1. Here's a rare beast! Price reduced to £500 Fender Japan 70's reissue Precision. This is the one with the US pickup. It's currently sporting a rather wonderful Kent Armstrong Vintage P pickup which can stay on it if you don't want to quibble about the price. It's a CIJ from 2000 in Capri Orange. The usual exceptional build quality you get from Japanese Fenders. Weight is a comfortable midge over 8.5lbs. I am not sure why but this one has a slab fingerboard when I would have expected it to be the 'veneer' type. The neck dimensions are more akin to a '62 bass but the headstock logo is definitely 70's. My other 70s reissues all have the veneer type of fingerboard so maybe this was some kind of special order I don't know. I imported it from Ishibashi a few years ago. I am happy to travel within reason and can parcel it up if necessary (for a suitable adjustment to the price). Feel free to ask any questions you may have. 2. I suspect landlords like paying out cash because, in some instances, they have a budget from their brewery and can account for that allowance while having no record of how much was actually paid out.
3.
How about a nice, hand-wound P-bass pup? I've used pups from Jess Loureiro. They're a bargain and sound good to my ears. I'd record you something but a certain cab maker has borrowed them and not sent them back. http://jlguitars.eu/...oduct&id_lang=4
They must be sitting on them!
4.
A company re-visiting a policy is one thing , but when a customer is obviously genuine and spends £5K when dropping the basses off in the first place , it should surely show £30 worth of goodwill !
This. I would be particularly galled to note the charge has only be levied twice in 10 years and I had been chosen despite a not inconsiderable purchase.
5. The nut looks quite narrow in the pictures. Can you tell me the width at the nut please? I sense a Capri Orange Precision becoming available!
6.
Fearsome indeed! The listing for North Sea Jazz was also under Jon Cleary, but Manchester has them billed as a quartet, so I suppose they're all tagging along.
Could be just him and the guitarist!
7. Simply amazing amps. I had one for a good few years and only sold it as it wasn't being used (I kept the Bass 400 because I've had it since new).
8. Great band indeed. Used to play Mo Hippa regularly. Fearsome grooves.
9.
Possibly stretching it to call it a hit but I'm sure it did chart... "Is This The Life" by the Cardiacs has the most demented piece of guitar I've ever heard
There's always Canyons Of Your Mind by the Bonzo Dog Doodah Band. There's demented!!
10. True enough (another Cartoon Hero, I see - Rob is one talented chap isn't he?). With which designer did you discuss any of the other items in your signature? I'm not knocking BF (although it looks like it) but the designer is also the principal salesman. I suspect that the OP is after opinions which are more 'independent'. I did use two BF Compacts for a while but found I preferred the Boogie 1x15s. Another chum has two BF 1x12s and they are great sounding cabs too. What about a trip to Bass Direct? Could be that all those choices are there, under one roof and the owner there has a reputation for blunt assessment.
11. I recently witnesed a a/b between the Berg and the Vanderkley. Both sounded great but I have also heard the Berg at a decent number of gigs (a good mate has one). It's an awesome cab. The Vanderkley was pretty close in sound (but it was a nice red colour!!). Is there any reason you seem to favour a 2x10 Vanderkley and a 2x12 BF or is that just a 'for instance' thing?
12. In fairness, Andy Baxter's price includes £225 of VAT and the cost of any work he had to do to it. Anyway, I suspect the price will be negotiable.
13. Not quite in the same league but I was playing at a festival where the BBC were filming. You can see from my signature than I'm a fairly traditional type when it comes to gear. The previous band finish and we stroll on to get a sound together and check tuning and I am confronted with this Peavey digital set up. The previous guy played upright and didn't use the rig so I had to power it up. It launched into the type of light display you see on car stereos at Halfords and I didn't have a clue what anything did. I was DI'd from the bass and so I noted I was getting some noise at least and so I just stuck with it but you can see on the broadcast that I was like a rabbit caught in headlights!
14. Ha! That's for girls. You want my old Boogie Road Ready 2x18 at 107 kilos.
15. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/307432-now-l400-shipped-classic-50s-p-bass-fiesta-red-nitro/ There you go.
16. Very. I have been fighting the temptation. If my Aerodyne had gone by now I would be playing it!
17. I almost hightailed it right there after reading the original post but caught myself thinking 'but I don't even like Jazz basses' and so didn't. I was thinking I was possibly missing out on a bit of a deal but it would seem not.
18. Go for it definitely. As for the bass parts, it's not all the same notes. If you don't know their stuff, listen to Shanana. Ok, they were a little 'comic' but listen to the instruments behind the vocals. Of course, you could also watch Tutti Frutti on DVD.
19. That's ok. If it's a Pbass you're after then I would recommend an A/E - a semi-acoustic Precision with an additional piezo in the bridge.
20. I'm stunned. It's actually 8.5lbs. I expected it to be less.
21. I'll check. I would have thought so nut I will make sure and report back.
22. Three Little Birds done as a shuffle and Heard It On The X done as a funk version. Both went down really well and you could almost hear the points at which each was recognised.
