1. Brand new and unopened. These are my favourite nickel round-wound strings. I bought them a couple of months ago as spares, but have since switched to flats on my 5-string... so don't really need these. They're £17.50 + pp on Stringbusters, so how about £12 posted? I also have a set that have been on my Precision and have a couple of months of light play on them. Still in fine condition, and I'm sure someone could get a good bit more use out of them. As I said above, they've only been taken off because I've switched to flats. They've been cut for a 34" scale 4+1 headstock setup, so probably won't fit basses with 5-in-a-line tuners. Yours for the price of postage... or I'll throw them in with the above set, if you want them.
2. Just in case you haven't seen, KevinJazzBass has one for sale: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=63710&hl=
3. I think the Miller Jazz uses the "pre-CBS" Gotoh reverse wind tuners, so you'll want the BT3: http://store.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?...detail&p=60 The BT1 is designed to replace Music Man and Rick style tuners, while the BT2 is for the "CBS" style Fender tuners. The B10 is designed for the smaller Gotohs that are used on a number of the MIJ Fenders, but not on the Miller Jazz specifically.
4.
First thing I thought, on the Geddy & Marcus for starters. These are sig models & as such should remain accurate - what's the sense in Fender shutting down their supplier?
Fender also use the Badass II on their latest "Highway One" Precision and Jazz...
5. You could try the more specialist electronics suppliers: RS, Farnell, Rapid, etc. It might also be worth sending an e-mail to EHX, they might be able to suggest where you can get spares...

7. CC Music in Glasgow has some in... http://www.ccmusicshop.com/ (They're not on the website though.)
As i said a boring question, when you log on to BC and click down to see who else is here or or whatever my username is almost always the first name, as i would assume it would be because i have logged on in my name. but noticed there was another basschatter before me tonight. not alphabetical, Yawn.. anyway maybe i havent logged out and theirs some kind of creep. hold on, i have no idea what i'm talking about.
Members are listed by "last click", i.e. in the order of when they last loaded a page on the forums. Usually you're the last person (first on the list) since the time between your browser requesting the page and the server working out who the last person to click something is very short. However, occasionally, someone else might load a page between your browser requesting a page and the server getting around to processing it, in which case someone else might appear before you on the list. Anyhoo... as you were...
9. Shuker?
10. Guitarguitar have a some in stock if you want to try one... but it may be a bit far to travel, since the nearest store is in Newcastle! Might be worth seeing if there's a Basschatter closer with one.
11. Wow, that looks lush. The figuring on the rosewood board is beautiful and subtle.
12. For looks... go for it. Looks great with it on. For playability... personally, no. They just get in the way.
13.
Alain Johannes from Eleven? Wooo. They're supposed to be playing at Reading Festival this weekend. P
That's the one. Not sure if he's on the album or is just touring with them...
14.
Who's the other poor ugly bugger on guitar that never gets a mention?
I think it's Alain Johannes...
15. It's simple with an electronic tuner. Especially something accurate like a Peterson. It's slightly harder to do it without a tuner, but if you have a good ear it shouldn't be impossible. I prefer to use the open/12th fret method when using a tuner, but find it easier to do harmonic/12th by ear (since they're the same note). I do it every time I change my strings or adjust the action. It's amazing how much it can be thrown out by little changes things.
16. I would suggest either phoning the church or going there in person. You're much more likely to get a response that way, since they're obviously a bit lax about checking/replying to e-mails. It might be worth getting in touch with your mate's dad as well, since he'll presumably know who at the church you should speak to.
17. Hey! 1) Yes, as long as you don't mind me taking up residence. 2) Generally high quality instruments that you can't get in other shops. Guitarguitar has some nice stuff in these days (Sadowsky Metros & Lakland Skylines) and CC has Sandbergs but there's no where you can try anything else of similar/higher quality (Shuker, ACG, MTD, Dingwall, etc). Most shops only have the mass market brands (Fenders, Warwicks, and the like). Similarly, it's hard to try out decent bass amplification, since most places only stock Ampeg, Trace, Ashdown and Eden if you're lucky. It'd be nice to see Barefaced gear, Dr Bass, Bergantino, Thunderfunk, MarkBass, Genz Benz, etc. Look at the sort of stuff that Bass Direct and the Bass Merchant have, similar to that would be excellent. Also, strings. Nowhere stocks good strings. If I could buy TIs and DRs in person I would. 3) Definitely in the shop, since it's nice to be able to try stuff out... plus I'm in Glasgow. 4) Depends on the year, but it's been over the £1k mark in the last year. Probably going to be significantly more in the next one (damn GAS). 5) Yeah.
18. GooGone is pretty good for removing sticky residues...
19. You might want to also look at Wizard Pickups: http://www.wizardpickups.co.uk/shop.asp?ca...sub=Jazz%20Bass They're hand made in the UK and pretty highly regarded... and come in cheaper than the higher up SDs (especially the antiquity ones) or Fenders. Bit of a bargain to be honest. You can even get pickups custom wound to your specs for a little more cash.
20. Not used the bass one, but my brother has the guitar version and it's perfectly adequate for day to day use. I wouldn't take it on a plane, but for chucking in the back of the car it's fine...
21. Obligatory "flatwounds!!! they last for ever and just get better with age" post
22.
I seem to remember a couple of their cabs being reviewed in Bass Player a few years ago . They picked up on the switch issue (the technicals are a bit beyond me , and I defer to Bill and Alex on this) and Accugroove's reply was a bit snotty . Haven't Epifani come up with a similar silly switch recently ?
Their cabs have dual coils in the speakers, so they can actually be switched from 4Ω to 8Ω. The benefits of such and ability, aside from as a marketing ploy, are minimal though...
23.
Here`s what a (hopefully!) genuine cij serial number looks like. Jez
That looks correct, though I've also seen them with the CIJ text above the serial number...
24.
It doesn't say CIJ or MIJ on the bass, in fact it doesn't mention the country of origin. I do, however, have the original Japanese certificate of purchase (guarantee) and so it does appear as you said that it was not an export model, rather one that's worked its way out of Japan via the second hand route. Thanks all for your assistance, think I can rest easy now
Hmm, that sounds strange. As far as I know, all Japanese Fenders have it... Pics?
25. Japanese Fenders have their serial number as a transfer on the heel of the neck – so that sounds right. Does it say "Crafted in Japan" or "Made in Japan" beside the serial number? If it's a CIJ then the serial number seems OK for 2002. Don't believe what it says on Fender's list of serial numbers – I have a 2004 CIJ Precision that has a serial number that's Q + 6-digits, whereas the site says that it should be 5-digits. I'm not sure whether this is just a mistake on Fender's site, or whether there's a difference between export and non-export Japanese instruments. I guess that it's possible that export instruments have 5-digit serial numbers and Fender only takes account of this (since you technically shouldn't be able to get non-export instruments outside of Japan). The Guitar Dater Project lists your serial number as 1999-2002. So I think you're OK Edit: Of course, some photos would help for any visual clues...
