After all, the biggest band ever "The Beatles", had one of the worst names ever IMHO. Mind you, having said that, I was in a band once and we were really struggling to find a name and it was stopping us moving forward.. So, to try and take the emotion out of the situation, someone we knew suggested we use a scientific approach to finding a name in order to stop us continually arguing and disagreeing over the issue. IIRC, it was something like this: 1) We each came up with a list of 10 names we liked. With 5 band members, we had 50 names in the pot. 2) Over a pint or three and by voting for the ones we liked, we whittled the list of 50 names down to just 5 names. 3) We went away and each asked 10 friends to vote for their favourite names from the list of 5, scoring their favourite name with a '5' and their least favourite name with a '1'. 4) We then added up the scores and the name with the highest score was the name the band chose. The name we came up with was 'Kickback' if I remember and though it wasn't brilliant, we all liked it enough and for the time i.e. late 1980s, it was pretty good. The best thing about it though was the fact that we didn't actually choose the name, our mates did it for us. And as it them who came to all our gigs, it was a very democratic process.. Band was pretty rubbish though!!

So..This morning, the speaker that UK SameDay (via the APC network) were delivering for me, arrived safe and sound. Not only that, it was a day early and there wasn't an extra charge for a Saturday delivery, which some couriers like Parcelforce will charge you for. Communication along the way was excellent; they even rang me yesterday to say they couldn't get it to me Friday, so it would have to be Saturday morning. I didn't mind because I'd paid for a 3 day service and wasn't even expecting it until Monday! Even better still, this service turned out to be £14.00 cheaper than Parcelforce quoted me, until Parcelforce realised they couldn't ship something over 30 kg, which this speaker is, so they withdrew that quote?? I suppose the only way to really discover if the insurance UK SameDay quoted me is valid, would be if the item was damaged or lost in transit and I had to start making a claim? Fortunately, that hasn't been the case..

    Looks bloody brilliant to me! Well done on achieving what you want sound-wise and looks wise..I heard a DarkStar pick up on one of OBBM's Lakland basses at the SE Bash and it was just fantastic so I can imagine what yours sounds like... Nik

Nik[/quote] I just checked on the insurance and have been told categorically that there is £13.00 insurance cover for every kilo delivered. So a speaker cab weighing 50 kg is covered for £650.00 Special items like guitars can be discussed on a case by case basis, but an extra £1000 insured value costs an extra £10 which isn't too bad in comparison to other couriers. There are things they will not cover so in each case, they advise you to discuss your item with them. As well as all that, they are cheaper than Parcelforce too, so I'm still happy to give them a big thumbs up!

    As a follow-up, I just wanted to say that Rush were brilliant at Wembley on Tuesday night, though from where I was sitting, the sound could have been a bit better. I'm still not that familiar with the songs but as a live band, they really have something a bit special about them. The drummer did a great solo in the second half and powered through the songs all night long. The guitarist, who someone here very amusingly said "..is slowly morphing into Peter Schmeichel , played more guitars in one show than I've ever seen!! Very good player though.. Geddy Lee is talked about a lot on bass forums including this one and certainly, he's very impressive to watch from a bass playing point of view. But to be honest, I was more blown away by his songwriting abilities and his ease at connecting with the audience. As I said to my friend from the States who sorted out the tickets, there's something almost 'shamanic' about Geddy which i didn't expect at all. As for his basses and sound, I'd have loved to have heard him play his Wals, but he gets a great sound out of his array of Jazz basses. I was surprised that when he used his Rickenbacker in the encore, it didn't really cut through the mix IMHO. Quite how he does it all; sing, play bass, play keyboards, use footpedals and lead the band, I don't know. He's obviously a very talented person!! Best thing though was his sense of humour, as shown by his choice of bass rig which I'm not quite sure how to describe, but here's a picture of it: [attachment=2811:Oct_07_223.jpg] I'd definitely go and see them again, that's for sure...     Just wanted to add a massive +1 for APC!!! They've just been brilliant helping to sort out shipping a cab for me that none of the other couriers would touch because of the weight of it. Not only that, I've been able to speak to them directly without going through an awful call-handling system that takes ages and costs time and money. Everyone I spoke to there was friendly and helpful and that alone made such a difference... So a big thanks to them at APC and an even bigger 'no thanks' to all the others!     Hi mybass As you say, the RBVs are discontinued, so this is quite a rare beast now.. When I had a play on it a couple of months back, I was amazed at the range of tones you can get out of it for a passive bass and it is LOUD! The pick ups put out a lot.. I can definitely vouch for the fact that it's in absolutely immaculate condition and plays beautifully. The other thing that impressed me was the low B, which is excellent for a 34" scale neck. By the way, Roscoe Beck is the ace bassist in the excellent USA guitarist Robben Ford's band. I still use the 4 string version but this 5 stringer has refused to go out with me, prefering to sit indoors and watch the TV, so here it is! I am not certain if the 5 stringers are available anymore, some saying they have been discontinued. I happen to think that this Shoreline Gold is also the best colour for this bass model. I would much prefer any buyer to pickup or meet up somewhere but postage and insurance can be arranged. I hope he doesn't mind me saying but "Silverfoxnik" has seen this bass and could vouch for its condition. One Basschat member has seen this bass a while back so the above description is as true as can be.[/quote]

    Hi Folks, I'm going to see Rush at Wembley Arena on Tuesday night and have to drive up there from the south coast which is normally a 2 to 3 hour journey depending on traffic. And with Wembley always being busy on gig nights I can see that I'm going to struggle to get there in time for the show. So I wondered if anyone knew what time the band normally goes on stage (doors are at 7.30pm), whether they have a support band and roughly how long they play for? It's going to be too late for me to get a train back so I really do need to take the car but I'm worried I won't get there in time..Especially with having to find a parking space as well... I'm looking forward to it but I'll definitely enjoy it more if I can reduce the travel stress that goes with it!! Cheers Nik

    Very underrated basses, these! I'm surprised there's been no replies or takers for this.. perhaps it's because it's not such a well known Status model? I had one for about 5 years and liked it a lot. Only sold it to fund buying my Wal. Good luck with the sale!

BTW folks, I didn't mean to open a great big debate up about Rush, though it is very interesting to read it all and thanks for the help. Like all bands that are successful and have been around a long time, they obviously divide opinion which to my mind is a good thing. Much rather that than be middle of the road and keep everyone happy.. I'm going to listen to some of the songs beforehand that people have suggested but I'm expecting that they will be much better live than on record. Great players and great bands always are and I'm looking forward to that whatever the records sound like! Cheers Nik
