  1. My Bangkok association was certainly nothing to do with the Far East as may have been deduced, it was meant to be a play on words for the activity The Vapours’ song refers implies. Dali’s Car... Rock Lobster - The B52s (from Dali’s lobster telephone).
  2. I just acquired a Dunlop Primetone 1.3, semi round. Nice tone, not unlike a Jazz 3, but more stable and grippy. This might just become my go to, bass pick.
  3. The Mustang is getting a lot of NBD love recently it seems. The JMJ has a very similar depth to the Vintera. ‘50s reissue Ps certainly seem to be on the chunky side, my old ‘50s Roadworn was certainly a chubster. I became used to the body size very quickly and the neck isn’t unlike my Maruszczyks (a little chubbier perhaps). Enjoy your NSSBD.
  4. Same with my new JMJ. I’m so tempted to attack the lower cutaway and corner of the heel joint with a rasp (I won’t). No shielding on the JMJ either, not that it’s especially noisy, but I’ll probably add some copper tape at some juncture, especially as this seems like a great bass for recording. I’ve been playing it a lot with a pick (too much watching Bobby Vega and Cody Wright videos) and it sounds great, especially as palm muting is a doddle. The JMJ comes with Fender flats, which seem to fit the whole Mustang vibe nicely (medium scale strings seem to be the recommended length for any replacement strings). Because of the lack of overtones, it takes modulation effects really well, even low, open strings through an octaver track well. Enjoy your new acquisition. EDIT - Similar weight too.
  5. Welcome to the fold of the low end. Great bunch of folk here, who are always happy to offer helpful advice - about anything (the diverse expertise is amazing).
  6. Ah, the old, “I was lead astray, m’lud,” excuse, also known as the, ‘a big boy did it and ran away’ ploy. I’m liking your style, Sir. Plenty of ‘helpful’ folk here to feed your GAS.
  7. Whistlin' Past the Graveyard - Screamin' Jay Hawkins
  8. Davy’s On The Road Again - Manfred Mann
  9. What a great bunch of guys we have here, they’re so giving with their knowledge.
  10. Yes they did make valid points and acoustic and solid bodied instruments are different things. But, as I’ve already stated, the thread is circling. Gah! I’ve just circled around my own post 🤣.
  11. Cool, as was the other one that I cropped and cloned out. I do have a picture of mine (it’s almost identical) but it’s not really usable. PS. I hope you don’t mind.
  12. You are not wrong. However, check how many times versions of the above statement have been repeated in one form or another and also the opposing view, it’s become a more mature version of “IS!” “ISN’T!”. This thread is now just chasing its own tail.
  13. Grandad - Clive Dunn (I’m so very, very sorry 😞)
  14. C’mon, this thread stopped being fun a while back, now it’s heading towards spiteful. I note the emoji indicating jest and that’s exactly the kind of thing I would say. However, there have been a few, seemingly innocent, threads lately that have descended to the murky, levels of political and religious threads. Lockdown has brought our the worst characteristics of the keyboard warrior and it’d be a shame for BC folk to take a huge dislike to others or even the forum itself and certainly before new admin guidelines ask us to avoid politics, religion and tonewood 🤣.
  15. Surely this thread is done now? There are two camps here, ‘wood makes a difference on solid bodied instruments’ and ‘wood doesn’t make an appreciable difference on solid bodied instruments’. No one is changing their mind and some folk are getting bent out of shape. Let’s agree to disagree and get on with some actual bass playing. Rant over.
  16. These are hardly beginner lines, but I think we’ve moved on since the thread was started. A breakdown of Bakithi’s playing on Graceland...
  17. One of the greatest guitar solos ever.^^^ Roxanne - The Police
