1.
1: What they are there for?
To provide basic shielding against hum. It serves the same purpose as copper foil or shielding paint in a "modern" bass.
2: What are they made from?
Brass, as far as I know.
3: Will it improve the tone of my P Bass (fitted with Seymour Duncan SPB-3)
No.
4: Will it still work even though I've got cavity shielding on my P Bass?
No, it serves the same purpose (though arguably not as well) as the shielding.
5: How do you wire it in?
It's just wired to ground (the back of a pot, etc).
6: Where can I get one?
http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/bass_elec.htm
7: Will I still need to wire a ground to the bridge if I fit one of these ground plates?
Yes.
 2. 25-key (2-octave) MIDI keyboard with USB connectivity. It's basically a rebranded version of the MIDITECH i² CONTROL 25. Comes boxed with a USB cable and a driver CD (as far as I remember... it works without drivers on the Mac). Pretty good condition aside from some scratches on the right hand side, which I've tried to highlight below: [s]£40 £30 and it's yours.. or make me an offer. I'd prefer collection in Glasgow, due to the size/weight, but postage could be arranged.[/s] SOLD!
 3.
All I know is there's some clued up fella's who want to make "Mullard" valves and are near enough to going into production with them that the fella I take my amp to told me about em when I mentioned getting hold of some NOS. He reckons they'll be pretty close to the originals otherwise they wouldn't be bothering / he wouldn't know about them. He designs and makes bespoke valve hifis mostly so he knows his valves.
Not quite Mullards, but these are made in Blackburn in the original Mullard factory: http://www.techtubevalves.com/ They're a new design that's a direct drop in for the ECC81/2/3. They're, unsurprisingly, not cheap... but have had pretty good write-ups so far. If you want new production, then I hear the new Tung Sol's are good too.
 4. Are you looking for NOS British tubes or the new (Russian) Mullard reissues? If you're looking for the reissues, then Hotrox or Watford Valves are good places to start. If you're looking for NOS tubes, then you're in for a search... eBay's probably a good place to start (but the chance of getting a dud is probably high).
 5. What can I say... Colin bought some strings from me, sent payment quickly, and generally was a pleasant chap to deal with. Cheers!
 6. Both sold, pending the usual... Edit: Gone, gone, gone.
 7. Brand new and unopened. These are my favourite nickel round-wound strings. I bought them a couple of months ago as spares, but have since switched to flats on my 5-string... so don't really need these. They're £17.50 + pp on Stringbusters, so how about £12 posted? I also have a set that have been on my Precision and have a couple of months of light play on them. Still in fine condition, and I'm sure someone could get a good bit more use out of them. As I said above, they've only been taken off because I've switched to flats. They've been cut for a 34" scale 4+1 headstock setup, so probably won't fit basses with 5-in-a-line tuners. Yours for the price of postage... or I'll throw them in with the above set, if you want them.
 8. Just in case you haven't seen, KevinJazzBass has one for sale: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=63710&hl=
 9. I think the Miller Jazz uses the "pre-CBS" Gotoh reverse wind tuners, so you'll want the BT3: http://store.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?...detail&p=60 The BT1 is designed to replace Music Man and Rick style tuners, while the BT2 is for the "CBS" style Fender tuners. The B10 is designed for the smaller Gotohs that are used on a number of the MIJ Fenders, but not on the Miller Jazz specifically.
 10.
First thing I thought, on the Geddy & Marcus for starters. These are sig models & as such should remain accurate - what's the sense in Fender shutting down their supplier?
Fender also use the Badass II on their latest "Highway One" Precision and Jazz...
 11. You could try the more specialist electronics suppliers: RS, Farnell, Rapid, etc. It might also be worth sending an e-mail to EHX, they might be able to suggest where you can get spares...
 12. Bass Direct: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp.../MONO_Bags.html
 13. CC Music in Glasgow has some in... http://www.ccmusicshop.com/ (They're not on the website though.)
As i said a boring question, when you log on to BC and click down to see who else is here or or whatever my username is almost always the first name, as i would assume it would be because i have logged on in my name. but noticed there was another basschatter before me tonight. not alphabetical, Yawn.. anyway maybe i havent logged out and theirs some kind of creep. hold on, i have no idea what i'm talking about.
Members are listed by "last click", i.e. in the order of when they last loaded a page on the forums. Usually you're the last person (first on the list) since the time between your browser requesting the page and the server working out who the last person to click something is very short. Anyhoo... as you were...
 15. Guitarguitar have a some in stock if you want to try one... but it may be a bit far to travel, since the nearest store is in Newcastle! Might be worth seeing if there's a Basschatter closer with one.
 16. Wow, that looks lush. The figuring on the rosewood board is beautiful and subtle.

 18. For looks... go for it. Looks great with it on. For playability... personally, no. They just get in the way.
 19.
Alain Johannes from Eleven? Wooo. They're supposed to be playing at Reading Festival this weekend. P
That's the one. Not sure if he's on the album or is just touring with them...
 20.
Who's the other poor ugly bugger on guitar that never gets a mention?
I think it's Alain Johannes...
 21. It's simple with an electronic tuner. Especially something accurate like a Peterson. It's slightly harder to do it without a tuner, but if you have a good ear it shouldn't be impossible. I prefer to use the open/12th fret method when using a tuner, but find it easier to do harmonic/12th by ear (since they're the same note). I do it every time I change my strings or adjust the action. It's amazing how much it can be thrown out by little changes things.
 22. I would suggest either phoning the church or going there in person. You're much more likely to get a response that way, since they're obviously a bit lax about checking/replying to e-mails. It might be worth getting in touch with your mate's dad as well, since he'll presumably know who at the church you should speak to.
 23. Hey! 1) Yes, as long as you don't mind me taking up residence. 2) Generally high quality instruments that you can't get in other shops. Guitarguitar has some nice stuff in these days (Sadowsky Metros & Lakland Skylines) and CC has Sandbergs but there's no where you can try anything else of similar/higher quality (Shuker, ACG, MTD, Dingwall, etc). Most shops only have the mass market brands (Fenders, Warwicks, and the like). Similarly, it's hard to try out decent bass amplification, since most places only stock Ampeg, Trace, Ashdown and Eden if you're lucky. It'd be nice to see Barefaced gear, Dr Bass, Bergantino, Thunderfunk, MarkBass, Genz Benz, etc. Look at the sort of stuff that Bass Direct and the Bass Merchant have, similar to that would be excellent. Also, strings. Nowhere stocks good strings. If I could buy TIs and DRs in person I would. 3) Definitely in the shop, since it's nice to be able to try stuff out... plus I'm in Glasgow. 4) Depends on the year, but it's been over the £1k mark in the last year. Probably going to be significantly more in the next one (damn GAS). 5) Yeah.
