'
  17.
I think it may have sweated some of it out. Don't feel quite so cr@ppy today. HURRAH!!! As for work, I shall probably catch up on some stuff this weekend and have been doing bits pieces at least one of which I know has saved one office probably 2-3 days of someone typing details into software we use by adapting a bit of VBA I wrote to build import files for the software from data in an Excel spreadsheet, so not too guilty.
Hi Al, Glad to hear it went well and you're feeling a bit better.. Sorry not to have made it along too! Must catch up with you soon (before Xmas) to return your Rush DVD + CDs and have THAT PINT that I owe you!! Nik
  18.
Gorgeous!
+1, beautiful looking bass...
  19.
Any carrots?
Homer, surely you mean diced carrots and Creme de Menthe?? Seriously though WoT, well done for keeping going and retaining some dignity throughout!
  20.
Went to an audition for a band last night. Was really apprehensive, but knew I’d learnt the 4 songs they asked me to do, so gave it my best shot and got the job! Absolutely over the moon. Definitely makes all the work worthwhile. Now, just got to learn another 4 songs before Wednesday! Big thanks to Old Git for his help and support, it’s really appreciated.
Congratulations! That's a great feeling when it works out like that..
  21. Hi WoT, I'm interested in this depending on the dimensions and what john_the_bass wants to do as he got in first. It'd have to posted though as I'm on the south coast.. Please keep me in the loop, thanks. Nik
  22. That Groove 5 is a real beauty!
  23.
2x 10" 100W 16 ohm speakers from my Trace 2103H cabinet. Replaced last month becasue I thought one was blown, but: 1) I can't remember which one 2) I'm not convinced it ever was the problem as the rattle is still there after all and is a loose handle (search Amps and Cabs for the thread history, yes I'm a tit but I thought I'd checked them) Anythoo, I prefer the Eminence speakers that are in the cab now and these are getting in the way in my new pad. Since one is still definitely OK and I think the other one is too I figured I'd flog 2 for the price of one cheap one, then you may be lucky or you may be REALLY lucky! £17.50 for the pair They're heavy so will cost about a tenner to ship I think.
PM'd
  24. I had one of these a few years back - great bass and what Gareth says is completely spot on! Yours looks like it's in great condition too... I sold mine at the time in 2004 for about £550, so your pricing is pretty fair I'd say. Good luck with the sale John!
  25. Hi Folks, Just received a free set of Grolsch straplocks from Stewblack which has helped out massively with my BC Rich eagle bass, so that now the straplock assembly isn't digging into my ribs everytime I use it! Stew's a perfect gent to deal with and will happilly deal/trade/share with again. Not only that, he's also another of the shining examples of what makes Basschat such a great community to be part of! Cheers Nik
