  1. Right just an update, it's not the amp or the preamps, it's the bass. Currently my Wal has a dodgy jack connection which I'm waiting to get a replaced as it is quite an unusual component. Do any of you guys reckon that this might cause the distortion? It totally feels like the battery needs changed but it's a new battery. The bass sounds great then after about a hour playing it starts to distort could it be the battery is always running?
  2. Lovely, I'm really liking precisions at the minute and that one looks the dogs.
  3. I've went off the idea now!
  4. Thanks I'll have a look in the for sale section, the bass has been appraised by a respected luthier so I'm going to give him a call. The bloke selling it has given quite a lot of info I don't think it's schonky in that respect just thinking of a fair price.
  5. Anyone got any idea what a mid 70s jazz, all original apart from an older neck should come in at? I've saw one and I like it just don't know much about fenders!
  6. This is a really beautiful bass probably a godsend you wont post or I might be breaking into the kids piggy bank!
  7. Cheers guys the bass was just in to get a broken battery snap fixed and I replaced the battery but I'll change it just to check. On the amp front the drummer in my band heard the fan really whining so over heating is potentially an issue. Sorry about the sh*t thread title!
  8. Alright folks my rig has started distorting quite badly I thought I'd blown the speakers in my cabs, however, I went for a quick jam with my drummer and the bass sounded tremendous initially but then got progressively more distorted. Could it be the power amp? It's both channels. Also I noticed the jack on my bass was a bit noisy could a dodgy connection on the bass result in this farty distortion? I'm going to try another bass asap.
  9. I actually emailed the seller and he kindly met me and showed me the bass, it was immaculate, a real beauty. Though I'm quite surprised at how much it went for, I was all set to offer 2500 but it just went through the roof.
  10. Cheers man I'll give that a try I, unfortunately the mic is out of the question as I don't want to incur the wrath of an angry two year old! It's essentially a guide and will be rerecorded but I still would like it to sound half decent.
  11. Hi folks I need some tips on the best software amp for a fretless, I'm using logic I have guitar rig and amplitube, (the ampeg VSX demo won't work which is infuriating). When I play through my amp the bass sounds great, even taking into account my liberal view of tuning but when I go through the audio interface it's sounds flat and not very fretlessy. The fretted basses sound fine. I am something of a luddite when it come to EQ and all that jazz so does anyone have any suggestions, I have a small person and can only do this in the evening so I can only DI. It's a small section of a very long tune so I'm not looking for the ultimate tone but just something that doesn't sound sh*te.
  12. I have to admit playing the bass is great, my new Wal has just given me a real boost again and I'm loving it. I had a jam with the drummer in my band the other night, we've played together for 20 years, two old baldy fellas both wearing ear defenders years too late after being deafened by his ridiculously loud drumming and we just had the best time, I feel sorry for folk who don't have something that gives them this level of sheer fun.
  13. Ken is the man!
  14. I've joined the Wal club, Mk1 1983 wenge facings, this bass has been owned by a couple of BCers but now it's all mine and I'm loving it! [attachment=90064:wal.jpg]
  15. Bought Alan's Wal, no problems he was very helpful and gave me lots of info, recommended!
  16. Cheers man I'm really looking forward to it, you had any more interest in yours it's a beauty?
  17. My brother is making his way up to Chilly Jocko land from the Smoke with my new bass in tow (cheers Alanbass1) and I'm suitably excited.
  18. Looks great really cool.
  19. I think it's unhealthy to have so many Wals and you guys should think about offloading at least one of them ...... to me!
  20. I've used hide glue a few times on various cracks and it's generally worked well, I have wondered about the humidity in the flat, though I live in Glasgow so you wouldn't imagine humidity would be a problem but it might be central heating.
  21. Every day there seems to be another crack on my old B&H bass, been using it at rehearsals for my prog band because it just sounds so good, I dunno what it is but it just has a great tone, even makes me sound okay. Laid it down to pick up my electric and saw a big crack along the seam and a bunch of varnish flaking, I'm sure I can clamp and glue the seam but the bass seems to be disintegrating which is a great shame, I don't think I'll be taking it out of the house anymore!
  22. Cheers Paul I think I'll go for some silver slaps as well, I have a festival at the weekend and the band plays pretty much all afternoon for two days and my fingers are in quite a bad nick from my Saturday gig, I think it was a combination of steels and a really hot sweaty club, my drummer suggested talcum powder to stop my fingers getting tacky but a bit late now!
  23. Everybody swears by silverslaps, I had the black tapewound Rockabilly Innovation Strings, they were great for slap but I think they lacked a bit of projection but that might be all non-steel strings. I restrung the bass with Honeys which sound great but to be honest after the blisters I have from last nights gig I'm thinking of putting them back on! I'd be really interested in hearing the suggestions as well.
  24. Cheers chaps much appreciated I'll give your suggestions a go.
