1.
there's a lot of lucre in the nostalgia game.
Which is why pub bands that play all the songs we love to hate, often badly (you know the ones), fill dance floors every week.
 2. Given the Motown name check, LaBellas would be my first port of call. Other folk have mentioned that the tension is quite high, but I've never noticed any difference between them and my usual Elixir or D'Addario rounds (45, 55, 80, 100). http://www.labella.com/products/760fl/
 3. Hiwatt T40 head. Not sure of the price, but seems to fit the criteria sound wise http://www.robchapman.tv/forum/threads/hiwatt-t40-combo-first-impressions.31024/
 4.
I got a lovely email from Paul at Wal yesterday evening regarding the review in this months BGM. Despite a couple of inaccuracies in the review the overall vibe was positive and If Paul's happy so am I... he did make it afterall, I just ordered it!
The inaccuracies are not the best advert for the mag and details are surely easily checked before print, but the fact that they liked your Wal must give you a nice warm glow. However, as a review, I found it a bit cursory, more details in the sound and playability department definitely required.
 5.
Yes, that was a good one. I also liked the instrumental theme from OHMSS -- some damned fine music on that film's soundtrack.
Those soaring John Barry string arrangements always give me goosebumps.
 6.
I thought the RTB mix sounds quite good! Can't wait for the album/DVD.
Agreed. Other than the rhythm guitar needing to be a little higher in the mix, I didn't think that was too sloppy. Great bass tone.
 7. Voted. Bilbo got my vote this month, I really liked the John Martyn meets Pat Metheny with Danny Thompson on bass vibe.
 8. I liked Chris Cornell's Remember My Name for Casino Royale.
 9. Time for a pic I feel,
 10.
Richard Thompson chose to play (IMO) the weakest song from his new album, strange thing to do, hopefully he'll be a bit more exciting on Friday!
Agreed. I found that most disappointing, maybe, as you say, the extended Friday show will have better stuff. As for the rest, I pretty much fast forwarded through it all.
 11.
I'm still all over mine like a rash. Here's a some snippets of a few songs from a gig with my fun covers band at the weekend. SHOCK: I'm using rounds. And BIGGER SHOCK: Sometimes a pick.
Sounding really good both with and without the pick.
 12. Lovely guitars that punch way above their price point.
 13.
Now then, now then!
Can you tell what it is yet?
 14.
£2K for a decent acoustic is probably quite reasonable. If it's handmade there'll be an awful lot of time and skill gone into it.
And compared to classical instruments that's a drop in the ocean, their 'quality' stuff is insanely expensive
 15.
I'd be interested to hear it... it's not quite P bass position is it. Have you played one with the pickup in that position?
No I haven't, but it looks similar to a Stingray's position.
 16.
The pickup looks to be in a bit of an odd place... I think if I was to have a single pickup Wal I'd want it in the proper bridge position like the later pro series second from right.
That's part of what attracts me to it.
 17.
Just a little shot of my modest collection... HA! YEAH, I WISH!!!!! This was from a "Wal Fest" gathering in 2006 in Woking... some fine instruments in that collection. Spot the double necked midi bass and the Pro IIE on which Too Shy was recorded!
I'd love the fretless on the chair in the back row.
 18. I went to try out a couple of Gretschs at Guitar Guitar today. Didn't really like the Electromatic centre block 5620, but the 5420 was very nice and right up my street. For 'due diligence' I tried an Epiphone Wildkat which was OK (lovely P90s, tonally at least), certainly nicer than the 5620 and under half the price. One of the guys there (Epsom) suggested the Epiphone Swingster. Wow! What a great guitar. The pickups are a bit naff to look at, but they sound really good, I prefer them to the Gretsch Blacktops and acoustically it was much louder and richer than the 5420 (the Epi had trestle bars and no sound post) and the Bigsby was way more responsive. I reckon one of those might be coming home to Ez Towers in the not too distant future.
 19. I never liked that body shape and Jack plug arrangement on a guitar, but as a bass it really works; who knew? Ibanez obviously. Crazy price too. Nice score.
 20. Electronic version, but I've seen it in the shops too.
 21.
Any Subscribers had the September Issue yet, I've not seen mine and wonder if it's out yet?
Yeah, it's got an article/interview with Mark King amongst others.
 22. I adore your build, finish and repair threads. Looking forward to this.
 23. He certainly has the vocal sound of MJ, but, to my ears, the backing is turgid electronica; no soul or funk. But this is what makes music interesting, in fact all art, just because one person finds it not to their liking, there will be plenty who do. However, I will never understand an unmade bed or a shark in formaldehyde.
 24. Our band use the Mackie/iPad combo and it's really good. Memorising levels and EQ for different venues, plus the ability to walk out FOH and mix from there if the PA is stage based. Tablet failure? Well anything can fail I guess, including a normal mixer, power amp, whatever, you just hope it doesn't.
 25.
Pump It Up by Elvis Costello & The Attractions.
Good call, I used to love playing that in my last band, that and Town Called Malice were both so much fun to play on my P bass. Currently I'm really liking Babooshka, Owner of a Lonely Heart, Died in Your Arms Tonight, in fact there aren't many songs in our set that I don't look forward to playing.
