In the current trend of posts - how about gigs you went to full of expectation that left you feeling really deflated at the end? Always going to be subjective, of course, but I think for me it was Joe Bonamassa some years back at the Royal Albert Hall. At that point I had most of his back catalogue and a live DVD at Rockpalast and was excited at the prospect of seeing someone who was widely being lauded as the 'new' talent in blues guitar perform live. It was dire. How they managed to get such a poor sound at the RAH is beyond me, but they did - only sorting it out around half way through. And it was all about Joe showing off his licks all night. All speed, no taste, no space, almost a different guitar for each track for Mr Bonamassa to masturbate with. Eric Clapton shuffled on to a 1 minute standing ovation, dusted off one of his bog standard, middle of the road solos and got another 2 minute ovation at the end. Paul Jones shuffled on and played what might well have been a blindingly good harmonica solo but Joe masturbated over it and you couldn't really tell. Did I say it was dire?
+1,000000 If you're talking about the 2009 gig, I was there unfortunately - guest of a friend who had tickets. I'd never heard of the guy before and have never wanted to since.. I've never experienced such a pile of soulless fret-w**k in all my life. It was so devoid of genuine blues and soul, it made someone as 'robotic' as Gary Numan (albeit a completely different genre of music) sound soulful in comparison. IMHO, Bonamassa has no charisma, no voice, no songs and his guitar playing leaves me completely cold. I'm not particularly a Clapton fan either, but his appearance was the only good bit of the show.
Bowie....dividing opion, illiciting strong(ish) feelings both ways....and most importantly, people are talking about him. Back to his best.
+1 As a life-long Bowie fan, it's fantastic to see him still pushing boundaries, taking risks and staying true to his artistic intentions.. He's truly inspirational I think! Thought the last album was a bit patchy in terms of song quality, but the first single from it - 'Where Are We Now' - was as good a Bowie song IMO as any from his really creative high point in the 70's. Can't wait for the new album now..

This bass was mine for three months and whilst I had it, it reminded me of an Alembic Rogue I played once.. Not tonally of course, but in terms of the way it played; the build quality, the feel of that gorgeous 2-octave through neck and ebony fretboard and it's beautiful maple body. The other brilliant feature is the P/J pick up configuration with the Piezo - absolutely fantastic versatility in that design. If money was no object, I'd have kept this bass, stored it safely and kept it for those once or twice a year occasions when I gig with a band I'm in that plays Steely Dan covers. Sorry its not for you Tim, but this bass is definitely 'The bass' for someone here in Basschat! Nik

Just sold Tim a TRB5P and it was a simple and straightforward a Basschat transaction as you could get; a few PMs back and forth, a few £'s changed hands and that was pretty much it I'm pleased to say. Throughout, Tm was a gent to deal with and very quick in responding to messages, payments etc. Am happy to highly recommended Tim to one and all here on Basschat! Hope you enjoy the bass Tim. Nik

Thanks Gents, T'was a pleasure dealing with you both! Regards Nik
Crazy price for such a quality instrument!! The J/MM/J pick up configuration is unusual too, which must yield a huge array of tones.. Cool '70s J bass looks - what's not to like? Surely someone will take it off your hands at this price.. GLWTS
Actually having to quote myself because I still can't believe this is here at this price...

SOLD Hi Folks After having owned this cab for 8 years or so, I've decided to put it up for sale for SOLD. plus p&p. I bought it on here from Lee-Man in 2007 and have probably done about a 200-300 gigs and countless rehearsals with it in that time, and it's been great! However, much as I love the sound of these cabs, I have two reasons for selling it; (i) I've got too many cabs anyway, and (ii) I've got two of these cabs, having bought another one recently.. Condition, photos In terms of condition, it's not too bad but it is a little but rough around the edges to be honest.. When I get time during daylight hours, I'll try and get some more detailed pictures taken and uploaded.. But for now, here it is pictured at the South Eat Bass Bash a couple of years ago: The cross-shaped black gaffa tape that's across the front of it can be removed quite easily, but I put it on there to stop the speaker grill from vibrating which it did at certain frequencies. Not the most elegant of fixes, but it worked. Sound Sound-wise, if you look on the internet, the jury's out about full-range bass cabs but for me, I've found the Triad to be a very versatile cab, capable of delivering fantastic lows with quite an articulate mid-range and a sweet top end. I remember Alex Claber A/B-ing his prototype Super 12T against this cab at one of the Bashes about 4 or 5 years ago, and although the Super 12T was capable of taking more power (and it's a lot lighter obviously), the sound of the two cabs side by side was actually quite similar - something Alex commented on at the time.. Here's a review posted on Musician's Friend some years ago: "I've been gigging with the SWR Triad cabinet for exactly 10 years this month. It's been through all sorts of music to include acoustic world type music to heavy progressive. This is the clearest sounding cabinet I have ever heard. You will hear every nuance across the frequency spectrum." (http://www.musicians...-speaker-system) Weight The Triad is not light; it weighs in at approx. 82lbs, so it's not the lightest cab that's ever been built... but because it has really strong handles on the side of it, I found that with a bit of practice and either a decent trolley or castors, it's been manageable for me. Trades, shipping etc Just to clarify that I'm not looking for any trades on this thanks. Viewings welcome if you'd like to hear it first and I m happy to ship it at your expense.. Any questions, please ask here or PM me.. Thanks for looking! Nik
