  1. I play my squire classic vibe 60s P with flats through my very clean sounding Phil Jones rig. Still sounds gutsy like a classic P and suits the blues trio nicely.
  2. Wow, fantastic. Thanks for posting. Have to say I love these threads about touring and big shows.
  3. Oh my word, that is gorgeous. Someone will snap this up. I'm no expert but that seems like a really good price.
  4. Yeah, saw her set. Great voice and she knows how to work a crowd.😁
  5. Seems a lot better this time through the telly. As an example, George Ezra's bass player is nice and prominent in the mix. He's playing a Lakland jazz and Fender P mainly. Great band all round.
  6. Great band. If they'd had a different name I think they would have been a lot bigger. He's a real talent and his/Anna's voices blended brilliantly. Recommended listening is 'first love, last rites. Some fantastic tunes (including tasty bass playing). Tidy drumming from pat mastellotto too.
  7. Stunning - someone's going to buy a great bass😜
  8. Relieved to read most of the points raised in the posts above. One thing I keep reminding myself is that when the track was originally recorded, the bass player (let's suppose it's Flea) could play exactly what he wanted in any given bar - after all it's his bass line. Or he's made a mistake but the producer leaves it in because he and the other band members like it. There's us poor souls trying to play it note-for-note 20 years later. I wonder how many original bass players hear their song (bass line) and laugh at the attempts to copy their noodling.😁
  9. Thanks Chris, I'll check that gear out. I've obviously read a lot of separate threads on here about the Tonehammers and Barefaced cabs and I'd bet they'd be a good options.
  10. A lot of the debates here on BC are about sound vs practicality. I've got a Phil Jones Suitcase combo + 4B ext cab which I have been thinking all along was great. Until that is I played through the Ampeg gear - I'm hearing sounds from my bass I've never heard before (in a good way). I'm also pretty sure I'd be praising a big Orange or Mesa rig in the same way. Practically speaking the PJB gear is very portable, a heavy valve head and large cab would be less so. Now to find a portable rig that does what the Ampeg rig can do....
  11. Hi folks, My local rehearsal rooms have been rather forward-thinking and supplied Ampeg SVT3 Pro heads with a Ampeg 2x10 or 4×10 Classic cabs in all the rooms. Beats the usual Ashdowns that's for sure, not that they're too bad. Played the 4x10 rig earlier tonight. What a fantastic rig - would buy the same rig in an instant if I could afford it. Not only is there more than enough heft, I can hear so much more out of my 5-string active bass (sandberg) than I've previously experienced. It's all there, glassy highs, punchy mids and LF rumble - all very adjustable and it sat nicely with the band mix. I can now see why they're held in such high regard. Just saying - bit of a revelation really. Anyone else heard sounds from their bass through someone else's rig that they can't get from their own? Steve
  12. Incredible looking bass
  13. and if anyone knows, this man does...Excellent photos by the way.
  14. A 1969 Jazz is a bit out of my price range.
  15. Ah apologies - I really like the look and sound of the Fender Jazz Elite 4 string with natural finish. Tried one in my local PMT and loved it. Only thing is the prices seem to be increasing every two weeks!
  16. Hi - just an abbreviation for 'special birthday bass - 50 next month.😁
  17. Thanks for the compliments- unfortunately it's almost sold - please see my post above
  18. V. Tasty playing sir and that Limelight sounds awesome 🤩
  19. Thanks Machines - Not really sure, it's a fab bass. I'm only selling it to raise funds for a Special Birthday Bass (SBB)
  20. Cheers - it's a reluctant sale. I can see why the Japanese-made fenders are held in such high regard.
  21. Hi folks, Long-time daily lurker and occasional poster here. Here's my beloved and beautiful Crafted in Japan Fender Jazz Marcus Miller Signature 4-string for sale only (No trades as I'm raising funds for a special birthday bass). It dates to 2004-2005, so is one of the first generation with the separate battery compartment. It's all-original and includes the neck PU cover. There hasn't been one of these up for sale for a while so grab it while you can. I've owned the bass since new alongside a P and Double H and it's fulfilled all the jazz bass-style requirements - great for 'musical' punch and 'honk' when played over the 70s position bridge pick-up and of course slap. The weight is 4.1 kg/9.0 lb I think - I will check that if anyone is interested. The sunburst finish is fantastic. This bass also has a lovely grain to the ash which shows through nicely. As it's around 14 years old, there are a couple of minor dings, which I tried and failed to photograph. There's a slight dint in the rear of the neck and another on the top body bout. Lastly, the scratchplate has a few marks (naturally!) and I've added a bit of foam under the preamp to stop it moving. A soft SKB gig bag is included in the price - The strings are very new Ernie Balls. I'm based in Newcastle upon tyne, and I would prefer to meet in person up to 100 miles from Newcastle to do the deal but I will ship at the buyer's expense.
