The Swan in Crawley last night. Smaller than usual crowd as another pub was hosting a charity do in memory of a local muso who passed away last year. But an enthusiastic bunch and at midnight when we all just wanted to clear up and go home they still wanted a couple more numbers. Home after one, back at my church for a pre service rehearsal at 9 this morning - not at my best to be honest. Used my new to me Rafferty HPF last night, it’s all very subtle to my clumsy ears but a definite tightening up of the low end.

My experience as well. I had an RM 500 for a while but stuck with my MB.

Bought my Ashdown ABM combo and a cab there in 1999. An outstanding place. Nowhere like it anymore.

Bought a HPF from Karl. We had a few challenges with delivery completely outside of his control but he could not have been more helpful. Pedal arrived packed brilliantly and as described.

I was fairly ambivalent about straplocks until my son asked if he could borrow my (new to me) Status that had just arrived to play in Church. I watched in horror as it fell off the strap as he put it on, the look on his face was particularly entertaining. Fortunately it was in a school sports hall with a bouncy floor covering so no damage done but straplocks went on the next day.

I wasn’t insulted, it’s an interesting debate. I was merely pointing out my own experience.

Not true of my Status and Fender active basses with a Shure wireless system.

Very sensible suggestions. All ok on the fan front and a year or so ago I got rid of all the dust and assorted crud that had built up inside and around it.

So I decided to get the new MB Little Mark 58R 500w head. Bass Direct have them their website but not in stock so promised to try and track one down. Meantime Gear4Music showed 2 in stock so I paid my money and they accepted my order. Today they reverted to me and said they didn’t actually have any in the UK but they could send one from Sweden if I paid the extra postage. I cancelled my order. On reflection decided to give the current combo a second chance as, if I think likely it just got too hot, there is no need to splash the cash (yet!). Then of course Bass Direct come back to me and say they could get me one………

I believe on reflection this is exactly what happened to my MB combo at the weekend - running hard in a hot room, near a hot radiator, insufficient air flow around. All fine now but (another) lessoned learnt after 45 years of playing!

I just use Hotwires by Status.

Sounds a great rig and BF just down the road from me, I should go see them.

Thanks. Was thinking about a bit of cabling adjustment to the combo to turn that into a cab only solution, plus the existing NY121 with a head on top. Will look at the TC amp. But just plugged an old Ashdown MAG head and my old ABM 110 combo - they still sound magnificent but heavy!

Exactly what happened. I plugged my backup Elf into the NY121 and played on. Not enough headroom but it coped admirably and I doubt a single punter noticed.

As I mentioned on another thread, my MB CMD12P let me down during a gig last night. I'm sure it was an overheating issue as its fine this morning but last night, running loud at 4 ohms with an extension cab, tight against a wall and next to a thermonuclear radiator it cut out a couple of times before shutting down completely. It has served me well, its an Italian one I bought s/h 10 years ago (from Channel 4 news Krishnan Guru-Murthy as it happens). But I can't now trust it so will relegate it to a rehearsal space or maybe leave down at our church. But what to replace it with? I'm left with a MB NY121 cab so need a head and another cab or a single cab and head solution and sell the NY? I know about the new MB range but I'm wondering about TC or another class D brand. Or do I revert to old school and pick up a s/h Ashdown ABM. I know I need to get to a store and try some (GAK and Andertons are on the list) but would welcome thoughts on gear that is working well for you and which doesn't break the bank to buy either new or s/h. Cheers.

Halfway through the second set of our gig last night my MB amp died. I was able to grab my Elf and hook it up to a single 1x12 cab without too much drama and used it for the rest of the night. We are a loud band and I had the master vol full up but it sounded awesome. There was no head room but I was able to keep the pre amp from clipping and I got through the rest of the set. It was very hot at the end, not sure it’s sensible to run it that hard for long but it dug me out of a big hole and sounded excellent as well. If TE did a 500w version I’d be at the front of the queue.

Somewhat different, a side effect of my cancer treatment is that the fingers on my right hand feel like the skin has been burnt. I played today, felt very uncomfortable.

I was a part of the song selection panel for Spring Harvest around that time, my reward was a copy of that wire bound book each year!

All sounds very promising. Looking forward to receiving the bass.

I am about to be in the privileged position of being gifted a bass, a custom built Feline based on a 57 P. It’s a maker I am not overly familiar with - any other Feline basses out there?
