  1. Also from Sussex, welcome.
  2. On a previous incarnation of my board I made up this. The 2 gang socket sat alongside the pedals attached with Velcro and a couple of cable ties.
  3. Played at a pub in Brighton last night, short set of original material. Really well organised evening, PA and back line provided. Bass amp was a small Ampeg which was very snarly and a bit underpowered but lovely being able to turn up with just my bass. The band on before us were very impressive, all younger than my kids 😬 After our set a punter came over and said it was good to see us still playing “at our age”. I’m not 60 for another few months!
  4. I always take a spare bass in case of an emergency. Just pre pandemic a string went mid number, only trouble was I had left the spare bass in the car as the stage area was so small - cue me running across the road to grab it.
  5. I had a problem with an Ashdown ABM cab which sounded exactly like a blown driver to my ears, turns out it was the baffle not fitted properly, that went back to the retailer for a refund.
  6. I’m no expert but that sounds more like an amp or speaker cable issue than a cab problem. Have you tried the usual things, different cable, mains lead etc? I’m sure someone who really knows what they are talking about will be along in a moment.
  7. Starting to think it might be fine during warmer months but best to keep it indoors during the colder ones. Thanks for thoughts.
  8. Not that cold! And above freezing.
  9. I'm considering storing my MB combo in my garage to save lugging it up and down stairs for rehearsals / gigs - I've an Ashdown I can use in my music room for practice. Just a bit concerned about temperatures though. The garage is detached, a sealed concrete floor and has previously had rockwall insulation behind plasterboard and an insulated ceiling fitted. It is dry but it does get cold. Is that likely to be an issue for amp or speaker?
  10. I recall hearing on a podcast a while back that a player like Marcus Miller doesn’t get the majority of his work because of his brilliant chops but because he turns up on time, is nice to people and plays only the notes the song demands.
  11. Mine is paired with a Status bass - it's such a subjective thing getting the sound. I've used MB for 13 years - might just be my ears were getting bored. You'll find it a super bit of kit.
  12. Yes. Also have the NY121. Superb set up and the combo easily loud enough on it’s own in most situations I have found myself. I’m in the process of switching to Ashdown in search of something a little warmer sounding.
  13. I use an ABM Neo 112. First test with it at gig level volume is Saturday. I had two of the same cab but returned one as it the build quality was poor and it rattled. I’m holding off buying another at the moment. Will be interesting to see how it copes.
  14. Very pleased with how things sounded tonight with the sansamp, it really is a fantastic bit of kit.
  15. I’ve a sansamp so may give that a try as well.
  16. Boxy is exactly the way I’d describe it but agree it feels like something that can be sorted with some intelligent use of the eq.
  17. I’m still getting used to mine, it’s the 500. The notched volume seems to work well for me. I’m running it through a 1x12 ABM Neo cab and still not quite happy with the sound in rehearsal but think maybe I’m just messing about with the eq too much, going to leave it all flat this week and make any tweaks on the bass. Enjoying the warmer sound in contrast to my Markbass gear. First gig with it next weekend.
  18. Should add I don’t think I’ve ever been described as anything other than a player who digs in quite hard!
  19. I’m quite enjoying the one knob compressor on the Ashdown RM500 when I’m playing around at home but whenever I’ve used compression live I struggle with what feels to me like an unacceptable loss of the ability to control the dynamics of my playing myself.
  20. Credit UPS. I paid for the 3 days plus delivery as no rush my end, dropped it off at my local shop yesterday morning and it was with Ashdown before 9am today.
  21. Interestingly UPS have come up cheaper going direct that via P2G, £25, much more reasonable. Thanks!
  22. Did wonder that and it’s a good idea.
  23. How competitive do people find using P2G as a comparison site for shipping? I’ve used them before for small bits and pieces but have to return a cab to Ashdown (long story) who recommended using them but the price I’m getting is at best £43 for 3+ days delivery insured which seems excessive. The response from Ashdown is that I should be able to get a much cheaper price than that. Apart from the weight and size which are what they are for a cab, even a lightweight one, the only variables are speed of delivery and insurance or not. Am I alone in thinking £43 is excessive or am I Scrooge mode?
  24. I think that is the right thing to do. I fear we may be tempted to allow congregation to take masks off when singing - surely the most ridiculous thing to allow at present.
  25. Question…..we have our carols service this Sunday evening, rehearsing tonight. What are your churches doing re mask wearing for musicians (I assume wear all the time), singers (wear other than when singing), audience / congregation masks on all the time? It’s provoked a bit of a debate. Bass content - using my new to me Ashdown RM500 and a 1x12 ABM Neo cab for the first time for this.
